This watch design has been real world tested down to 500m by the Italian military.
I have the 8203 version I purchased in the mid 90's and the latest 8204 version. The best dive watch for the money ever made. I own Rolex's and Omega Dive Watches and I'm proud to have this Citizen watch sit beside them. The robustness of this Citizen is amazing. I reckon in a tough test, the Citizen would match the Swiss watches any day of the week.
When did the switch, I just bought a used one with 8203 on the dial but it has second hacking.

This was my military watch and I did a lot of divers courses. All with the simple citizen. It’s a great reliable watch. Actually the ultimate field/dive watch. Put a nice canvas strap on it and it won’t give you troubles. Ever.
I always liked these better than the seiko skx personally.
Accuracy according to Citizen: non hacking calibre 8203 minus 10 to plus 20 seconds a day, hacking calibre 8204 comes with minus 20 to plus 40 seconds a day. Personal experience with two watches with 8204 calibre when worn 24/7 is that they are about 5 to 10 seconds fast a day, depending an amount of activity. Just my personal experience, be aware of this.

The BIGGEST difference between them is that the Citizen is still an ISO rated 'Divers Watch', the Seiko no longer meets that individual watch has been tested to 25% over the stated water resistance rating?
My NY0040-17, is far better than the equivalently priced Seiko in quality and performance, I just love the 'Pro-master air tank' case, it's just amazing!
Recently i bought a Ny0086 Coke with the 8204 inside (and 8203 on the dial) for my Collection. It became my everyday beater really fast.
Unique design, accurate, perfect size, with rubber straps perfect fit and with a double domed sapphire perfect look.
Currently my favorite watch.
PS: Bezel is perfectly aligned on my NY0086 (but i like the bezel design on the NY0040 better)
Best watch for the price. Have two of them. So easy to wear as daily beater. No alignment problems.

I have bought this exact version almost 2 years ago, it's been a keeper in my collection and the only diver i have. Wear anywhere go anywhere type of watch. And very solid movement of Citizen which must be a standart.
Mineral crystal = less glare and reflections. Sapphire crystals are ridiculously reflective, even with ar coating
And not the best when it comes to shatter resistant

I have several watches with AR coated sapphire crystals and I can't complain about the legibility at all. On the contrary, sometimes you wonder if there is a crystal in there at all.
And I have Seikos with single domed mineral glass that reflect as fuck. But i love them :-)
Both, mineral and sapphire, have their advantages, mineral glass doesn't break as quickly as sapphire (which is better under water) and is cheaper to replace.
Lolol I was just looking at mine while watching this and noticed 2 things, the bezel insert is different on the new ones slightly (the triangle specifically) and the crown guards are unsymmetrical 🤷♂️😂 I love this damn watch so much, I got a well running one at +1-+4 seconds on the time grapher unopened 8204 movement I just got it 2 month ago. My cheapest yet some how favorite watch

I have a NY0086 Pepsi fugu with the 8204 movement that I recently purchased. It’s an amazing watch and love it. My bezel lines up perfectly.
Citizen should never give up this line, just keep refining it. Better movements, sapphire, etc. The NY0040 line is King in the entry level automatic ISO divers.

Citizen did just that. It's now a 44mm iteration. Looking forward to buy the NY0140-80E It's sapphire glass and 8204 caliber. And there are the even newer versions, called the fugu line.
I already owned a citizen a wad of more expensive Seikos and Citizens before I discovered this beauty and it’s a little sickening as it’s so bloody good I wish I’d went with it first. But that’s the joys of being watch fanatics I suppose.

@@CardScapeGame Definitely, it is about how lucky you are but Citizen has less allignment problems comparing to Seiko. Seiko with 1000 usd Willard has allignment problems, this is a 230 usd watch and very understandable.
Just received this in coke bezel version yesterday. This is my first Citizen watch.
I noticed something that I don't see you are experiencing in the video - change the week date wheel smoothly. Mine gives strong resistant when the week wheel turn half way. I need to very forcefully turn the ctiwn to change it. However, if I stop forcing the turn and reverse the crown when the resistance starts, the wheel date will change to the next day.
So I just turn crown half way and reverse the crown turning continously to keep changing the week day.
Quirky and something I don't experience in ETA, Seiko, Orient mechanical watches. Neither do other quartz like Alba, Casio.
Congratulations with your new watch! Is it the movement Miyota 8204? Maybe good to check with your Citizen dealer?

I have the BNO 150 black version.
It came on the rubber/polyurethane strap.
Wore it for a month and just didn't like it.
I ordered a stainless steel oyster bracelet from Long Island Watch ( BRAC 35 ).
They make two versions specifically for citizen Promasters.
Been wearing it for a month and really love it, life is good.

I have two myself. Bezels are great. 8204 is a nice movement too just “loud”. If the crystal seems to be a real deal breaker you can get a clear cover like what we put on our iPhones or other screws to prevent cracking and scratching. I’m actually in my second for my black NY040 as I smashed it on a door handle and the initial crystal protector did it’s job. Oh and yes I dive too but I I feel daily life in a rushed environment to always seem to cause more damage to watches so don’t downplay yourself as a “desk diver”…. It’s still keeping it real with a capable watch! Best!!!

I just got mine today my second watch( after my red casioak) it's a very amazing even though it doesn't hack.
Fantastic and affordable watch. If yours doesn’t hack then it has the movement Miyota 8203. The newer Miyota 8204 does hack.
Fun fact: When Citizen got the contract with Italian navy they didn't test the watch for depths over 200m( rumor is that even 200m was never tested by Citizen before the contract),they just erase on the dial 200m and put 500m beacuse Italians wanted the watch with 500m capabilities for submarine purposes.Officers,crew of submarines wore this watch daily in operational depths of 300m without any malfunction,after that with word of mouth among navy NY0040 became the iconic watch!
It's an iso certified watch, it has been tested.
Selten so einen Schwachsinn gelesen, jeder Taucher schüttelt da nur mit dem Kopf. In einem Uboot ,egal welche Tiefe herrscht immer normaler ( leicht erhöhter) Druck. Millitärtaucher mit Sauerstoffkreislaufgerät maximal 6 Meter. Mit Pressluft ist bei 70 Meter Schluss und Trimextaucher wo es tiefer geht, hat das Militär nicht, weil sinnlos. Jetzt hast was gelernt und postest hoffentlich keinen Unsinn mehr! Übrigens sämtliche Uhren von Seiko werden in Druckkammern überprüft!

The Italian nave bought a bunch of watches, upgraded them with different o-rings and other stuff, then sent the watches back to citizen and Citizen scratched away the dial text to print on it “Marina militare” and “500M”
I just paid 185 usd for my citizen and it came with the metal bracelet.the seiko 5 sells for 165 usd.

Thank you sir. I looked on Amazon Netherlands. The new movement is the 8204 I believe. The old one 8203. Each have pro and cons.
Promaster is my favorite diver,i got the pespsi with 8204 movt and the green titanium but be carefull because on the titanium version you have to change the spring bar if you want to wear it on a nato strap, you need curved spring bar because there is not enough space between the case and the lugs ;)

I have an SKX007 and a Kamasu and would like to add a Citizen diver to complete a set. Lovely watch but try as I might on this model at least, I cannot unsee the underpants at the 12 o'clock position but as a beater it should be fine

@@Ferien7 It’s an observation high listed in many of the reviews I’ve watched. Having pondered it I’ve since ordered this as it’s a fine watch and I consider it a quirk of the watch which if anything adds something to it. You’ll enjoy it when it arrives.

@@OscarOSullivan I think citizen is following Seiko’s lead because they’re learning they don’t have to spend money on qc because the market will still buy up their watches anyway just like seiko fans do seiko watches. 🤦🏻♂️
Does this version with caliber 8204 comes with the yellow bottle as a box?
The one I got from Amazon came in a very simple black paper box without the yellow bottle.
A misaligned bezel would drive me crazy I have OCD really bad!! It really ruins things for me because I notice every out of place detail ☹️

Thank you! The Omega I have is the new Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M. For a small wrist the Citizen or Seko Skx013 wears better.

I think so!
Ifca watch says something like "divers 200m" then it is normally an iso watch. If it says "wr 200m" or similar then it normally is not a dive watch an example being Orient Mako/Ray which are diver style sports watches.
You should get 37 mm and eco drive.

Hello, nice and detailed video! Just one thing: I've recently bought the same watch, with 8204 movement, but I've noticed a little discrepancy. The movement number stamped over the dial is still the 8203. That is a kind of annoying. What about yours, are you noticing the same thing? Thank you very much and keep up with the great work!
I don’t think they updated the dial when they switched. The case back would show 8204.

Just want to check if anyone ny0040 has this strange issue.I found my watch day stopped at the other language at the time 8pm or am which when I turn would reverse the day from english to the other language instead of the other way and would only change at 8pm or am.After I turned my day to change it the issue stopped.

@JohnDoe-zo2xo Only thing I can think about is maybe something went wrong with the date changing. Never change the date when the hands are in a certain position. I always move the hands to 6:30 AM (precisely) and then date change. That way nothing can go wrong with the movement. There are videos on UA-cam explaining this issue further 👌🏻

I just purchased the same watch and getting this itchy rash on the part of the strap just below the lugs. Argh..
Probably better to replace the original strap by something different like a real rubber strap, leather or NATO.

Bezel alignment concerns on a 200 dollar watch, get over it, it's just a beater. If it was on your SMP I would understand.
I agree to a point. If none of the hour and minute/seconds markers align, then you have a real problem
I consider a cheap digital Casio a beater. Not a $200 watch.
What i dont like about the orient watches is that they're made in china. chinese watch = no value.
That's why im going in for CITIZEN.
Orient is japanese
This Citizen is also assembled in China using the 8204 movement which is made in Japan.
