How long does it take for the clot and swelling in the leg to get better once on blood thinners?? I’m only a couple of weeks in and was hoping to be able to go back to work soon, but at present I can’t walk very far at all and my job is an eight hour a day cleaning job on my feet, so can’t go back till I can walk around properly again x

Good video you made here. I just got a DVT in February. On Eliquis now, but wondering what caused the clot to happen. I do sprain my ankles a lot and one even locks in the sprain position cause I've sprained it so much.
I guess I need to go see a podiatrist for possible answers.
I'm active, use orthotics, on many meds for other health reasons. A lot to think about in this video 👍

I'm confused eat more greens? I had a blood clot some twenty years ago in my right arm it swelled up so bad it looked like a hot dog. I was told to reduce my intake of greens due to the high vitamin K in plants that promote blood to clot so what is the wisdom behind eating more greens?

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  2 роки тому +4

High vitamin K and increased coagulability/being on warfarin/blood thinners is a very specific scenario that can be impacted by vitamin K. The point that I was trying to make here was more that being healthy, losing weight overall is probably the single most important thing that can be done for the average person. Now your situation is extremely specific and general advice might not apply to high vitamin K levels.

    • @craigjohnson3603
      @craigjohnson3603 10 місяців тому

Warfarin was invented over 50 years ago for killing rats and mice. That is affected by vitamin k (green vegetables) the newer thinners are not and don't require regular blood tests but are much more expensive (Eliquis-& Xarelto) I had PE and am on them for life and can eat lots of greens without weighing them as if I was taking Warfarin.

Wonderful video just too late for my husband.......he lost part of his foot and all his toes this would have been preventable if his Family Dr had sent him sooner he only complained to him for 3 years so this is totally avoidable......it was a blockage in his groin......and his calf muscle was so painful where he could not walk and still he would not send him to Emergency.... seems he did not meet the chart numbers for claudation....

  • @akiyajapan

Is it possible that the damage and clot could be caused by overdoing calf raises?
Also, I'm dealing with renal cancer and suffering from edema and anemia. I had a blood clot in my left leg and was hospitalized a year ago. Spent nearly two months recovering before I could be released. Couldn't walk or even bathe myself for many days. Hemoglobin was down to almost 5. Crazy.

I went on Gotu Kola and Nattokinase to help . 3 months it went away. flow restored. 2 months later, now it's back, exercising drinking fluids walking , lifting, calf manipulation help but it's not al all like my "just fine right leg". Developed during covid. Dont know what to do about it. I think it might be in conjunction with venous insufficiency, Compression sock helps a bit but not a lot. Not sure if its a DVT.

Hi from the UK, I developed a clot nye, had an knee operation in November and the docs reackon it came from that. I'm 7 weeks on and my calf is still swollen and feels really heavy. I was prescribed apaxiban which took the cramp sensation away after 2 weeks. Is it normal for my calf to still be swollen almost 2 months on? My foot also goes purple when I stand up but returns to it's normal colour when I elevate the leg. The docs in the UK don't seem to care anymore and I keep getting told I just have to wait. Any info would be appreciated. Regards Danny

Question: I've been out of the hospital for almost a year after my leg clot almost shut me down. I still have leg discoloration in that left leg, primarily around the ankle and all over my foot, which looks like I moonlight as a street fighter. There's a little discoloration in my right foot as well but not nearly as bad.
Are you saying that I shouldn't use a massager at this point? I do wear compression socks every day, despite being tired of doing so. However, they do help as long as I'm not wearing them all the time. Just for a portion of the day. How can I get my leg and blood flow improved and eliminate this discoloration?

Can you feel a clot. I had surgery and enveloped sepsis. I later developed abscesses in my abscesses. I had knits in my upper thighs. Both sides. 2 on one side disappeared. One is still there in other leg. Occasionally it gets red and sore but not painful when I walk or sit. I'm 53, don't smoke, took blood thinner injections after for a cycle or two. I don't have pain when walking and 99% of time it's not red or sore. it's upper left thigh and hard to the touch. Should I have it checked. It seems surface level and about the size of a quarter. I think it may be a fatty tumor?

Very informative and well explained video 🌿 Another enlightening video from this amazing channel! Thank you so much Doctor, for discussing Blood Clots. As someone who's dealt with clotting issues, I can't emphasize enough how beneficial Planet Ayurveda's supplements have been in promoting healthy circulation. Sharing this with my uncle who's also concerned about blood clot risks. Let's prioritize vascular health!

@Carmella L I had colon cancer surgery removal. Put on blood thinners for 30 days. Then christmas had a pulmonary embolism in lungs,a clot,, symptoms included swollen foot and leg, heart rate was going too and from as low as 42, to 160 to 200 beats per minute. They say it's from the cancer I had, mainly surgery. It went from my leg to lungs. Now on thinners the rest of my life

All my circulation and DVT/ thrombophlebitis/ lypodermato sclerosis problems are I'm afraid totally self inflicted through injecting heroin for 38yrs eventually using both femoral veins at Groin access, the left leg went first and is the most damaged, the skin changes on my shins/calf and foot on the left foot are like crocodile skin, literally great 5mm wide 5- 7mm deep cravasses up to 150mm in length, the foot and ankle movement is greatly reduced and so is the toe movement, they are numb most of the time unless I'm having a bad time as infections and ulcers are common and hard to avoid as the rough skin is so hard to keep clean and I only need some blood and dirt in a cravass and three days later its infected and swollen the it starts the pain, like putting your legs in a fire for fun, I wear full length class 3 compression hose and have done since around the end of the 90s but as you say they can be painful, I get tested with the doppler pulse test and most times it palpable, I think my legs would make a great anti drug poster and may stop someone else doing something stupid like I did! You probably have plenty ex junkies to study but if youd be interested in some pics I could oblige, I'm not angling for pro bono treatment cos I'm in the UK anyhoo n wouldnt dare fly long haul with my probs. Very interested in your video and listening intently to your advice, thank you so much Doc 😎👍🖖

Hi Paul, sorry it wasn't more specific. I can try to give my unofficial advice here. Generally, I always work with a vascular specialist, and we put our patients on semi-long-term medications for anti-coagulation. Generally, for future activity, compression socks and exercise are considered safe by most vascular specialists (but officially, there is no test confirming what is safe or not with a clot). It really does become a waiting game until the clot resorbs. As I mentioned in the video, the primary goal would be to cut down any possible causes or risk factors for these clots. We wish you the best of luck and recovery.

@@DrTomBiernacki Sir, I HATE my vein and other related diseases, but I LOVE, YOU! AND, this CHANNEL!
YOURE AWESOME FOR ALWAYS REPLYING TO EVERYONE, AND TRYING TO HELP!!
      ITS NOT YOU.
      ITS HIM.
THIS PERSON IS FRUSTRATED WITH THE SHITUATION HES IN, THE DISEASE. HES PROJECTING THAT OUT ONTO YOU.
      I KNOW.
      IVE ALSO BEEN THAT PERSON.
      AND, TBH, ILL OWN IT....
      SOMETIMES, I STILL AM!
It's frustrating af, being ill and a patient seeking proper care, in this medical system here in the U.S.
Good Drs are hard to find.
When you DO find one, they're overloaded with patients and an enormous work load. We, the, desperate sick & suffering, often get lost in the shuffle.
      Left behind. I know.
      I am, that patient.
This video is a wealth of great info. Just not what this person was searching for. Thus, the projection that followed. Don't take it personally. But just understand, we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. It wears on us. We get a lil bit cranky, sometimes.
      Hell, I'll admit...
I get downright bitchy! 😂But I've learned how important it is, to practice the pause.(Pause, before you react to ppl and/or shituations, that trigger one to wanna lash out.
      We're just suffering.
Desperate for help, and answers. And straight up fact, pain makes us miserable. We get crabby.
And that's ok. It is what it is. But it's not ok, to take out our misery on undeserving others.
We slip. Admittedly, I still do. It's rare, but I do.
      Practice the pause.
A valuable skill to learn and work on/at.
We're all only but human beings, after all.
But, telling ya, from first hand experience, we the diseased, have to struggle to not lash out, sometimes.
      Pain, sickness, changes a person.
      Being human is difficult.
And being one in a broken, pain riddled meatsuit??
      Sometimes, dude....
      Overwhelming.
      We're warriors!
      Forgive us! 🙏
      Appreciate you, sir.
      I DO.
I'd come to you for help, knowing I'm in good hands.
      BUT, distance, insurance, yadda yadda....
You know how it goes.God bless you and thank you, for all you do.
