My husband of 52 years just like 52 and a half years just died about a month ago this is one of our favorite songs and I thank you for the song then thank you so much
My parents are celebrating 54 years together today, and this is their song. When I wanna see how true love should be, I just look at them.....Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad! I love you both so much..
I sang this song at my mother's wedding. She was ill and didn't have much time left. It was the most difficult and important performance of my live. What a beautiful song.
How many country artist who is a great singer, song writer, and a world class guitarist? I admire Vince as a real artist who went after quality music rather than money.
I feel so sorry for the ones who lost their mates my Wife is my best friend in the WORLD!. I pray for her everyday she has several health issues that could take her life... This is so good,John hughey is gone what a steel player he was!....
mom & dad were married for almost 64 years before dad passed in may of 2010. i was less than one month shy of being 55. i miss my dad real bad.mom is in bad health at age 83.this song truly describes them.vinces voice is GOD given & i think he honors that. i'm glad to be able to enjoy his singing. tradition & roots are always important in music.
One of the most truly beautiful love songs. It is my sister's favorite...she is getting ready for her 50th. We used it at our mother's funeral because it just fit. . Vince is so awesome.
I feel in love at 14 with my dashing army Captain but circumstances prevented us from getting together later on whenI was older and we had to go our seperate ways. Now many years later he has found me and we find ourselves still so very much in love, I thank God every day for this very special love which I know will last till eternity and beyond. Thank you for posting this beautiful song it tells our life story.
Let's not forget John Hughey's UN precedented "back-up" rendition on this classic of Vince Gil. For John is considered to be one of THE greatest steel guitar players to have ever graced its strings. May Jesus rest his dear soul. A friend and mentor.
When I was a young boy, about 10 years old and just learning to play steel guitar, my dad took me to our local state fair to see Conway Twitty. Playing the steel in his band, was John Hughey, and when he played the intro to the song "Last Date", I was mesmerized, and have been, ever since. One of steel guitar's all time heroes for sure. God bless you, Johnny!!!!
This is, and will be, a classic forever because it means something to everyone who has ever been in love .........and John Hughey, he embraced the feelings of the lyrics to exquisite perfection, its the kind of steel playing that sends a tear down your face.
Its just great when there are as many Steel guitar fans in the audience as there are for the guy in front... both perfection at what they do....imho Same thing happend with Charlie and Lloyd at panther hall recording....magic moments in music.........
Man, when this son opens with that steel guitar there is no question what kind of song this is going to be. Amazing work by the late great John Hughey.. No one can make a steel guitar weep so well!!
Had this song at our 40th Anniversary!! Love this song so much and I cried walking down the aisle to renew, even after forty years!! Will ALWAYS LOVE YOU MY DRLING"!!
Vince has that voice that sings love, I have everything he has ever done, dance with my husband of 42yrs, he is 61 I am 58 to vince every chance I get...and so good looking. It makes my days better just to hear my husband sing along with Vince and look at me with I will love you all my life...Thank you Vince...

And that right there boys and girls is one of the finest examples of what REAL country music should sound like. Had the pleasure of seeing Vince Gill many times with John Hughey and each time never disappointed.
I could listen to this over and over just to hear John Hughey on the steel. I truly don't believe you will ever hear a crowd clap after a pedal steel solo ever again. Good chance that the crowd are traditional country fans.
We chose this wonderful song to be played as the first dance at our a Golden Wedding celebrations. It made our night as all our friends and relatives joined in so the DJ played it a second time. So memorable. So amazing, and I fell in love all over again with my wonderful husband as Vince sang.
This song is the first thing I heard after our wedding vows. It has been 29 years we have been together and married 11 this year and this song was the perfect song for us when we got married and we are still happily married and heading to the 30 year mark. With many many more years to come.
How can anyone listen to Vince Gill, and not fall in love, with his gorgeous voice!? One of the only male artists, ever, that has made the hair stand up, on back of my neck! Damn, he’s that good!! He is such a good looking guy, too! Seriously, has it all!! Love it xxx
Im 33 and grew up on traditional country like ferlin husky and Faron Young. Im very proud to have lived through the last of a real generation of country music like Vince Gill. Im afarid weve lost the real deal over the past 20 years. There are a few young artists that still play traditional country buy sadly it doesnt fit in todays radio.
Vince Gill is simply phenomenal. A complete package. But oh, John Hughey… one of the nicest, kindest men I ever had the chance to meet and work with. In a world of superb steel masters, he’ll always be my favorite. What a loss.
Yip I agree 💯 and all they trollers with the 👎 are just tone 👂deaf idiots that probly had problems learning to the there shoe laces never mind tune a normal six string guitar .god bless John 🙏👍👏👏👏🏴🥃
@@calebrebold4837 I started playing P Steel in about 1981 and by the time I got good enough to play for bands barely ANY DEMAND!,I just couldn't believe they wanted electric keyboard over the steel,But they did!.
A truly beautiful song and performance by Vince Gill. John Hughey's steel guitar really contributed to this song in a BIG way. Notice the professional stage presence of each of the musicians? No bouncing or turning around or flipping their hair.
I could never get enough of listening to the master of steel guitar, John Hughey. There's never been one better and most probably never will. John had such a natural talent for the instrument that no matter what he played it was always so "natural" coming out of his steel. Not only the smoothest there's ever been but also the most prolific. He and Vince made quite a team. Vince is another one who can never be replaced. RIP John Hughey and Vince you continue to go get 'em.
Great Song! My band use to do this song when we played out. Luckily we had a steel player! I loved singing this song. Love the steel work in this song! And love the way Vince sings it! True traditional country music here folks! No distortion guitars, rock drums, etc... To those of you that posted loosing your loved one, I am sure this song means a lot to you, and god bless you!
Thank you so much for this beautiful song. I was a 15 yr and my boyfriend 23yrs just commissioned in the army, we fell madly in love and for reasons beyond our control were seperated. We have just found each other again and are still very much in love as if the inbetween years did'nt even happen. It is so very sepcial and I thank God for bringing him back to me.
+Oparacletos Could not agree more. Love to watch him with the Time Jumpers. Paul Franklin is great but, sorry, he cant match Papa John in my humble opinion
Here it is 2024 and I still listen to this man right here Vince Gill who is one of my favorite country singers still listening to him always will Love You Vince Gill and your music
Vince had a beautiful song here & John was one of the best watched John on Country music hall of fame & he talk about playing with Vince How he thought so much of Vince
One of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard, & I dont belive any one could do it as good as Vince & company. I lost my Wife a year ago, 01-01 2011, we were married a little over 50 yrs. She was 16 & I was 19 in 1960,Im 70 now. If you wanted to see what true love could be, look at us.
My wife and I were both just diagnosed with lung cancer. Married 53 years, and she's still pretty as a picture, and I'm still crazy over her. Listen to this song 10 times a day.
Such a beautiful song -- and true love was the picture of my mom and dad sitting and holding hands in their rocking chairs. He passed in April 2005 - she followed in July -- she could not live without him. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March 2005 though --- 70 years and 9 kids later..........they still loved each other......... Thanks for a beautiful song....sorry for rambling on.
I love this song. The story behind it, and the lyrics. This is what I wanted with Carrie, True as true love could be. I lost her though. I miss you Baby Bear.
Vince is a tremendous talent and an awesome person, as well. He's a class act, always recognizes others around him and is generous with praise/recognition. What's not to love about Vince Gill?
John Hughey was one of the most sought after steel players in the country. He so craftily plays the ultimate steel solo and the key change on the turnaround just sends chills up my spine. He is missed. Vince personally called John to get him to play on the session in which "Look at Us" was recorded. That lead to 12 years of performing with Vince. Both men are class acts..
Love is the power between two persons.. love is giving ..blessed are those who gets pure love and be faithful to each other...they understand each one's heart and support each other
I was very lucky to do a recording session with John one time. Didn't pay a lot, and I was surprised that John immediately said yes when I asked him. I miss him every day. I was just listening to that album we did, that's what got me on the kick to come listen to this. It is one thing to listen to the recordings, but to be able to watch him on the videos, it just takes me back to when you could walk into the bars on lower Broadway and there he was...we were the lucky ones.
steel guitars are the main reason i love country music. sadly there isnt enough fiddles and steels in todays country.i fell in love with steels in church as a youngster pastors son bought a lap steel and i soon grew to love that sound.got to see vince and john in columbus,oh at the state fair with patty loveless what a performance that was
My grandmother passed away in July, also 1997.. One of my favorite memories of her is dancing to this song at my grandparents 50th... May your wife rest in peace...
It's a shame that I came so late to the appreciation of Country and those who toiled to make it beautiful and great at the same time. John Hughey went unnoticed, as to credit for what I really enjoyed. Now that he's gone, I know who it is that made this piece really "cry". RIP John and thanks.
In the style of John Hughey they still say. I heard Pete Drake on Early Conway records. As good of a steel player to ever sit down at one. They to a person have their own style. This is classic Hughey. One of the masters has gone home. RIP John.
In 2020 my husband and I celebrated our 60th anniversary. I lost him in 2022. This was always our song and is still special to me.
When a steel rips your heart out of you chest, it's called perfection. Todays country can't hold a candle to the music.
Always Love Vince voice. This is pure country 🎼🎼❤️

The tone he was getting out of that guitar was gorgeous. RIP John Hughey. You were one of the best. You inspire me to be a better steel player.
John Hughey went down in history as the best steel guitar player!!! Conway's career too!!!

Great lyrics great music. Add to that Vinces exquisite voice and John Hugheys masterful steel guitar. It all adds up to a great record.

I have a picture of John playing steel in my dads studio. Getting to sit and listen to him play in a recording session was amazing.
Gorgeous eyes and voice! Elegance in the Country Music. No wonder I love his songs, voice, and guitar, as much as classical music.
