I never heard ANYONE play steel like Paul Franklin, especially those sustained chord glissandos in which he continually manipulates the pedals to extend an idea. It is like one note is slid upward while the remainder of the chord remains the same - genius! I have never heard any steel player sound like he is circular-breathing before.
Thank you for that. My grandma was his teacher on peddle steel. Started out with Hawaiian with her. Everytime I hear him play it reminds me of her. Brings tears to my eyes. She was my rock and gave me the gift of music. I have her Gibson that she played with him and that i grew up playing.
That Gibson that Vince plays. Yeah I have the same one just in a different color. Given to me by Wanda Bruening, Pails Hawaiian teacher. Damn I miss that woman.
exactly- gave me chills
GREATEST INSTRUMENT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH- PERIOD
exactly ...coolest instrument ever
I ran across this video during dinner and I had to stop eating because Paul’s steel playing literally made me cry it’s so beautiful.
Thank you. He was my grandmothers student. The steel you hear is her style all the way. I listen to this all the time so that I can still hear her play. This is exactly how her and I used to play it every Sunday for more than 20 years.
This is without a doubt some of the very best steel guitar playing that I have ever heard!!!
Paul Franklin..the very best...........
I love that man!
What taste! What soul! The best steel guitar solo I've ever heard on this song!
This would make Buck Owens very proud!
All that I can say is "if every note has to sound like the one before it; then noone will ever appreciate Paul Franklin". The steel break is one of the best ever; AND, I would bet that John Hughey or any other steeler would be proud to hear it. I know that us 'letric guitar lead players will appreciate it as well. Great job on the entire song, Paul.
Paul Franklin was originally start playing steel guitar here in michigan. My grandma Wanda Bruening was his first instructor. And everytime I hear him play I hear her. Her method of teaching still rings clear. And actually paul has used her teachings to him in all of his steel lessons
Always amazing Paul!!! It was magic for us playing with the
Time Jumpers!
Crying in your beer pedal steel, doesn't get any better than this!
Vince Gill one of the best singer in country music. Love his music. The band was
excellent,That steel guitar is awesome..
This vid is probably Paul's best improvisation of the solo out of all that I've heard on You Tube........very soulful and tasty note choicing.
Have you heard Alan Jackson's song "THIS TIME"?
@@zainalak7901 No. I'm talking about all of the versions of his solo on this song here on youtube.
Wow...just wow, the combination of Gill and Franklin is country heaven sent, the rest of the band are awesome too, we are blessed to have these people among us...sad Dawn is no longer around.
To those who think the steelplayer is off: he's putting some jazz in it in a most original and sophisticated way. Look at Vince smiling during the solo.
Those who are saying that are idiots.first off, Vince Gill will not I repeat will not waste his time playing with someone who is not top dog material. And 2nd, One of the best steel players in the world, playing will not be off. Bet on that.
Anyone who thinks Paul was “off” at any point doesn’t understand music let alone pedal steel.
Paul Franklin is absolutely one of the best pedal steel players alive. He knocked it out of the park that night, if you ask me.
Thank you he was a student of my grandmother
Right. Steel player is on point.
Voice like honey, melting my heart.❤️ Great song, talented musicians!
Pauls one of the best at the Petal Still
Paul Franklin makes me want to take my steel guitars, amps and gear and sell them and never pretend I know how to play ever again in my damned life. As much as I love Tom and his classic break on this song, this is unbelievable stuff... I couldn't look away from 1:42 through the end of that passage.
Gorgeous arpeggio at 2:31.
Nicholas Dedring I know EXACTLY how you feel, but evidently you have great taste in music so don't ever quit. I'm a big fan of Ralph Mooney and I'll bet you are too.
That's how I felt when I left my amp onstage for Randy Reinhardt (rip) when we opened for Johnny Rodriguez. That amp has never sounded that good for me lol.
that is good country music.......
What a great song. Thanks for the video. This song was still going really BIG when I returned from Viet Nam...... So -- it has a special meaning -- and now married over 50 years.......
Best steel work I have heard in years.
You cant get much better than Vince. I have
More of his records than anybodys.
Franklin, what else can I say.
He's the best Country Singer and Guitar player ever !!!! Love to hear you sing this song !!!!
So love love love pedal steel!
i love vice gill and every song he sings...he is the best singer and a very handsome man.
Just AWESOME steel guitar playing!
This is a better version than what is on Bakersfield -- Paul is so much stronger .
I totally agree
Love Buck Owens, Love Vince Gill, Thanks Vince for singing some great country when its not popular to do so Buck would be proud
George Strait & Allen Jackson- Murder on music row, the best illustration of what happened to our true beloved country music!
Love that steel guitar
Well, I had always thought the my favorite steel break was in Alan Jackon's Farewell Party, followed by the ride at the end of Dire Strait's Walk of Life and the break in David Peterson's You're Too Easy to Remember. Wait a minute, Paul played all of those. That break in that version of Together Again is my new favorite. Way to go Paul!!
the song "This Time" alan jakson is also good plus the sound of the banjo
Wow, wow, wow. Love this song and I have seen many videos of it, which are all good, but Paul is absolutely amazing on the steel on this! Thanks y'all for playing real Country!
Paul Franklin OMG unbelievable perfection!
AwwwVince is having a good time, rock on Vince , your Awesome, enjoyed this clip & you.
That's some awesome steel guitar playing, superb!
Vince is still the BEST! I never get tired of listening to his voice and guitar playing!
2:31 descending slide made vince smile. Awesome
Franklin and Gill are two of the best ever!
Steel guitar's what is missing in today's Country Music! Buck Owens would be proud of this version of his number 1 hit! :-)
There is a hell of a lot more missing than just the steel guitar.....They can't sing on pitch, songs suck, no nice melody, no 3/4 time, and a TOTAL ABSENCE OF ANY REAL COUNTRY SOUND WHAT SO EVER......
Incredible! How in the world! That steel is pure heaven.
It's a case where the musicians on the stage don't get in each other's way..If you got nothing to say musically, in the song don't cover the other guy's line(s)..The Steel Guitar says it all.. Ain't that nice.. ??
Not much doubt about why Paul Franklin Jr. has made such a name for himself, not only among steel guitarists, but everywhere in Nashville. Boy did some practicing when he was a kid...........
This man is country. Who gonna fill their shoes. No one in the so called country world today. That's sad, so sad.
The pedal steel guitar... what happened to that beautiful sound ? And the sound of fiddles and those Fender Telecaster Guitars ??......I might be old style but that is what classic country is all about ..Today’s so called country a pure disgrace
I can't. This video is so beautiful, singing is so sweet, by one of the heats, Vince and Paul on the steel guitar is a mathmatical genius! I can't handle it but weep! Bring back this music! Much love! Too good! So heavy, but pure Joy!
If 2:18,don't put chills on your spine, you need to turn your dial to Taylor Swift, or Miley Cyrus.
Nothing will ever be better than these 2 guys together again
Awesome --- Paul F and Vince G --- what a partnership --- hope I live long enough to see what majic they can produce --- P F is without a doubt the best steeler ever .
paul franklin. damn.
"Together Again" brings out steel guitar at it's best!
The chord that "Ranger" Doug Green pulls off on that steel guitar at 2:32.. is GOLDEN!
I think it a G6/9, but they way he slides into it is amazing... even Vince smiles at it!!
SirGigalot941 IF that were Ranger Doug that would be true. But, since it's Paul Franklin and NOT Ranger Doug, it's still a great solo. Doug doesn't play steel guitar. But he strums a mean hollow body and yodels to beat the band.
VINCE PURE COUNTRY HE CAN BING TEARS TO YOUR EYES HIM ANDPAUL SOUND BEAUTIFUL ON THIS OLDIE
I just got a pedal steel... steep learning curve..people dont realize that both feet, knees, hands involved not to mention the cognitive requirements..just a beautiful instrument ..thanks for this beautiful sounding video...love and tolerance
Paul gives all he has for Vince. Incredible to hear and watch.
I would love to hear Vince sing some blues. ❤️
So beautiful song..yes its so nice to be together again and be happy as perfect family..nice..
What an amazing combination. Vince Gill's vocal and guitar playing and Paul Franklin's steel guitar. Incredible. Could listen to this forever.
This is exactly why Paul Franklin Jr. does all those sessions. He knows how to 'bend 'em' baby..........
Super Steel Here Hot as you can Get Thanks
Paul you are tearing my heart out with that steel!
Thru all the years of great music and superb musicians, no on can be considered "THE BEST" at any particular instrument regardless of the genre. Though I want to say that Paul Franklin is "THE BEST" steel player ever, I can certainly assure you that NO ONE is better!
That's Music Mr Franklin! Wow. Oh yea that singers pretty good too. Saw Paul at Guitartown this year and last in semi loose jamming sets with Brent Mason and John Jourgenson etc and he sounded well....perfect.
Now this is really county music not like the shit you hear this days
I love this (Vince's hat is a little silly, but his voice makes up for it many times over) ... pedal steel is stellar and the fiddler is awesome!
GREAT STEEL!!!!!
The solo of his life right here !
Is that real? WOW !!! Paul is #2.....#1 is GOD
One of the greatest voices ever in country music. I wish he would have stood up and sang through something other than a ‘58, but hey anyone can be a critic, there’s only one Vince Gill.
Oh how I miss that good 'ol' country music.... thanks for the share ..love Vince's new cd "Bakersfield'!
PF is a killer steel player!!!!!!!!
Awesome version of a great song👍
Paul Franklin..No.1..is best..
Oh the memories this brings. My first love.
took me back to the old days with that one! thanks for that awesome reminder!
Here's 3 new 2013 CD (from Texas) with great Steel Guitar playing - Amber Digby 'The World You're Living In' (with Lloyd Green & Dicky Overbey) - Miss Lesley 'Lucky' (with 'Cowboy' Eddie Long) and Darrell McCall 'Country From The Heart' - with Randy Reinhard & Jim Loessberg. AND then of course there's the brand new CD with Vince Gill & PAUL FRANKLIN 'Bakersfield'. Just look out for the REAL COUNTRY CD's!
Nic , u r right --- absolutely brilliant touch , tone , feel and expression --- never tire of listening to this version --- much better than the CD .
BEYOND
Awesome!
Amazing rendition. @Pat Dee, I'm not sure what you're listening to, but both Paul & Vince put their own spin on this classic. Hardly overdone. Thanks for posting!!!
Paul Franklin is DA MAN!
J....s Franklin squeezes the last drop out of that song.Great
5.55 pm may 18,24 love you Bince Gill is there a true webb rage for your fans so I don’t get mexed up with these fake Bince hills that’s all out there I would love to have a chat or messing place to go on to message u sometimes thanks
thats some awesome pickin and singing....masters at work
I believe you are being narrow minded about music. Here Franklin uses complex chords that are pleasantly dissonant, tasteful and well placed. Hughey and others are great players, but Franklin takes steel to a new level; a level brought on by experimentation by Emmons and others.
love this
Paul Franklin is the best steel guitar player ever
Sportsmaven He's certainly one of the best. Steel guitar starts at Buddy Emmons and trickles down from there. Paul and Mike Johnson today are probably the cream of the crop.
About 2 1/2 minutes in is about the coolest thing ive ever heard
This is the first version of Paul’s together again solo I learned. He plays it different everytime he plays it but has a basic template he uses
Paul Franklin plays with great Tom Brumley feel.... 😎
Wow Mr.Franklin rules !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like em!!! WA WA WA all you guitar experts.Go give a big kiss to your girl tonight and don't worry about who played what.
THIS MAN IS SO TALENTED..... SINGER,SONGWRITER AND INSTRUMENTALIST!!I I AM IN AWE OF VINCE....... VERY HUMBLE ,VERY CONFIDENT,VERY THOUGHTFUL IN EVERY WAY.I LOVE IT WHEN HE AND PATTY LOVELACE PERFORM TOGETHER! SPARKY
No one can play steel better than Paul Franklin
Freddie Hart sang this better than Buck. The steel Guitar sounds more like Freddie Harts style than Buck Owens.
This is a killer song!
How about that lick at 2:30
Technically it is wrong -- dis-chordant --- he is super-imposing an Ab7th chord over a G7th [ dominant 7th ] --- but that [ in the hands of great musicians ] is where the pressure to " resolve " makes us feel and hear the emotions that people like Paul are capable of creating -- a great musician !
And it made Vince smile. Technicality doesn't exist in the hands of a great musician, because they are playing above it.
@@mikey123422I'm so very late to this party, but I just need to say something. There is no 'right' or 'wrong ' with guys of this caliber. Not even technically. If he played it that way, he did it on purpose and knew he could make it work. In this instance, the purpose was to evoke a strong feeling of knowing a perfect resolution was just around the corner. Using unconventional chord voicings is something Paul Franklin has mastered. We are taught the rules of music when we are first learning. But we eventually find that most (if not all, for some) of those rules were guidelines at best. If you can make it work, you've done it right. You can just feel it resolving. I like feeling the music. Paul makes one feel things at a previously unknown depth.
He's the best of the best love that man music😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Great song love Vince singing it
WOW! Love you guys. Please come to Belfast.Amazing talent. We would die to hear y'all. The McLernon family Lisburn N.irelandxxx

Paul es increíble... imposible mejorarlo.
