from 4:45 to 4:57 absolutely KILLS me, its such a good sequence to go with the beginning of iris's champion theme - alder's various changes in expression were edited super well, but what really gets me is N punching him bc before hes revealed to be the first in the I Beat That Old Man Trio (him, hilda and iris) it looks like he just decided iris was his little sister and he was going to secure her victory out of brotherly affection/obligation

I think that's what the music is supposed to be conveying. If I recall correctly that route is the one that leads to the elite four I think. It's supposed to make you think about the journey that you took to get to that point.
Gen 1-2 music: We are limited to 4 sound channels, but we can still make a nice melody. Gen 3 music: We have lots of trumpets that sound dynamic and diverse in a way. Gen 4 music: We have lots of calm sounding pianos and flutes, except in important battles. Gen 5 music: *now it's time to get funky*
@@QKanoni and guzma's theme. And gym leader's themes in sword and shield, scarlet and violet. I meant "successfully". Although guzma's theme is kinda cool
I love how it takes cues from genres of music that where popularized in new york too. The attention to detail in these games is stunning. Gen 5 is to gen 8 what a quasar is to a candle.
gen 1 and 2 were chiptune, gen 3 and 4 were the trumpet-not-trumpet, 5 was the orchestra ,6 was the violins, 7 was the percussion and eight is the bASS

I love the game since it was my childhood basically as thats the only thing i played and my dumbass tried to beat the elite 4 with just a lvl 44 simisage
Gen 5 was my first ever pokemon game, from back when I thought using only my emboar against the elite 4 was a valid strategy, and I will defend this game RELIGIOUSLY.
I saw Emmet and Ingo for the first time since playing Pokemon Arceus and had to pause and yell "Why do 2D Sprites have more character than 3D Character Models?"
Gen 5 definitely had more soul than other games. The music, the game plot, and a lot more made it one of, if not the best generation of Pokémon games ever.
Gen 5 was my first Pokémon game I ever beat, and I can't describe the joy I feel revisiting the games, their soundtracks, their story, their animations, everything.
I’ve replayed the game countless times ever since it was my first ever Pokémon game back in 2014 or 15ish, but only like last year did i beat Alder for the first time. I was probably in tears.
Me too it was also my very first Pokemon game as well. Gen5 will always be my favorite for rest of my life. the story, characters and especially the music will always be in my memory. If it weren't for this game I would never be interested in Pokemon
This is the best Pokémon generation by a mile, and there is no argument that can tell me otherwise. The music and story alone sends chills down your spine and can bring tears to your eyes. By far my favorite generation. If only we had more like this…
Gamefreak: Puts effort into game and tries new things with a tough rival Community: This game sucks Gamefreak: Stops putting effort into trying new things and gives us a friendly rival Community: This game sucks Gamefreak: *Visible Confusion*
Hot take: Iris is my favorite champion and has best champion theme. She was treated with so much respect in the games and you literally fight on rainbow road Gen 5 never deserved the hate it got. And now it, just like Iris in the games, is treated with so much respect. I’m happy I never let go of my first. Gen 5ers, rise up!
I grew up playing Gen 2, 3 and 4. I assumed my experience with Gen 5 is gonna be similar to previous generations. I went in it blind, not reading any reviews or opinions about the game, and after finishing the game, it felt like a very unique experience to me, something that I really wanted from a Pokemon game, I loved almost everything about it, the music, the animated sprites (mfw Typhlosion Archeops amd Scizor look badass in animated sprites but bland as fuck in 3d models), the story, the graphics (Say whatever you want but the jump from Gen 4 to 5 was massive, almost feeling like a different hardware as Gen 5 really pushed the limitations of the DS), it just felt like an amazing world to me, and then BW2 surpassed that, with a solid sequel to a great game. After that I looked into the reviews and the fandom's impression about Gen 5, and I was shocked. At the time people called it the worst generation just because of 2 bad Pokemon which snowballed into people disregarding the entire dex as bad and cuz it tried to do something unique. I always wondered why Gen 5 was hated so much, it was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had, and probably the best DS experience. Johto still might feel like home to me, Hoenn might be nostalgic to me, Sinnoh might be the point which really got me into the franchise, but Gen 5 has to be the best experience I have had with Pokemon.
exact same here, holy shit. yeah with gen 5 being shit on when it first came out due to it literally over being vanilluxe's and trubbish's design... fuck, looking back on it makes me kind of sad because id LOVE to get a remake in the swsh art style one day in the future but i dont know if gf will ever consider gen 5 again... but theyve been listening to the community and seeing how majority of us actually ADORE gen 5 in recent years... it could happen, hopefully :(
YES i love the philosophical logic found in the game like the city found in the post game side that is either a natural city made of trees and such or a futuristic world (depending on which game you are playing) representing the truthful nature and the ideal future paralleling the two beliefs that split the original dragon into 3 those being a world of truth and a world of ideals. Then theres N's development with him criticizing you for fighting using your pokemon but in the end realizing in order to create the world he believes in he must fight. With after beating him he dramatically leaves realizing that maybe pokemon are happy fighting with there trainers that they car so much for. Then in the sequel he reappears aiding you in several place until ultimately giving you reshiram or zekrom for you to fight the antagonist
To be honest I loved trubbish, garboder and the vanillux evolution line. The game added 150 new Pokémon and there’s not one I dislike, there’s some I don’t care for but they’re not bad. In my opinion I think the haters of gen 5 were the minority with most never even playing the games and just jumping on the band wagon like lemmings.
Couldn't agree more, played emerald, fire red, platinum, SoulSilver but gen 5 really hit different. The change from static models to moving pixel art was so cool, the pokemon had actual personality in the way they moved and aesthetically it's still the best pokemon has ever looked imo (sword and shield still use those bland X&Y models), the pokedex has some of the coolest pokemon out there (namely hydreigon, zoroark, zekrom, krookoroc, volcarona, golurk and many more), it does have it's downsides but kanto also had pokemon like muk and mr. Mime. Also TMs not breaking was a godsend, and the fact that only 6 HMs exist and just cut is necessary to progress through the story was very a welcome decision.
Glad to have another person have this feeling. Man I miss those days where I would just not have a care in the world as I played my first Pokémon game.

I didn't even notice thanks. Now I have to watch it again with the subtitles on because is even better so I'm not complaining

This is the best Pokémon generation by a mile, and there is no argument that can tell me otherwise. The music and story alone sends chills down your spine and can bring tears to your eyes.
By far my favorite generation. If only we had more like this…

Hot take: Iris is my favorite champion and has best champion theme. She was treated with so much respect in the games and you literally fight on rainbow road
Gen 5 never deserved the hate it got. And now it, just like Iris in the games, is treated with so much respect. I’m happy I never let go of my first.
Gen 5ers, rise up!

I kinda prefer Alder, as he and his theme have that seasoned veteran and grand final challenge vibe.

The anime totally screwed it over though.
As someone whose first game was gen 5, this hurts right in the feels.
Glad to have another person have this feeling. Man I miss those days where I would just not have a care in the world as I played my first Pokémon game.
So it wasn't just me...
