The kid that got superkicked had a blast. It was his birthday and they got together with the kid and his father and put it all together for him. As for the 9 yr old girl, that was great to watch as it showed Kenny being professional and safely working with her. It's an experience she will never forget. Hell, that moment may of paved the way for a future women's champion.

When you go out there and try to make it look as good and believable as you can so that people can actually get emotionally invested in it and then the next match is a complete joke, it kind of ruins it. And yes, it is scripted and I've known that at least on some level since I was a kid but when it's done right people do get invested in the product and that sells tickets. It's not supposed to be a clown show.
As much as I like Jim Cornette and respect his love for the wrestling business he really goes overboard on some things and I don't get the hate on Kenny. As much as I prefer the older days of wrestling you can't keep living in the past with today's audience. Almost everyone knows wrestling is a work now, so getting upset that he has a match (that was a comedy match in which the girl was protected) with a 9 year old girl is ridiculous. It was done for a laugh pure and simple. It certainly isn't as insulting as the WWE which constantly have divas going over legit skilled women wrestlers.

It also proves how little respect he has for the wrestling business and highlights the depths to which the business has sunk in general. To the casual viewer, there is no way that somebody like him could be taken seriously. Remember, wrestling is supposed to appeal to everyone (whether they are wrestling fans or not), not just people on the internet who enjoy the sort of stupidity he participates in. That means creating a product that is believable. Keep in mind, as a wrestler, you are supposed to try to make fans to SUSPEND THEIR DISBELIEF. Everyone knows wrestling is fake. You'd have to be an idiot not to know that it's a work. The mere fact that two men can punch each other in the face so many times during the course of a match and emerge without a mark on their faces is proof of that. However, once again, as a wrestler, you are supposed to try to make people suspend their disbelief, not to go out of your way to convince them that the whole thing is a load of BS. In my mind, doing otherwise shows a blatant lack of respect for the pro-wrestling business and for yourself as a professional wrestler. And before you mention how great of an athlete he is, YES, I agree. He is a good wrestler. However, a match should be more than just one high spot after the next in an effort to simulate Street Fighter, and I think that any veteran wrestler would agree with me (Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, etc.).

I thought that match with the kid was a testament to how good in ring he really is. He could have phoned that in. But he put together a fun little match with that kid and told a cute story. He made it all look good, sold everything just right, and together they made the spots on her look rough, while being safe as can be. It's sort of like Jericho and Austin talking about how they used to practice selling and creating impact by wrestling the invisible man. It's about knowing your opponent, and knowing your part in it to make it look good, no matter who the opponent is.
It’s just a generational thing. Jims from a time where people took pro wrestling seriously and tried to sell it as a shoot and an athletic contest. Kenny is from a generation where its ‘sports entertainment’- it’s about being goofy and unserious now. I think Jim is correct that this change means no one really wants to watch it anymore outside of the small circle of people who like intentionally goofy sports entertainment
After listening to this and Cornette, I have to say this: If you can wrestle a 9-year old, as safely as possible, then you are as good as it can get. The fact that he can make a wrestling match with a 9 year old girl fun and entertaining while also keeping her safe proves what world class professional he really is.
It also proves how little respect he has for the wrestling business and highlights the depths to which the business has sunk in general. To the casual viewer, there is no way that somebody like him could be taken seriously. Remember, wrestling is supposed to appeal to everyone (whether they are wrestling fans or not), not just people on the internet who enjoy the sort of stupidity he participates in. That means creating a product that is believable. Keep in mind, as a wrestler, you are supposed to try to make fans to SUSPEND THEIR DISBELIEF. Everyone knows wrestling is fake. You'd have to be an idiot not to know that it's a work. The mere fact that two men can punch each other in the face so many times during the course of a match and emerge without a mark on their faces is proof of that. However, once again, as a wrestler, you are supposed to try to make people suspend their disbelief, not to go out of your way to convince them that the whole thing is a load of BS. In my mind, doing otherwise shows a blatant lack of respect for the pro-wrestling business and for yourself as a professional wrestler.
And before you mention how great of an athlete he is, YES, I agree. He is a good wrestler. However, a match should be more than just one high spot after the next in an effort to simulate Street Fighter, and I think that any veteran wrestler would agree with me (Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, etc.).

I thought that match with the kid was a testament to how good in ring he really is. He could have phoned that in. But he put together a fun little match with that kid and told a cute story. He made it all look good, sold everything just right, and together they made the spots on her look rough, while being safe as can be. It's sort of like Jericho and Austin talking about how they used to practice selling and creating impact by wrestling the invisible man. It's about knowing your opponent, and knowing your part in it to make it look good, no matter who the opponent is.

If you can wrestle a 9-year old, as safely as possible, then you are as good as it can get.
As for Cornette, I know he hates comedy matches and such, but he needs to look in mirror of the stuff he went through. Pretty hypocritical on his end. Don't get me wrong, Cornette has a great mind in the business, but he is only as good as in regional and not in a national level.
Jim is an absolutely great historian of pro wrestling. No one can take that away from him. He is a treasure in that regard, and I will sing his praises in that vein.
