    Not to bad Guys! These vintage cards look so great in the psa slab, that Roger Clemens was awesome!

    great reveal. sorry you weren't happy with the grades. I have thought about sending in some of my older cards as well but I have heard vintage they are super tough on. I thought I could probably buy higher grades than grade what I have, but then it wouldn't have the nostalgia of having pulled them myself.

      Thanks appreciate the comments. Was hoping for much better from the 1982s, because they were recently pack pulled and looked perfect. It is just so hard to get high grades on older cards. You are right- more fun pulling them, but cheaper to buy higher grades than to submit piles of them.

    Definitely don't ask about other orders. Also psa will grade better when you pay more. , they even will contact you on high dollar cards and offer you a better grade if you will pay even more.

      Yeah, I regretted making the inquiry, which I did twice even. Won't do that again. You're right, sending in on a value special might not lead to the best grades as well. Thanks for watching

      That's extortion, and unethical. If McDonald's runs a special for 99 cent hamburgers does that mean that they don't make it just as good as they would if you paid full price for it?

    • @eltoroloco1936
      @eltoroloco1936 Рік тому

      You are incorrect on your assessment of "offering" better grades if you will pay more. Their pricing submission scale is based on the submitter's perceived value of the card. Part of that price is based on insurance liability. There is a vast difference between sending in a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle and a 1986 Topps Roger Clemens. The "better grade" you refer to is the difference between the value of, for example, a 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson PSA 8 and a 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson PSA 10. When sent, the value may have been under $499 so the grading cost would have been $19. Let's say the submitted under-estimated the condition and it received a Gem Mint grade. A PSA 10 is worth north of $100,000. They call you WITH THE OPTION to have it slabbed for the correct pricing tier. You don't have to pay that tier and they wont slab it at all if you decline. So they aren't offering to go from a Mint to a Gem Mint grade. They are just telling you it's Gem Mint and the correct pricing tier. In this example, either pay it or be an idiot and never grade again. YOU WANT THAT CALL!

      @@eltoroloco1936 that sounds like extortion to me.
      " Sure we will grade this card for you for twenty bucks, but wait, we graded it high so we more money."
      That's unethical the company is there to grade cards. How would anyone know what the card is worth until it's graded? That's the whole f****** point of sending it in.
      They agreed to grade the card for twenty bucks at the beginning of the transaction. Then if you have a really nice card they renege on that and they're like oh no wait...

      @@0_44_4 Again, you keep missing the pricing tier point. For $20, they'll grade cards with a value no more $499. You know what you signed up for. I would understand if they are penny pinching and saying, well the card is actually worth $510 and charge you $40 but they aren't doing that.

    Compared to others you had, surprised the Clemens got a 7! How strict are they on centering for 80s cards? Is a little bit no issue? Seems like all of mine are OC.

    • @CardCollectingDuo
      @CardCollectingDuo  10 місяців тому +1

      For the Clemens out was probably taken off for the edges. It had some chipping of the black border, which a lot of the 86s have. I was happy with that one, as opposed to the 82s, which I agree was too strict on the centering. Thanks for watching

    Can you do a reassessment of those 1982 Topps cards? I'm curious what you may have missed.

    • @CardCollectingDuo
      @CardCollectingDuo  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I looked, and still not sure. They had some small print defects/circles, but they usually don't take off much for that. All surfaces and edges were pristine. Rose was slightly off center, the other 2 were not. I may crack out a couple of them and resubmit after some time.

    • @eltoroloco1936

      @@CardCollectingDuo I just went over about a half case and two vending boxes. The print quality seems to be a big issue. That applies to almost every Topps issue in the 80s.The colors could be washed out. I looked closer at the Stieb and the corners looked slightly touched. When PSA sent be the receive scans on the cards I sent, I was a little shocked at some of the issues the cards had that I sent in. I know one Ozzie Newsom that I believed was a 10 had 4 touched corners. It only graded a 7. From what I gather, if a card looks good from the naked eye, ,a PSA 4 usually means a crease, a PSA 5-6 is typically a surface issue like an indent, a 7 is usually print quality, so snow or ink issues and an 8 is corners or centering.

    I don't understand why PSA is the standard. They have ugly slabs, and the customer service is horrible. I know PCA owns SGC now, not sure why more people aren't using SGC. I like the way TAG slabs look, but not sure I'd ever use them.

    • @CardCollectingDuo
      @CardCollectingDuo  19 днів тому

      Yeah I think a lot of people feel that way. But PSA has the best resale value, for whatever reason, so they are going to be the most used. I like TAG too. Thanks for watching

  • @0_44_4
    @0_44_4 Рік тому +3

    Stop using PSA. They offer no explanation as to why they graded a card the way they did. In the future cards with explanations, BGS OR SGC, will be worth more. I'm so tired of watching PSA reveals with people full of confusion and disappointment.

    • @CardCollectingDuo
      @CardCollectingDuo  Рік тому

      Yeah I hear you. If the resale values were better, those companies with subgrades would be even more worth it.

      @@CardCollectingDuo I'm an older collector. All my stuff has been in boxes, it's all sleeved and top loaded. I just want to start grading.. I don't want that question in my head if it looks really good and gets a nine or lower.. I feel as a consumer that having an explanation if not now, but in the future will be more valuable..
      Anyone please feel free to comment, if you had to go with BGS or SGC, who would you pick and why or why not?
