- I took advantage of a PSA quarterly special and submitted 15 1980's cards including 4 re-subs that were part of my 'nightmare reveal'. The results are interesting to say the least!

That Sandberg was LEGIT.
Thanks for watching! I was very happy to receive that one back for my PC set.
Lots of variance on the McGwire. Yup, you're correct the 7 is more centered than the 8. No surprise. PSA is having problems, internally. Great vid
Thanks for watching!
Bro this video is so wholesome your reactions on the grades are so funny. W vid
Thanks for watching, and really appreciate the comment! I just try to have fun and enjoy.
Wow, getting a 10 on that Sandberg it TOUGH!
Thanks for watching! The Ryno was definitely the highlight of this sub for sure!
Huge congrats on the Ryno!
Thanks! Held that one for a while and it was totally worth it!
That is just Wrong! The same card can get so many different grades from 1 company. It's a joke...
Thanks for watching and sharing the same opinion as many of us in the hobby! Biggest issue with grading is consistency and adherence to stated standards.
Fun stuff!!~ splendid taste in inventory.
Thanks!
80s cards are tough. Even with great centering, the color and cardboard could have issues. From print quality to stray ink stains.
Agree - that's why I love them! A lot of folks don't appreciate how hard it is to even get 8s. Thanks for watching!
Interested ride you had in this video. Highs, lows, confusion, disbelief
LOL! There was quite a bit of emotion packed into this short reveal. I had fun with it, hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
Beautiful Sandberg!
Wow is PSA so inconsistent. Nice grades for you. Congrats. For PSA to go up "2" grades are insane. Really nice Sandberg. I have 3 that I've never graded because They just don't give out 10's. Well I guess I'm wrong. Nice!! Thanks for the reveal
Thanks for watching! I've held that Sandberg for a while now, really glad I finally pulled the trigger! I think it's pretty clear that PSA has a consistency problem when 3 out of 4 resubs change. I think they are a victim of their own grading scale being intentionally so subjective. Though that doesn't seem to be putting a dent into their business. I try not to hate, and I continue to play the game, so expressing my opinion is a bit of a balancing act...
They are the worst in the business but sell the best!
After seeing this I want to Crack my 5 9s and resub
I’ve been waiting 6 months and there’s no excuse
2 grades different???
Welcome to the world of PSA! Where 6’s today are 8’s tomorrow and MINSIZERQ the next day! It’s kind of how disgusting PSA is when it comes to their actual grading, so are sooooo bad with the ups and downs between orders. Thank you for these videos. Everyone needs to know, monetary value aside (after grading), PSA is terrible at grading cards. Industry worst in my opinion compared to CGC SGC and BGS
Thanks for watching! I don't think there's any arguing against the consistency issue. I've done 3 PSA submissions post-pandemic, and I've decided I really need to steel my nerves for a craps shoot if I'm going to send any cards their way. Not the biggest fan of the game at the moment, but I still play....
That's so true. Why spend your hard earned money to pay for that inconsistent grading and then to pay them twice to try and get the grade you deserved in the first place. It's ridiculous. I've wasted too much money in that grading company trying to maximize my return only to get terrible results from PSA. Only "we" can change it.
I think all grading is inconsistent simply because it’s so objective. There are so many surface issue we don’t see on eye appeal but would look different under a loop. I blame the people who continue to only buy the high grades for what the hobby has become. I will buy the card over the grade, because an 8 can look like a 9 and a 9 can look like a 10. But the hobby is full of people who want to pound their chest regarding their collections and only chase the higher grades no matter what the card looks like.
They aren't that bad.
@@eltoroloco1936 they are. I’ve graded over 2,000 cards with PSA and the ups and downs between orders is extreme in some cases.
Great reveal, check the surface on the McGwire’s. I see pack fresh with surface indents
Do you grade for fun your PC? Entertaining video!
Thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed! I am like a lot of collectors that grade, I think. A lot of the PC does get subbed for fun, but I definitely send some in with the explicit intent of flipping to fund more of the PC stuff. For me, the PC will eventually be handed down to my kids or sold off to fund school or something hopefully.
With submitting several cards a second time and getting different grades, how can we be confident in any of their grading system? How many 9s do we have that should have been a 10? Don't know if I want to waste my money on PSA. Thanks for the video.
Fair point! Thanks for wathcing!
The problem with graders is that you have a new generation grading them! They see these refractors and the new generation cards that come off the press immaculate! The 80's generation that graded these put that into play! Majority of them have retired!
Can't argue with that sentiment! Thanks for watching - hope you enjoyed!
And the old BVG cards with the sub grades on the back get treated like the plague. Those old labels are almost antiques !!
I love the old BVG labels - I can't recall when they eliminated subs off the vintage stuff. While Beckett might not grade as harsh on the vintage, I honestly think that they might be the most accurate. A 5 should be a 5, not a 4. I don't hesitate to grab BVG labels for my PC. For that matter, I also like the original GAI stuff too...
@@jbscardshow Late 2005 they quit using sub grades. I have a 71 Pete Maravich card graded by BGS in 2000 which was two years before BVG. A Staubach rookie in a BGS 8 recently sold for just 1200 bucks. What a steal that was. Before BVG Beckett was notoriously tough on cards.
@@landanwoodard7569 Awesome - thanks for the info! 100% agree
PSA is controlling the market for sure.... Big cards getting lower grades with reason.... you'll never see Jordan, Henderson, Mantle's ever getting 10s again...Beckett's having 4 grading results is more honest.
I wish all my cards were 9-10’s ! Lol
Thanks for watching!
PSA is all over the place absolutely hate them , I have resubmitted many that were eights that came back 9's and 10's , horrible wait times, inconsistent grading, they've also damaged some of my cards, but yet people continue to use them I have switched over to SGC and absolutely loving the experience they're spot-on with my pre- grades.
Thanks for watching! Your observations definitely seem in-line with a lot of collectors at them moment.
A 10 ? Very nice
Thanks for watching!
Kind of makes me wish for AI grading to take human element out of it. Also, pretty sure they consider pop count for those McGwire cards. They don't want too many 10's.
Definitely a believer that they control the pop on certain cards - I remember watching a video a while back on a guy that analyzed the 93 SP Jeter count. I've got mixed feelings on AI, but am definitely a believer in some sort of technology aided grading.
PSA needs to be very specific as to why the grade was given . For example off center, coloring, and explain we’re it is located . Your paying them for a service and they SHOULD explain the flaws in the cards! SMH
Hard to argue against that sentiment. Their grading system is intentionally subjective, though. Part of the game 😕
They need a write up for each card, there is no consitency, if you send in identical cards and recieve different grades there's an issue.
This is it. How they get away with not doing this makes me question why people pay them for their "opinion". The problem is that it is an opinion and there is no way for PSA to know if the slab was cracked and resent for regrading. It's all too subjective for me.
@@spmacdonald precisely why I don't and wouldn't ever collected graded cards. the same cards graded a 10 that sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars you can find the same looking card for 5 or 10 bucks lol.well some maybe 20 or 30 bucks depending on which card. now I will say you may have to spend some serious time going through tons of listings inspecting everything but perfectly centered raws are out there for cheap with perfect sharp corners. and from an eye appeal looking at the card standpoint there is NO difference from the 5 dollar raw on ebay to the 900 dollar "PSA 10" ... this is the reality. I have bought plenty of perfectly centered with sharp corner raws on ebay for dirt cheap where the "PSA 10" sells for 100x more.
do they not send a report with each card to justify their grade? If they don't they should.
None whatsoever - many folks' biggest criticism of the industry in general.
@@jbscardshow they actually are going to now... only on the upper tiers. Regular bulk and on specials,,, NO But they will be giving grader notes for the premium tiers.
@@williampotts7205 Thanks for the update - definitely an interesting development!
It all depends on who gets your card to grade. Until they have a machine do it, you’re going to get inconsistent grades.
Unfortunately I agree with you - which should not be the case. Thanks for watching!
Bring on AI grading to bring consistency to card grading.
I love these cards, I would have slabbed these cards hands down.
Thanks for watching and appreciate that! Some of my favorite cards in this one.
1980s. One way to piss money away.
Can't completely agree with you, but I definitely tend to wait for bulk/specials for the era.
So the person grading the first time had a bad day?? What a joke this grading is
Hard to come up with a better story, lol. Thanks for watching!
Quote…if cards don’t come back the same grades…there’s a problem……the truth is if you yourself graded100 cards….then I took the grades away and made you regrade a month later….of course they wouldn’t all be the same…it’s human nature …….
This card owner is evaluating the grade of his cards and does not show the other side of the cards! DOH! hahaha
Do you really want to know why your cards graded so bad? Send them to TAG and you'll get a detailed report. End of story.
Love your 80s cards. Check out my PSA reveal.
SGC
Thanks for watching! I've got a few SGC reveals out there too - lots of my PC cards are in tuxes.
Sending to psa is gambling at best...
Hard to argue against some days...
Grading is so inconsistent . It’s a rort industry
My biggest criticism ... And FYI I think that the root of the problem is the baked in subjectivity of grading scales. Solution would be clearly defined and objective grading aspects along with technology aided grading (I'm not sold on complete AI or computer grading)
Thanks for watching!
Wow PSA is a total scam. 7 to a 9 is a joke
Don't forget 6 to 8, lol!
PSA is a joke, send them in again, all grades will be different
just goes to show u it depends on whos grading it . psa is all bullshit
PSA has become way too picky with their grades, they've taken the fun out of it when they grade cards 7 that would have been a surefire 9 a couple years ago. Plus they take almost a year on turnaround.
Hard to disagree with you. I've been grading with them for years and with the first couple of subs I've done post-pandemic I definitely notice change.
there is a HUUUUUUUUUUGE change from the late 90's early 2000's for no question 100% certain! I have spent lots of time comparing certain things. and I find tonnnnnnnnns of 80's "junk wax" they gave 10's to that are terribly centered and have dinged corners white chipping all sorts of crazy stuff meanwhile I see people sending in absolutely pack fresh pulled pristine perfectly centered cards no chipping no dings no white on any corner etc and they give them 7's and 8's.
This is why I quit using PSA. You shouldn't have to send in cards -twice to receive the grade they deserve!
It's a hard pill to swallow for sure. Interesting news recently with Beckett dropping their pricing.
