You keep blaming PSA for the wrinkles, but you missed them. Wrinkled card's get 3's and 4's. And if a card's way off center like the '75 Catfish, it can't be a 7 or 8. Read the PSA guidelines and learn the criteria for grading. You guys always blaming PSA for your lack of knowledge. 👎

I'm a small sender myself and cannot agree with this at all. When I inspect my cards carefully and have "honest" grade expectations, 90% of the times get the grade in the expected range, and that includes gems as well. What I did notice is that on every larger delivery, there are one or two excessively low grades which i cannot reconcile. This may be due to internal instructions of down averaging, but it may as well be that there are some creases which i cannot make out by pure naked eye inspection. Either way, i think many people overestimate their grades.

@@intersheett3754 instructions to downgrade or population control specific cards should be totally unacceptable. The sole reason people continue to go to PSA is "resale value," which largely just exists because so many influencers continue to repeat that nonsense. The quicker the hobby can get away from this weird obsession with this shady company, the better. It blows my mind learning about the hobby and seeing people spend all this time and money getting cards graded and PSA can't take the time to 1. Expand their graders to cut down on time, 2. Provide at the very least a quick explanation of what they found wrong with the card. If they provided detailed reports like TAG does, it would prevent their intentional downgrading of specific cards for pop control.

@@jbscardshow I am waiting for a lawsuit against PSA. Too much money difference between a 10 down to a 9 on cards. I just opened a box of 83 football and pulled a gem mint Singletary. It should be a 10 with no prob. It is sharp with all four corners sharp and centering in perfect.. Difference in pricing. PSA 10 $1100.00 and PSA 9 sells for around $40.00
So there is a huge gap in price. I have never sent cards in to be graded. Yet i am sitting on a lot of cards that need graded. But if they come back below a 10. It would cost more than the card is worth. Years ago in the late 90's i bought a football card collection from a guy. He was a writer for Tuff Stuff price guide. I was going thru my 1970s putting together a set. I ran across a perfectly centered card with 4 sharp corners. I have looked at many many many other PSA 10's from the 1970 set. The one i have is as good as the best 10's i have seen. Better than many of the others out there. Yet i feel as though id get down graded due to me never submitting to PSA before. The price goes from like 1200 down to less than 100 from a 10 to 9 in the grade. (Emmerson Boozer is the 1970 card)

PSA damaged my 1968 Topps Jim Palmer card. It was a solid 8, but they creased it and gave it a 5. I believe I figured out how they are damaging and creasing so many cards. The card savers are part of the problem. They are too flimsy and bend easily. If you have a grader that squeezes the card saver at the top with their thumb on one side and their index finger on the other side it is very easy to accidentally bend the card saver. As A result, this puts a crease usually down the middle of the card in a vertical direction. Depending on how hard they squeezed to get the card saver to open far enough to take the card out will also determine how long the crease will go down the card. I really believe that’s how the creasing is happening. Try it for yourself and just take a empty card saver and squeeze or pinch the sides hard enough and the card saver will collapse either inward or outward depending on your directional pressure. I won’t ever send another card to PSA for grading. More people need to boycott PSA whenever something like this occurs to them. Until then, nothing will change and more cards will continue to get damaged.

I had a card that was just perfect. I expected a 10. It came back a 9. and the reason being is the card was damaged by PSA. The corners were perfect when I sent it off. I even checked again while it was in the sleeve and cardboard gold sleeve. The top right that had a PERFECT corner was slightly dented when I got it back. I originally pulled the card in 1999, sleeved, top loaded, put away for over 23 yrs. Recently, reviewed it, for stains, corners, scuffs, print issues under my scope, snapped photos, and sent it out and I have no doubt they damaged it. I feared them damaging it more so I didn't bother fighting it. I just sold it for 25K, if it was a 10 I would have been able to sell it for about 45K. Those comments include the slightest details i can see, auch as centering, scratches, dings, print lines. aside from serving for my own assessment of grading worthiness, this helps me to afterwards identify which copy was witch when they would otherwise look identical. For instance, my last submission included 10 Dirk rookie cards of the same type, and i was able to identify each one with absolute certainty even after they were slabbed. We send in ourselves and there was so far never any doubt that the slabbed cards were the ones sent in. I have had cases however, where the cards after grading had visible damage like a white corner after they came back, which I knew for a fact they did not have when sending them in. So handling damages, albeit small, do happen on occasion within PSA. In my case, i did not have picture documentation to prove it and submit a claim, unfortunately...

Agreed the consistency just isn’t there. I’ve seen sharp uncreased cards with decent centering that look like 6’s or 7’s coming back 4’s recently. It doesn’t really make sense. Best bet anymore if you want a certain card in a certain grade, just buy it already slabbed. I’m over it. I learned how to grade before PSA. If I have a nice raw PC card that I’m happy with, it usually doesn’t get sent in anymore. I know what I have. A buddy of mine had a minty, I mean we looked at the corners under 10x and there wasn't a touch on any of them - '68 Ryan rookie, only it was miscut side-to-side. I was expecting him to get like an 8 or 9 (MC). PSA gave him a 4 (MC). Absolutely laughable, there was nothing else wrong with that card besides the cut. They also pop control the big names, and players like Ryan are a prime example. So especially in a condition sensitive set like '71, it's going to be a lot easier to get grades on the level out of a pile of commons than it is players like Ryan or Clemente or Aaron. Sad. It's been more or less like this for decades, but it's particularly bad right now.

My assumption was that they insist on you using those because they can use an X-Acto knife to simply slice the top loader and remove it without any chance of damaging the card. For them to grab it with their thumb and try to remove it is beyond Ludacris. Does anyone have any more information on how they handle those top loaders?

I refuse to send to PSA until they grade like TAG. They need to be more consistent regardless of who you are or how you are sending them in to be graded. Also, the creasing sounds like an automated scanning machine that creases the card via a roller that creases the card in the process of taking card in and out of the scanner. No way are they hand scanning over a million cards per month front/back without automation.

For 'vintage' cards (~pre-1985ish) I'd go with SGC for consistent grading and higher value cards that you may want to sell/invest in. For 1986+(junk wax-modern)/non-sports (also lower value/PC/sentimetal)cards I'd recommend CSG(soon to be CGC) for the consistent albeit 'tough' grading and much more reasonable cost; also, they have the BEST quality/feel/clarity slab in the industry atm and have a massive built-in customer base from all the other collectables they grade(specifically comics, memorabilia and coins) + they are poised to take a lot of customers away from PSA.
IDC if PSA is the 'known standard' in the industry, the real collectors know the value of quality slabs from SGC and CSG is gaining a positive reputation as well!

Is PSA not being held accountable for damaging peoples cards?! Maybe take a good photo of them before sending them off to them? They recently declined to fix a label on a ticket of mine, because it was an "unofficial" Exhibition game. It's a Mays rookie where he debuted at Fenway and they refuse to label it as such. They tell me it's not a debut, because it's not official, even though he never played a regular game at Fenway. I guess the customer is wrong and PSA can continue to inconsistently grade cards and damage them without any repercussions, too.

As with anything where money is out there for the taking, there must be corruption in the grading game. It seems as though NO CARD before 1980 can even get a 10 anymore. It’s like they’ve agreed to shut the door on vintage high grading to keep the pop small to keep the highest prices high so people will keep grading their “great cards” thinking they might get a 10 when they never had a chance to no matter how perfect the card may actually be? It seems like for vintage, a 7 or 8 is the new 10. I’d love to see some high magnification comparisons using the same card issue in various grades compared to the same grades given from a different time. Like a 1976 Nolan Ryan 8 grade from 2024 and an 8 from 2010? And do that for ones from 2018 & 2022. As many of the same card graded in different years of the same card, same grade, same company. And try to build a body of stats that may show bias or pattern of some kind to get to the bottom of this highly lucrative industry. (An independent audit of the grading industry) My instincts don’t like something about it. It is in the best interest of the graders and those who hold old Gem 10s to not increase those elite populations. It feels like there are artificial factors imposing itself over objective grading practices. Like the graders indirectly get the message to dial it up or down without it being explicitly or officially spoken.
There is NO excuse for damaging a card and you have all my sympathies for that, anyone would!
Like who are the people actually grading the cards? Are they coming to work High AF giggling as they carelessly pull the cards out of the protector you meticulously made sure was protected and undamaged, and go “oopsie” when they ding it as they take it out? I guarantee you some are! So if he grades your cards in the first half hour at work is he more lenient or more nitpicky? Compared to the last half hour before lunch when he’s starting to Jones a little for his smoke time? I mean if you don’t think all this shit is happening everyday in these grading rooms, you are not acknowledging reality of the human condition. There are graders who must hate what they do, or hate a certain player for whatever reason, or are so tired of seeing the same cards all the time. That’s why it’s an imperfect science at best. And why it needs something to keep them in check somewhat. They can’t have the absolute final say because we know what that does eventually.

  • @Teflonchxpo

Dude.. KEEP your head up. DO NOT let them see you discouraged.
This industry has become the definition of corruption. For YEARS now.
Change and transparency is inevitable. It will happen eventually. The true Collectible’s industry will regain respect and prosperity once again.
Those who believe they control it’s fait.. will fall. It’s only a matter of time.
Just continue to do right by other collectors.. and have faith.
THEY WILL NOT WIN IN THE END.
    I PROMISE.
