I love Sparkpelt her storyline is so sad and I heard this song and it just fit so well with her relationship with Flamepaw

For context this is set in the most recent book River
Flamepaw is the son of Sparkpelt. His father, Larksong, died when he was born which sent Sparkpelt into a depression leaving her incapable of raising her two kits. As a result Flamepaw and his sister were raised by Sorrelstripe. His sister Finchpaw bonds with Sparkpelt a bit when they leave the clan briefly due to the abuse of the imposter bramblestar. Flamepaw consistently resents Sparkpelt for never trying to get close to him or even having a conversation with him. This is meant to show how both cats are conflicted and curious about eachother but the pain and trauma is too much for either of them to reach out and so the rift continues to tear between them.

Flamepaw’s chapters got grating after a bit, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plot thread develops (and really hope that the Erins don’t demonize Sparkpelt who obviously dealt with postpartum depression).
Oh I absolutely agree tbh I don’t like any of the new protagonists but his relationship with Sparkpelt is the one thing I actually find interesting about Flamepaw

They've did well with palebird who was tallstars mother so I think they handled it quite well.
Their relationship is so complicated I’m so glad to see content focused on it. Also glad about the Sorrelstripe addition!! She’s been so good to Flamepaw. I hope that Sparkpelt sees that after Flamepaw becomes Nightheart he is growing up but still needs motherly love
very satisfying! one of my favorite things about river was flamepaw's conflict with his mother and how they actually had a moment to address it. i truly hope we see more of him and sparkpelt having confrontations or interactions.
I’m happy yhe books are finally making Sparkpelt respect Nightheart as his own cat and repairing their relationship
This is what good family drama looks like, very impressed with the Erin's soo far, this is a far cry from the "brambleclaw looks like tigerstar" or, dare I say, "forbidden romance" drama that the Erin's typically resort to. They really have something good here, hope they continue to expand on it.
This is definitely so much better than previous family drama plotlines. The situation with Sparkpelt and Nightheart just feels so realistic compared to the others. You're easily able to sympathize with both sides and see where they're coming from, plus it doesn't feel at all forced like the forbidden romances or Tigerclaw and Brambleclaw situation
@@ricegorm Exactly right, I love the fact that you can feel for both sparkpelt and flamepaw, and overall how genuine their story is, just good writing and storytelling by the Erin's, and I'm just hoping they keep it up.
Yup, the reason i kinda lost interest in the series was because the repetive topics like forbidden romance or "ooh i'm not like tigerstar". It was boring so i'm glad to see new drama
I love how this shows their complex relationship. As a mother with mental health struggles who also remembers how young me felt when her own parents messed up, this hits.
I understand Flamepaws anger and it's very much fitting of a child, the mom in me feels for Sparkpelt, especially as I see her TRYING but Flamepaws is so angry he refuses to see these as attempts, or if he sees them it still doesn't feel like enough.
Where I will never say children should get over their parents who's mental health has made it harder for them to be their best(which our kids deserve) it also hurts to see that Flamepaws actions are the very reason Sparkpelt keeps her distance. It's not his FAULT, but even if valid there is only so much lashing a person can take and it's harder when you're the parent and are pressured to BE the punching bag for your kids. In some ways yes we must separate personal feelings while our children are exploring these intense/uncontrollable feelings so they have a safe space, parents are still human and hearing such things from a child hurts.
I ADORE this dynamic they are exploring and it's very needed. It gives kids a character they can relate to while also coming from the other books, can see Sparkpelt as her own character which can help them bridge the gap with a parent if they are having similar issues.
Sorry to get on a rant, but this storyline gripped me and makes me excited to see more.
I like seeing content focused on nightheart, specially Nightheat and Sparkpelt. Even though a lot sees Nightheart as angsty, I feel like it’s deeper than that.
Nightheart as an apprentice possibly even kit was told a lot about being kin to a great and awesome leader. Telling a young person that can have negative effects, making them think they have to live up to their kin, and as Nightheart continued to fail over his apprenticeship, he felt the urge to distance himself away from the kin he felt bound to wanting to be his own not have expectations set by his own kin.

the conflict between Nightheart and Sparkpelt is probably one of my favorites in the new series
because you can sympathize and understand both cats, both of them have valid reasons to feel the way they do.
Sparkpelt lost her mate and then one of her kits leaving her unable to take care of her remaining kits due to depression which lead to sorrelstripe becoming their foster mom, Sparkpelt had valid reasons behind why she wasn't there for most of Nightheart's early life
Where as Nightheart also has valid reasons for feeling resentment towards her, it's likely he just doesn't understand why she wasn't there and likely felt abandoned, he doesn't know how to communicate with her because they were never able to build that bond that most parents build with their kids in early childhood. it's also possible he might feel jealous over Finch's relationship with their mother so with all of this combined, he lashes out constantly and just doesn't know what to do
Nightheart and Sparkpelt are stuck in this awkward cycle of wanting a parent-child bond but not knowing how to interact with eachother. it's probably one of the most realistic conflicts in the series

I can relate to flame paw/night-heart, because I had a similar relationship with my parents, my mother and father were always in jail due to drugs and stealing, I have a better relationship with my dad he stopped taking drugs, and I visit him often, he doesn’t treat me like a little kid, he treats me as a teenager, my mother has stopped stuff related to that, but she couldn’t get her life together like my dad did, she’s still on the streets, she has been missing but we found her at a hospital she is sick, but is recovering. she treats me as a kid. Getting me little pony’s, trying to get me little girl toys, I’m 13. I don’t need that.
Everytime I look at her, I feel as if I’m talking to a stranger, I only cried once. I don’t really have a great relationship with my mother, she said she thought I wanted nothing to do with her, I don’t but I don’t care enough I don’t want to see her dead or find out she is dead, I want her to be alive, to be in my life, just in the background.
You’re only 13, you’re still a kid. You should feel some relief that your parents aren’t forcing you to grow up too fast.
@@siqxyre8473 your saying if that’s a good thing as if growing up fast is a worse thing. Two of my parents are ex drug addicts, I’m a crackhead baby bro. I’ve been raised by grandparents instead of my own parents. I’ve had to grow up looking at other kids with their parents.
Such a great masterpiece,it shows the strained relations between mother and son and how they were pulled further and further apart emotionally even at the beginning of his childhood❤️👏👏

i looove this so much. Lyrics made me want to cry a little and the visuals just defeated me completely. Especially the "i've loved you but never knew you" part was like a punch in the feels, since i just recently reread river. Awesome work, thank you for this content!!!!
Your probably the only one I've seen not completely blame nightheart for the situation which I appreciate. People act like sparkpelt did no wrong when she left with finchlight but not nightheart. She could've taken both of them but didn't which I feel should be more discussed then it is.
I heard someone say in another comment section that it was Flamepaw's fault for not going with Sparkpelt. I can't believe people are actually blaming the child rather than Sparkpelt, but Nightheart haters will just be like that

My guy she was literally exiled. Nightheart could have left with her like his sister. Getting pissy that your mom “abandoned you” after she was EXILED when you could have gone with her is stupid as hell. Blaming Sparkpelt for it is also dumb.

Also, Sparkpelt barely even attempted to reconnect with Flamepaw/Nightheart when she came back, which IS something to blame her for. Just because she wasn't able to nurse him when he was a kit doesn't instantly mean "oop, our relationship is ruined, let me just be awkward around him during every single one of our interactions instead of remotely attempting to reconcile" and that's completely on her, and another sign of a bad mother. No, her getting exiled wasn't really her fault, but saying "oh this *child* should have put himself in a position where he would lose his home and live the life of a loner, and then let me get mad at the kid for choosing the Clan instead of his mom. Nightheart has the RIGHT to be angry with Sparkpelt. Not because she was exiled and physically wasn't able to take care of him (again, not her fault), but for cutting him off for the most part when she came back, and because of how much of a selfish brat she acted when he wanted to change his name. Like bitch you've barely been in his life, and now you wanna act like an entitled, spoiled brat when he wants to make his own choices? Sorry, but no. Sparkpelt is a bad mother to Nightheart, regardless of what she's been through. As I said before, some things aren't really her fault, but that doesn't instantly justify how she treated him as an apprentice and warrior.

Yeah I’m not reading all that. Sparkpelt was not a bad mother to him in the slightest, nor was she “never around” him. She raised him for a majority of his life. We don’t actually see much of their interactions post-exile, which makes sense because they weren’t main characters.
And acting like he’s a baby/young child during that period is just dumb. Yeah he wasn’t a warrior, but he was in the equivalent of his late teens. He could have chosen to go with his mother and sister (who, surprise, is the same age as him). He can’t hold his mother’s exile above her head when he CHOSE not to follow her. Yeah he has a right to do what he wants, but if he wanted to stay with her he could have left. There is no reason why he couldn’t. That’s his fault, not Sparkpelt’s.

I loved early nightheart/flamepaw as a character so much, and I really want (even if if almost 100% sure that this won’t happen) for him to just snap and do something terrible way way more than I should honestly but then sunbeam ruined him and I’m mad

Oh man this made me tear up. I’m really close to my mom, so seeing Flamepaw’s relationship with his mother and imagining having a strained relationship like theirs with my mom hit me hard. The art is amazing and the song fits them perfectly! The editing is simple and effective, and that’s what makes it work. Love this!

Genuinely I love this more than I could ever explain in words, I wish the Erin’s would have shown more of how Sparkpelt feels about nightheart, not his whole story being about legacy and crap I wish they’d have gone the route of having his whole story being his own family drama cause there’s a lot of it.

Nightheart is Flamepaw. He didn't like his warrior name 'Flameheart' so he asked Bramblestar to change it, and Bramblestar named him 'Nightheart'

Sparkpelt (daughter of Squirrelflight) is the mother of Flamepaw (the black cat), and due to postpartum depression and losing her mate as soon as Flamepaw and his sister were born, she became fairly distant from her kits. As a result, Flamepaw (and his sister) were raised by Sorrelstripe (the daughter of Lionblaze and Cinderheart, and the brown tabby in the video) during their early life.
After Flamepaw and Finchpaw (his sister) became apprentices, Sparkpelt is punished by Bramblestar’s imposter and is attacked. She later is exiled by her father’s imposter, and is followed by Finchpaw.
Due to her depression and separation from her children for a while after they were born, and her being absent from Thunderclan for a short period, Flamepaw’s relationship with her became troubled and resentful. He feels that she didn’t provide the support he needed throughout his life, and even though he’s older, their relationship is still strained and Sparkpelt remains somewhat distant from him.
That’s the quickest summary of the context behind the video I can manage lol.

So Sparkpelt's mate Larksong died when Flamepaw was born. Because Sparkpelt was grieving so much, she couldn't take care of her kits. This lead to Sorrelstripe {the brown cat} raising Flamepaw and his sister. Flamepaw holds a grudge against Sparkpelt for not being there for him as a kit, even if she's trying to be a bit more active in his life now that he's older and she's not actively grieving
