I've worked in the auto parts end of the business for many years, and in that time I've met a very few natural diagnosticians... from DIY to independent shop to automotive dealer. They are few and far between, and they are invaluable to their customer base. Eric is a natural diagnostician of the highest order, and his videos are a joy to watch! You can have all of the fancy tools and gadgets they make, but unless you have it between the ears, you are just a parts changer! Kudos, my friend! What you do is a service to all of your fans and subscribers! And Merry Christmas!
I very much love the fact that you take the time to track down faults, i've seen a lot of mechanics or shops that just run through and the first thing that makes something work again they call it enough.. you go the extra little bit to make sure that that is the actual problem plus take the extra to make sure that everything checks out. . Thanks for bringing us along for the repair .
Thanks bro i own a 2006 cherokee was having that same issue. I just happen to pull my number 27 fuse where it is located under the hood my 15amp blue fuse was blown. Thanks allot do more videos on jeeps. Great video saved me from a ticket.
My Twins have a 2005 Grand limited with the exact same issue. I came home from work and was able to fish the pins out from the contacts and insert a new fuse. The radio 30 amp fuse (inside the car) is the next fuse to go. Good luck!!
Great job brother. Helped me out tremendously in the 1st 40 seconds by just mentioning the 3 sets of lights most likely being all on the same "element" 🙏
Just amazing. 2005 Grand. Same symptoms. Actually lots of electrical gremlins. Now I know exactly how to diagnose....or at least where to start. Wish I knew how to clean and rebuild that PDC box. Not paying $300 for rebuilt or lots more for OEM.
I normal love the quality full blown OEM repair that only SMA provides but for what the customer wanted and for what he wanted to pay, this was a cost viable repair. Great diagnosis and repair!
It takes a rare mechanic to be able to fix the newest vehicles using the best software and latest equipment and also rig something as a total backyard junk patch together job all in the same day. Haha. Love it! Great job !!!!
I'm new to your channel, watched alot of videos and even saw your hat decay along the way. I'm 35 and going back to school to become a mechanic, already doing small business at home, mainly working bolts for now. But I love the challenge. Scotty made me start and you make me not give up! Unfused power lead? What could possibly go wrong? LOL! I love your overcome attitude! it is being able to understand what the diag tools are telling you. Kudos, Dr. O.
It seems like you could save yourself some time and aggravation if you mounted angled mirrors on your garage doors and your front wall so that you could see all the front and rear lights on a vehicle while you were sitting in the driver's seat. If I can think that; you can think that.
Why not just use the reflection off of the doors? I use that to check my own lights, near a wall, for instance. Not as accurate, but you can see if they come on. No money spent that way.
i try the reflection here and it's plain hard to see all the various lights and generally the rear of vehicle isn't but 3' off a white door, mirrors would be "the cats meow" and "the bee's knees"
You are a decent dude. A lot of mechanics out there would call the customer and tell them to replace parts. You offer solutions that are practical for each customer. May hurt your wallet on that one job but it brings in more business in the end.
Must be an eastern US problem, here in the west we don't have near the corrosion issues except in states they think salting the roads in the winter is a great idea ugg...oh and the liquid de-icer that turns into a sheet of ice. I've never had any corrosion issues with either of my Jeeps, then again mine are/were a little older, 96/98 ZJ's....oh and the service 4WD system message made me laugh, so glad mine is all mechanical.
Ah, the legendary TIPM. I ran into a TIPM not too long ago on a Liberty. The customer stated that somethings wrong with my headlights, i think it's the Master Switch because when switch is activated the brights just flash/flicker and do not stay on." At first I was in agreement that it did sound like a switch and when I tried it initially, it did seem like that could be the case. However it's more I played with it I realized there was a sequence to how the lights flashed. When switch activated, lights with flash on off on off. Activate switch; on off on off. Switch one time, flash twice. I began thinking it sounds like a relay to me. Anyway our very special Service Manger didn't want to "waste any more time on this" and so he ordered a Multifunction Switch. I cringed and shook my head. Long Story Short: I didn't get paid for my diag, nor did I get paid to R&R.... NOR did I get paid to remove and put back in the old but not broken MFS. 😑 ...... Then our service Director wonders why I (and many other people) have a difficult time getting along with this service manager and two flag Techs just resigned.

When we first got it a few years ago, it had a couple of things that didn’t work. Went to the fuse box right off the hop and quickly found a fuse that had a corroded off leg. You saved my bacon with the discussion about TIPM bypass kits. I have a very cheap salvage title PT that i think needs a TIPM. Horn out, airbag lights on, etc. FOr just a horn I will definitely consider that fix.
Vanessa and my wife would get along great. She's always building something! She usually makes little ornaments to give to her customers at the salon for Christmas. I got roped into cutting about 200 little shapes of fabric one year. Didn't take much brain power, so I watched UA-cam while cutting. 😁 No shame in that fix, Eric. The way I look at it, as long as the customer is fine with it, and it's labeled, I see no problem in making your own fused circuit. I do this ALOT! It's easier for me, and I get the vehicle out of here faster, AND it's cheaper/faster for the customer too. A win-win. I use white duct tape and a sharpie to label the circuit close to the box. Just did one this summer on that '07 GMC Sierra you may or may not remember - I was asking you a million questions about why I had no comm to the FSCM - it ended up being the ABS module, exactly like you said, since the comm lines pass through the ABS unit on their way to the FSCM as you explained. Anyway, this one had an open between the ABS 1 fuse and the ABS unit, so I tapped into the external buss there, and installed a 40A J-case fuse to power it (wired from the factory to power trailer brakes), ran it down to the module, hiding the wire in the loom where I could, and securing it where I couldn't - when I installed the new ABS module, everything worked as designed, and the red brake light went out, so the guy could get a sticker. That was his only concern. I couldn't make the ABS light go out, since I didn't have a way to "initialize" the new ABS module (unless I missed the correct window in the Autel ..). Local shop couldn't do it either, so I didn't feel so bad! Stupid GM and their damn programming! Other than that, the truck was fixed. Thanks again for that, btw. 👍👍
Eric it is only temporary, unless it works, then we go for a little more time. Maybe 2 winters. Nice job it fulfills the requirements of the vehicle and it is fused. I think some would have soldered the connection inside the box so they would never need a fuse.
Most mechanics would shoot the parts cannon at it. Thanks for taking such good care of your customers. Fuse holder crusty....Plan b....its a beater...love the fuse holder idea. Please show us Mrs. O`s reindeer when she finishes them.
Alright I got a new Business plan. Move to Avoca, buy used cars with weird problems no one can figure out. Take them to South Main Auto, get them fixed, resell them for profit! The ones that are too rusty to pass a NY inspection I can send back to Ohio!
Devisioned Fate Yep most definitely lol. Not sure about the rest of Ohio but here in Toledo there is definitely not a single inspection you have to pass lol. Rust hole through the floor.... no problem lol
I saw that loose fuse and yelled "there's your problem, lady" (inaudibly) before you did! ...but then, you didn't :( Nice simple fix. Well done. Nothing rustin' down here in Houston.
I personally have zero problem with your repair. 1 thing of note is that USUALLY the 3rd brake light is on its own circuit as a safety thing, so not sure what's happening there. I remember in the mid 2000s fixing GM trucks with melted fuse box/relay centers that had over amp draw on their f/p relay due to failing pumps, and adding an external relay after a new pump, when I worked for a fleet service co. It was all about 'getting them going' again rather than replacing the fuse/relay center which took a lot more time. While what you did there certainly wasn't as designed, it is safe. If you want real goofy wiring issues where everything seems to be melted, I'd suggest working on mid 80s to mid 90s Fords. What a mess! Good vid for the guy who just wants to get the car back on the road, safetly!
AGAIN NO BRAKE CLEANER??!! FRAK!!! 😂😂😂 Holy cow, Mr. O. One side is a screwdriver the other is a hammer. Let Mrs. O know we UA-camrs want to see her finished reindeer. Awesome!! The noon siren went off too many times. Did you tune your radio to the AM station for further information? No. And it kept blowin. Over and over. Yo’use guys must love lunch. Thanks for the video. Chrysler keeps us walkin’ and good folks like you in business. Frankly... I love the videos. Hats off and thanks for goin the extra mile for us. If you can do it.... then, you can film it. Sweet!!!!
Did a "external relay" on a seabring a few months ago. The gentleman had replaced the transmission, Then the solenoids every single one of them. The wiring harness and a few different sensors. Was just broken wire inside fuse box for "limp mode" relay.
You should have asked Mrs. O if you could have borrowed some of her reindeer to hold the pedal down. They are in the garage after all so make them functional. There was a service bulletin recall for the 4wd service light problem for my GC. It was fixed for free and is still going strong.
I like your channel and your videos. Maybe you should do a show that speaks to the requirements for software and computer(s) and necessary equipment for the DYI' ers
Good video Eric. I admit that I jumped on the brake light switch right away and would have been wrong. If you had a paint marker you could have put a 27 on the fuse holder to ID it. Please follow up with a picture of Mrs. O's reindeer when they are finished. That is the kind of stuff that my wife would like to see. Happy Holidays
Like the brake wedge tool it just went on my to make list thanks Eric hope the reindeers don't get loose in the garage while your sleeping could be kind a poopy in the morning .
good fix eric ! I once had to do something like that on a broke terminal on an old dodge alternator wire . Dealer wanted to replace whole wiring harness. Old mechanic said find the right color wire inside the harness , cut the wire up stream and make my own bypass wire , $1.00 fix ! Still working fine 20 plus years later . Thanks for what you do , I always learn something from your videos. How is the new plow working out on your truck and driveway out in the country ?
Hey, I've seen *far* worse repairs -- you actually used a *fuse.* And the correct rating, too! I live in the north Georgia mountains, and there are *many* old pickups running around here with fuses that have been bypassed with paper clips, for crying out loud!
'Yeah, its got a bad fuse box...' Eric, Great video and repair - thank you! I think the repair you did was fine for that vehicle. If you had a 'spare' fuse box kicking around perhaps you could have replaced just the terminals and been able to leave the fuse in the stock location. Im assuming you looked into the CHMSL that was out - bad bulb or ? SMA#1 God bless Paul
Hear the fire response siren in the background. Only the second video where you can hear it. Hope it turn out to be not much. Great job on the brake lights.

good one, a couple of the parabolic mirrors up high on the front and rear wall would work great.
I like that idea

Come to think of it, mirrors in some garages might be a good safety measure.
Will we see the reindeer when they are finished?
I use a really high tech device for checking the brake lights. It's called a brick. Sometimes have to find a larger brick.
I use a jack stand from the trunk to depress the brake pedal.
I've always used a 2x4 wedged between the pedal and front of the seat. If the board is too short, slide the seat up
i always used an ice scraper with the brush. did it for years
Use your snow removal brush against the seat
short old telescopic handle cleaning brush here, put the brush side against seat. also works great for holding the throttle when you need it.
Haha. Best part of the video when Erick looks at the terminals and says "oh".... Great fix man.

If you want real goofy wiring issues where everything seems to be melted, I'd suggest working on mid 80s to mid 90s Fords. What a mess! Good vid for the guy who just wants to get the car back on the road, safetly!
AGAIN NO BRAKE CLEANER??!! FRAK!!!
😂😂😂
Holy cow, Mr.
Sweet!!!!
Well, yeah, that's a good fix sir. Thanks Dr. O and co!
Hey, cheap and its a good, safe solution. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for sharing.
Early birds get a video...keep them coming Eric!
i want a MRS O. reindeer!
As always . way to go Dr. O.
Perhaps because classic Jeeps never stop😘
Love the NY voly fire whistles
Super creative use of screwdrivers !
The master strikes again
As long as it works, who really cares.
The repair fits the age and condition of the vehicle. Done. Price is right. Fix is right.
Love to watch you work but i'm not feeling I could do it too, something my brain is missing,i'm glad here in Texas we have no salt.
Thank you Eric and Mrs O. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Heck Eric I would be frazzled too with the Germans always attacking from above. I admire your dedication in the face of adversity.
Good job Erie, nothing like the old 1-2. Sam
Good job again Eric. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hey, I've seen *far* worse repairs -- you actually used a *fuse.* And the correct rating, too!
I live in the north Georgia mountains, and there are *many* old pickups running around here with fuses that have been bypassed with paper clips, for crying out loud!
Great cheap fix . Thats what he wanted. Great job.
This is the BEST video I have ever watched while sitting on the toilet dropping a deuce.
@j bowers that's the spirit j!
Looks like you do the same thing I do the same thing I do when I'm on the toilet.
A little to MUCH information, not really something we all want to think about, OKAY THEN. Damn
@@anthonybeaudry6066 we all have to 'drop the kids off at the park' at least once a day. YT makes it a more entertaining process.
last good one for me was a Rob Ferretti video...
Thanks that was a big help I just finally changed mine
'Yeah, its got a bad fuse box...'
Eric,
Great video and repair - thank you! I think the repair you did was fine for that vehicle. If you had a 'spare' fuse box kicking around perhaps you could have replaced just the terminals and been able to leave the fuse in the stock location. Im assuming you looked into the CHMSL that was out - bad bulb or ?
SMA#1
God bless
Paul
Unfused = Rawdog. Awesome!
Hear the fire response siren in the background. Only the second video where you can hear it. Hope it turn out to be not much. Great job on the brake lights.
Just saw the WikiBuy ad. For anyone thinking of installing, be aware it introduced additional malware on your platform - that you cannot remove. It's 'free' so it has to make money somehow.
Nice job & a super Merry Christmas to you & your family!
