  • BIKING and the AZORES
    Cycling is a thing on the Azores, so we planned a bike trip from the Southern shore of Sao Miguel to the town located on the north - Ribeira Grande. We also visited Pinhal de Paz, a natural park and stopped at the beach of Santa Barbara.
    By the way, did you know that Sao Miguel currently plays the highest Portuguese soccer league? This is the stadium!
    Then, we also visited the pineapple plantations in Ponta Delgada. Find out some information on the pineapple on the Azores (03:55) it can be a fun activity, if the rain catches you.
    Looking for some other inspiration on what to do in Ponta Delgada? Try to visit the botanical gardens and parks (05:34).
    Then, recently I have visited a park in Furnas, which was opened only in 2020. The park is called Parque Grená (06:43). Then, there is a little sneak peak to one of the most famous parks on the island - Terra Nostra, also in Furnas.
    Do you have any recommendations on which other parks to visit on Sao Miguel?
    Have a great day friends,
    Noemi

    easy to rent bikes in ponta delgada? also this route you did seams really nice, its a 1 day trip right?

    • @noemimikleova
      @noemimikleova  2 роки тому +2

      There are these public bikes which you could rent (it is necessary to download the app) - they are also electric, and downtown there should be a place where you could rent normal bikes as well! Or maybe try to ask your accommodation, some of them have bikes for tourists :) .. and yees, I would say 1 day is okay, since you can stop on the way (also, maybe try to pick a day when it’s not so windy! :)).. there is a really good app with webcams called spotazores, where you can check the weather on different parts on the island, so before you go, check it just in case (because it could be sunny on the south and rainy on the north haha)

      @@noemimikleova My pleasure! 🤗 I have a curiosity for myself, if you know...does mango or papaya grow in the Azores?

    • @noemimikleova
      @noemimikleova  2 роки тому +1

      @@dncviorel so ..I personally have never heard or seen anyone growing mango/papaya . Also, sometimes I go to the local market and I have never seen anyone selling home-grown mango or papaya .. (but I often hear that you could grown anything here, because of the climate). I have seen avocado and passion fruit and many different exotic fruit trees... but specifically mango and papaya, I don't think it's really common to grow it here.. I would be curious though whether it would grow

    • @dncviorel
      @dncviorel 2 роки тому

      @@noemimikleova Very interesting. I know that papaya can't grow where temperature drops below 0 degrees Celsius, so that should not be a problem since Azores it's always on the + side. And mango does tolerate a very small amount of chill hours, and maybe even around 0 degrees, so a bit less pretentious than papaya, but if the mango it's in flowering season, chances are you might lose most of the crop. With that being said...in theory you should be able to grow both mango and papaya, but most likely in specific microclimates (maybe in Santa Maria), as it might be too windy for them in the Azores, generally speaking. And one more thing I'd like to ask...do you think humidity is a problem for house maintenance? Do you have to be extra-careful to avoid mold indoors? I'm also considering Azores as a future home one day, maybe in Santa Maria, as it is warmer, who knows.
