    Mind blown! I've had my Comet Hunter for 8 years and I ldidn't know there were two focuser extensions. Just realized, mine came pre-installed with the long one, and I always thought that it was just a part of the focuser. I would add the short one to get some long focal length eyepieces to focus. I just went and checked and the long one threaded off. I can't tell you what a revelation this is. I can focus my camera!

    Nice video! Is your focuser shorter than a 2" Crawford focuser? That is what I have on my 8" Newtonian telescope that I built and I can't get it in focus @infinity. I have tried prime focus with the 2" T-adapter and a 2X barlow sized down to 1.25". I am thinking my best fix is to move my primary mirror a little more forward or move up to an astrophotography camera, but I don't want to break the bank. Any suggestions?

    Thank you very much for the help!! I have just one question: how do you change de magnification without an ocular?

    • @ldb45
      @ldb45 Місяць тому

      The telescope focal length creates a magnification without an eyepiece. The telescope is pretty much the camera lense.

    People that have a telescope with a 2 inch eyepiece have plenty of options. I dont suppose they make a low profile for a 1.25 eyepiece?

    Very good video, thank you so much. I am trying to decide if this is the right telescope for me. I am a beginner to astro-photography. This telescope seems like it does a good job of both deep sky and planetary. Do you you think it works well for planetary photography? Do you have example photos of the planets or moon?

    Hi Slymin, thanks for posting this instructional video. Helps a lot beginners like myself.
    What mount do you recommend with this scope, for astrophotography? Do you think the Skywatcher HEQ-5 15kg weight rating will be sufficient?
    Thanks a lot.

    Where do you get those extension tubes? Also my Canon 100D has a video capture function but it wouldn't work saying to connect your lens but i have my Skywatcher Dobsonian connected. Is there a way to activate the video capture function without using a regular Canon lens?

    Hi I have a Canon 5d mark full frame and I’m looking for my first good telescope for astrophotography that will work with this camera. I’ve seen celestron telescopes for aps-c but which one will work with a full frame? What detail should I look for to know if it will work with my full frame sensor camera? Thank you

  • @trewhoffman4517
    @trewhoffman4517 6 років тому +1

    Hi Slymin! Love the video. How is your camera modified exactly? You said it was astro modified and with an infrared filter? I’m looking to adjust my camera with some sort of modification(s) so what would you recommend? Maybe a light pollution filter or removal of the current infrared filter?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  6 років тому +1

      It is full spectrum modified, so it is open to the entire spectrum of light, so you put a filter on for the application you want to use it for. When imaging I use a ligh pollution filter, and a Hydrogen Alpha filter. If I want to image in infrared, I use my infrared filter.

  • @panspermiahunter7597
    @panspermiahunter7597 5 років тому +1

    Surely infrared has a different focus point through a telescope than visible light, I am a professional photographer to trade and I am aware when shooting in infrared focus is at a different point and maybe that is why you find those extensions good for you? Maybe?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  5 років тому +1

      Oh yes, IR definitely has a different focal point in a catadioptric telescope, hence why UV/IR cut filters are often used, but the difference in focus isn't drastic.

  • @richardgracews6

    I think your draw tube is protruding into the light path that far in maybe no extension needed? I use my comet hunter with Asi cam so don't know but I don't like that the draw tube can block a large % of aperture. Thanks for your videos as I probably wouldn't own comet hunter without some good vid's to watch! Nice scope have a good one

    Hi Slymin!
    I enjoyed your video very much. I have a somewhat related yet unrelated question. I want to mate my DSLR to a 12 inch kaleidoscope so that i can take photos of the light patterns. So i am not seeking to go as far as the moon …yet. But i do have a Canon APSC Camera with a 50mm Macro lens. My question for you is How do i mate the camera with attached lens to the viewing end of the kaleidoscope?? Because the viewing end of the k-scope does not have a standard threaded end that my camera and lens could be adapted to. But i think i could convince the artist who made my scope to design a new scope with the type of ring or adapter that would mTe properly. Vould you help me think out what i would need to do from your perspective. Thanks so much!! Jerry Eisner

    Many thanks. Very clear vid. Just a question. Using the Canon aps-c. If you telescope focal length is 500mm. Does the camera increase the focal length by 1.6x ?

    • @scottschuette74
      @scottschuette74 4 роки тому

      I don't believe it does. Telescopes are different in the fact you need the eyepiece for magnification. When you attach a camera using this method it is called prime focusing so you need to align the sensor with the focal plane of the telescope. I hope this information helps and is legit (I am kinda new to astrophotography)

    Please explain

  • @connorjones284

    Thanks for the informative video i hadn't thought of changing the extension tube that came with the telescope. Is it possible to obtain focus with a 1.25 inch nose piece. I would prefer not to upgrade as i already have a light pollution filter 1.25 inches. Would having no extension tube be better? It seems like i am very close to focusing and am unsure if it's a focusing issue or a slight collimation issue..

    • @connorjones284
      @connorjones284 4 роки тому +1

      I just checked and actually the scope was out of collimation. Well see if that improves as looking at the photo on the screen the stars look mostly round but zoomed in reveals nightmareish details.

    I have a Nikon D800 a full frame 35mm. I use a Celestron 8SE and am having difficulties obtaining sharp focus through the camera view finder of live view magnified. While it may look focused in the camera the resulting image is not that sharp. I use a remote once the shaking has stopped. I would like to be able to focus through an eyepiece and then remove the eyepiece and place the camera and have the same focus point. Any way of doing that?

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  4 роки тому

      No, the camera sensor and the eyepiece have significantly different focal planes. It sounds like you may benefit from using a motorized focuser on your 8 SE.

    • @davidn8045
      @davidn8045 4 роки тому

      @@AstroBlender I do have a motorized focuser. I guess I just need to figure out whether to push the buttons up or down. Because it is going to be the same direction every time. So I can't just use an extension on the eye piece, which I think would get me closer to the focus point of the camera? But maybe then I would not be able to focus the eyepiece. I don't know still learning as I am a rookie.

    i know this is nothing even slightly related to this video, but i’ve had a celestron 127 slt mak for a while now, and when i look at planets, like mars or saturn, (those are which i’ve tried and had the following problem) when the focus knob is turned all the way to the right or all the way to the left there’s like a white blob with a black dot in it, and i have no clue what the hell it is. when the knob is at a point where i think it’s focused, it looks like an orange skittle the size of a breadcrumb in my field of view. do u know what that whole blob thing is??

    • @Reactordrone
      @Reactordrone 5 років тому +2

      At a guess, when it's heavily out of focus you're seeing the secondary mirror as a black dot in the middle of the unfocused light.

    • @cass6590
      @cass6590 4 роки тому +1

      Hopefully you have figured it out by now, but if focus is good in video and live view, then sounds like your still image is suffering from 'mirror slap' In live view then video the mirror is already up. Try locking the mirror up first then wait 4 seconds and take a picture.

    Is there a way to attach your zoom lense on there? Cause the quality with it is insane and it'd be awesome if they had an adapter for that, that then goes into your telescope. Instead of just blindly using the sensor like that exposed

    For the moon just use a 500mm lens with a doubler and no telscope needed
