- Luxury brands are normally mysterious and one of a kind. But how do they build up dreams and a high reputation among consumers? In this episode, you would understand more about the luxury marketing strategy via my personal analysis based on a book called "The Luxury Strategy".
24 anti-laws of marketing |
1. Forget about positioning; luxury is not comparative.
2. Does your product have enough flaws to give it soul?
3. Don’t pander to your customers’ wishes.
4. Keep non-enthusiasts out.
5. Don’t respond to rising demand.
6. Dominate the client.
7. Make it difficult for clients to buy.
8. Protect clients from non-clients, the big from the small.
9. The role of advertising is not to sell.
10. Communicate to those whom you are not targeting.
11. The presumed price should always seem higher than the actual price.
12. Luxury sets the price; price does not set luxury.
13. Raise your prices as time goes on, in order to increase demand.
14. Keep raising the average price of the product range.
15. Do not sell.
16. Keep stars out of your advertising.
17. Cultivate closeness to the arts for initiate.
18. Do not relocate your factories.
19. Do not hire consultants.
20. Do not test.
21. Do not look for consensus.
22. Do not look after group synergies.
23. Do not look for cost reduction.
24. Do not sell openly on the Internet.

I really enjoyed your video. It was a great reminder for me as a photographer that I have been making the right choice regarding going with my gut instinct to keep my portraits timeless instead of trendy regarding photo editing trends, color grading etc. Fun fact, when I was a high fashion model in my 20's I modeled for Christian Dior and I had my photo made with Bernard Arnault when his company aquired Dior in the early 90s. I was modeling a Christian Dior ensemble to represent Dior and I was posing next to Monsieur Arnault and behind us was a large champagne waterfall as the backdrop which represented another brand his company owns, Moet Chandon. The photo was published in Women's Wear Daily.
GOOD TO learn so many info from a 10 minutes video rather than from Vincent's book.

In recent years I've realized that all this "luxury mindset" is extremely compatible with my personality, and I'm not being a poser, like my natural inclinations, behavior and characteristics are 100% aligned with the idea of luxury and exclusivity. I wish I would realized this before... I'm happy to understand this, this video brings me so much peace, seriously. I'm sure that all this can be applied to a personal brand. Thank you so much for your help. This is actually therapeutic for me.

The psychology of this is quite interesting. But Saks annual revenue is $1.9B while Walmart's is $611B; I guess making luxury goods is a matter of passion and feeling unique.
Interesting really. I think something to take note of when comparing revenue is the type of goods or services offered, one brand might be a luxury good business and the other a necessity good. So luxury brands only need the top 1- 10% of people to buy their good to make the figures you mention whereas, a supermarket services everyone making the difference in revenue a matter of quantity or volume of people by the price ranges.

Really really good video ! A small adjustment or tip for next times would be turning down the background music as at some times it was hard to hear what you were saying, but aside from that this was really good !
