If he had focused on fighting to protect them to the end when goku and Frieza got him off the platform they'd have won the tournament. He is not the best of strategist and seemed to have his priorities out of line. Frieza for all his evil has enough sense to understand he had to work with the z fighters so their universe can win. Jiren didnt seem to want to work with his universe to try and win and only do it himself...his losing had to do with his bad decisions.

@Conrad Lorgar ultra ego is the sole creation of Vegeta. It's a unique destruction form to him and possibly other saiyans. Its properties are different from Toppo's destroyer mode as well. And Beerus can use Ultra instinct. He just hasn't mastered it yet. His mastery is likely at the level of Goku's omen form. Despite that he used ultra instinct to successfully fend off the other destroyers by himself in the manga.

He utilized the God skill of destruction to create his own unique form that has other unique abilities besides destruction. Like the useless ability to get stronger the more he gets hit. That's pointless if you can't take enough hits to surpass your enemy. Since he has a flashy form like Goku's version of Ultra instinct it isn't truly mastered until it can be utilized perfectly without a transformation. Like you said it's natural for destroyers to use destruction and natural for angels to use Ultra instinct. But Goku and Vegeta have their own unique transformations they use to utilize those powers. It was the same for Toppo.

interesting thought/perspective. all the gods jumped beerus and could barely touch him, SSG Goku was able to fight (somewhat) on par with him in a 1v1, and by the TOP saga, was much stronger. gives a better idea of why the other gods were so shocked at goku and vegeta's raw power, since both of them most likely surpassed at least half of the other GODs.
I think belmod smile in the end was because of what the grand priest said “gods will not participate in the tournament” and not because he was hiding, making a strategy or unhurt. That’s my personal opinion but once belmod realized that GoDs will not participate in the tournament, he instantly thought that jiren would carry them during the tournament and no one would be able to stop him especially that his power is superior to that of belmod and now that GoDs are disqualified from the tournament he was so happy cause he thought no one would be able to win against jiren. More detailed personal opinion. I think belmod original plan was to make zeno disqualify all gods from the tournament so jiren can easily win. And he made that plan work by backstabbing sidra when they were focusing beerus which made all GoD go against each other which caused too much chaos and therefore zeno wasn’t happy with the match and decided to disqualify all GoD from the tournament and that’s why belmod was happy when he heard about it and smiled. Even more detailed personal opinion. For people who say belmod was waiting for a chance to attack beerus and quitela. @@ArcVega Beerus wasn't able to really do anything about Black / Future Zamasu, different timelines are out of their hands for some reason, Trunks (with the help of Vegito obv.) did it without Beerus or Whis, and then Future Zeno had to step in and save the entire universes ass from being overrun.

Just goes to show you how week the other universes are. When all of your gods get together 11 on 1 and can't even beat the other God. You would think they would be more parity. Imagine how lucky AKA plot armor Goku and Vegeta are to live in that particular universe.

interesting thought/perspective. all the gods jumped beerus and could barely touch him, SSG Goku was able to fight (somewhat) on par with him in a 1v1, and by the TOP saga, was much stronger. gives a better idea of why the other gods were so shocked at goku and vegeta's raw power, since both of them most likely surpassed at least half of the other GODs.

I think belmod smile in the end was because of what the grand priest said “gods will not participate in the tournament” and not because he was hiding, making a strategy or unhurt.
That’s my personal opinion but once belmod realized that GoDs will not participate in the tournament, he instantly thought that jiren would carry them during the tournament and no one would be able to stop him especially that his power is superior to that of belmod and now that GoDs are disqualified from the tournament he was so happy cause he thought no one would be able to win against jiren.
More detailed personal opinion.
I think belmod original plan was to make zeno disqualify all gods from the tournament so jiren can easily win.
And he made that plan work by backstabbing sidra when they were focusing beerus which made all GoD
go against each other which caused too much chaos and therefore zeno wasn’t happy with the match and decided to disqualify all GoD from the tournament and that’s why belmod was happy when he heard about it and smiled.

For people who say belmod was waiting for a chance to attack beerus and quitela.
Belmod is the only god who DIDNT CARE about winning this fight between GoD and claim the title “the strongest GoD” because there’s no point in it when there’s a mere mortal in your universe who is already stronger than you so he just planned all this out and his plan worked
