Storing a battery at a high state of charge (SoC, fully charged) is bad for your battery life. The calendar ageing is strongly depends on time, SoC, and temperature.
Therefore it is smart, when you dont use your battery for a long time to store it on a low state of charge. You can get more infos here (that's the document I used in the video (mediatum.ub.tum.de/doc/135582...)
Shoutout to David Wernhart, who developed this smart, little program, which will save you money and "oh, my battery is ageing so quickly"-feelings

I'm not affiliated with the program nor the developer. I just want to share this.

Hello, thanks for the breakdown! One question: Do you know if al dente's discharge feature works while the macbook is sleeping/closed?

As I know it's only supported in pro version of AlDente.

No, it just "feeds off" battery when in "discharge" mode. Since you have no real load on the battery in sleeping mode, there's only a minor discharge happening. Hope that helps

Just bought this app for M1 air, works well. Built-in "smart" charge patterns from MacOS doesn't look to work well

Yeah i installed this yesterday on my m1 air too. I only have like 60 charge cycles on it. But i realised yesterday that I mostly use it plugged in at home. So this will prolong the battery for years and years to come.
