This was very entertaining! I like the format of “locations vs comics worth grabbing” Well done!
Why thank you!
@@MintHunterComics what are the top best grading scale does 7.0 count also?
I collect Diecast cars and trucks and Action figures and Comics!!!!!!” And anything else that my family couldn’t afford when I was growing up!!!!!!!? Lol God bless ya all today Shalom
I always ask! Best garage sale find about 2 years ago was a stack that was in the house and brought out in a paper bag after I asked. It had a Green Lantern #1, Richie Rich #1, 1st Bat-Mite and more. Told him I have $37 in my pocket and he said "Sold"! I got home looked them over and went back to his garage sale and gave him a few hundred more. Never been that lucky since, but I keep asking!
Good for you for doing that. Most people wouldn't. I'll bet that he was thrilled you came back.
Good on you for doing that my man, I still haven't haven't has such early golden age or silver luck but I think that's the right thing to do if I ever do
Good work by the OP. I too, would go back, after I had more time to review the books and a provide adore fair price.
I agree with the others. It was a kind thing to have gone back.
Why did you do that. Too nice for your own good. 37 dollar's is enough
Never had a 35 minute video feel like a 5 minute video! Haha was so entertaining! Love it!
Great Job !
This is the type of a Video I like
This was a fun watch. Thank you for sharing!
Based on what I've read, the newsstand copies are more rare in good condition due to the fact that many were sold through non-comic shops, like grocery or department stores and were likely sold to kids or random buyers and more likely were handled with less care than a comic shop and being bought by collectors. So bottom line it's just fewer copies in high grades.
I suppose, funny thing is the newsstand of Secret Wars 1 was more commonly printed that year than the dircet! That's why I'm scratching my head. I suppose people keep better care of direct though
@@MintHunterComics My assumption is it all comes down to the buyers of the newsstand vs the direct copies. The kids buying at the five and dime shop who read the crap out of it, and/or threw it away later on vs the collectors who bought direct or at the comic shop. Even with a larger run for a special release like Secret Wars, I bet there are fewer in decent condition that survived. I know the newsstand copy I bought as a kid is pretty beat up!
also i learned a few weeks back that they made the newstands if not sold torn apart and destroyed . :)
@@MintHunterComics they would destroy the newstand copies if not sold and many kept some on the low also ..mafia? maybe
@@kennynyc1555 You are right. They would rip off the front covers and send them back for a rebate.
"No regerts".. words to live by.
Absolutely
Great days driving and looking friend thanks for sharing great books.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hit about 10 yard sales last week when I was down visiting my folks. No comic books (though I didn't ask). Went to one last week where the family bought abandoned storage units. Didn't see any comics, but asked, and was told they had just acquired some boxes. The husband had set those aside, and he was not home currently, so I gave my contact info. Haven't heard from them, so I may swing by this weekend to follow up.
Hopefully you get the follow up call man! there could be some goods in there
GREAT STUFF!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!❤😂🙏🫶👍❤️
Mr. T pittys the fool who doesnt buy his sprinkler
HAhahahahahahahahahahahaha
Nice touch with the Coke in the goblet there at the end.
I had a good time watching you shopping. Buying comic books in the wild. I haven't had so much fun watching somebody doing it . Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That looked like fun
It WAS!
High grade newsstand books from the late 80's and up and both shorter print and condition sensitive, thats why folks are willing to pay more for them slabbed in high grade , especially really good stories, because you know they were likely read and reread and got beat up. The newer the newsstand, the shorter the print count so the rarer it is to fine a high grade copy. But from 85 and earlier, newsstand should not mean anything, but since there are so many uneducated collectors out there, some still demand the same premiums .
Actually as CGC data and eBay surveys are bearing out, newsstand does/will increasingly hold a premium for all decades because the majority of buyers were not collector-savvy and did handle them with care and bag and board them; most buyers at comic shops (direct editions) were.
Those Carnage covers were awesome to see, I love watching people find cool comics out in the wild. Great video.
I appreciate that Henry, it was ablast doing this vid
You have my favorite issue of ROM , #50.👍
Great to watch and you’re right, Always Ask, you just never know!
You got that right!
Amazing finds! People in my town just not that cool. I'm 0-9 finding comics at yard sales.
Sometimes I'm 0-40 - you still gotta get out there and check!
Dope come up
I appreciate that man
Absolutely insane!! What an amazing haul.
I agree with you regarding seeing comics stored in a way that a real collector would NOT do. So, seeing comics with no boards, no bags could be a GREAT sign. The best sign is when comics are in tubs, shoe boxes, tomato crates, etc... 😂
Hahaha you're so right - I get excited when I see crappily stored comics cuz that means they probably don't know what they have
@@MintHunterComics I have the same DNA as you my friend, hahaha.
Great great great video very entertaining 🔥🔥
Great video, very entertaining! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jim!
Very nice haul!
Wow those are some really great finds!
Thanks yo!
I remember seeing the water sprinkler on Comic Book Men lol. Tell ‘em Steve-Dave!
No way! I'll have to check it out
This was amazing, great hauls!
Glad you enjoyed!
What a great video. One man's junk is another man's treasure I always say. Great finds
You got that right!
Awesome video as always, definitely going to start looking for more yard sales now
You should!
Good lick!
Thanks!
This was awesome thanks....
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another awesome video, very informative with current pricings! You are now my favorite comic book content creator here on UA-cam. Thanks for the vids and keep up the great work!
Appreciate that! that's the highest level of compliment!!! Cheers
Lol, I love the coke and manequin celebration at the end 🤣
Hahaha I'm glad you caught that
Damned straight. Found Hulk 181 in 6.5 for $15, Star Wars #1 9.4 for $25 in the past year.
Wow! That blows these finds out of the water!
Good vid, specially that "smoke a cigar".
Always - I'm a big cigar guy
@@MintHunterComics Like minds. Good stuff.
I yard sale shop every week, and have found some killer bools. But you definitely have to ask every time if they have any comics they wanna sell. Great video man!
Great finds! Would've loved to have gotten that last Batman box, great price for a big run like that.
Someone's pride and joy probably from years of collecting. That was very cool to find
Another great video James. Very cool finds. It is interesting how some books have a huge premium for newsstand copies while others don't. I think for the most part it is books with huge print runs like the Secret Wars books, Spawn #1 & #9, key GI Joe & Transformers books etc. Basically all the stuff that I grew up liking. lol. I noticed that you are up to 7.22k subscribers. That's awesome man!
Thanks for watching! and yeah any newsstands after 84/85 are more valuable (but not necessarily before!) I guess I'm jsut not sure how Secret Wars 1 cgc 9.8 newsstand is worth $1,500 whereas the direct is only $350? strange...
Very nice video really enjoyed it
That was an excellent video👍 I like those videos of people finding awesome comics in the wild!
Glad you enjoyed!!!!!!!!!!
If you didn't know... The super rare and ultra valuable whitman books have some common elements... 40 cents each, no UPC window at all, and the title above the whitman logo in the top left is *center* justified.
I've done a small video on my channel about Whitmans, always fun finding those
@@MintHunterComics Can't find it, what's it titled?
good stuff
Thanks iceman!
This was a great video James! You racked up some nice scores!! 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏼
More to come!
Nice scores! I really gotta try some yard sales.
Wait til you see today's video!
That swamp thing find was awesome
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it Luke!!!
Haha, I recognize that flea market! The Golden Nugget!! And Cyborg One comics in Doylestown is awesome too. Hint-Go next door to Empanada Momma for the best empanadas ever. Cheers.
Yassss! glad you know the area! I LOVE Cyborg One!
Yard sales, flea markets and antique shops are all on my go to list. My best purchases have come from these. I still hit the local comic book stores in my area but only with a purpose in mind.
I also have an idea for you. I came across an older article while looking up ASM 238 and FF 252. I was surprised to find out that Lakeside Tatooz were in other books as well that month but on a lesser scale.
I actually didn't know that about the tattoos, and yes garage sales is where it's at
In regards to comics you do by far the best pick up videos. Really enjoyed that. Hopefully you do more in the future:)
Thanks, will do! more of these in the future!
Great concept for a video. I hardly ever find any comics at yard sales, but asking if they have any if you see none is the way to go.
It's really a must!
lol at the Hail Hydra at the beginning
Glad ya caught that!
Way to stick with it!! Even through the hangover!!!! Hahahahaha
Powering through!
There is hundreds of these sales per summer in my area. Looks like I'm gonna have to start doing this!
Gotta get out there and get hunting!
@@MintHunterComics yes sir! 😁
Finally, after you teased this I couldn't wait. 🤘🤘
Thanks for popping back to catch the vid Aadil!
This was a fantastic video. Really enjoyed it
Thank you very much!
Great video. That Batman run was an epic find.
I think so too!
James! This was great. I’ve been back in the collection game for about 8 months and have bought almost exclusively at flea markets, antique malls, and I successfully scored at one yard sale. You don’t know if you don’t look. Thanks for the content.
You really don't! and you HAVE to ask "Do you have comics?"
@@MintHunterComics , my one yard sale score came because of a post I put on FB Marketplace about my interest in buying comics. I was lucky enough to score (funny enough) Daredevil 9 myself for a ridiculous price. It’s at CGC now, so I should have it back in 6 or 7 years. 😊
Brilliant vid and great results, well done James 👍 Those blue statues are weird tho! 😱
Hahaha who knows what I'll do with those
I need to give this a try
Do it!
In the late 90s, i went to a local used book store and someone had sold them their huge collection of IMAGE comics and some X-men tittles. Everything was HALF cover price, my young self sold all my old CDs, books, begged my parents for cash so I could pick up as many as I could. What an awesome day that was!
Wow talk about pay off! that's quite the win man! especially since there's hardly any value in CDs!
Really enjoyed this video, nice picks you made.
I have never had any luck finding books at garage sales!☹️ But I hear good stories all the time!!👍
Just gotta get out there and try!
Great pickup!
I think so too!
That Batman box was a steal.
Indeed. The cherry on top!
that 3rd Moon knight appearance is not bad either. nice scores
oops my bad, thought that was 37 and not 39, still any Brother Voodoo right now is a score.
Swamp Thing 37 for a dollar?! Amazing pickup
What a delicious haul. That Batman long box at the end...wtf!
That was just icing on the cake
Oh man!! That long box was a good find! 💯
Hey, if you ever feel like throwing out that Batman 608, I'd happily take it 😅😅😅
Hahahaha I'll let you know
Such a pleasant vid to watch while morning breakfast…thanks dude!
Glad you enjoyed my friend!
Some great finds here dude good stuff
Thanks so much!!!!!
Nice finds! Love that Secret Wars #1. Makes me want to go out and hunt for some books. Pretty hard since I'm in NYC.
True, this was a very country video! Hahaha
@@MintHunterComics Once this pandemic calms down, I might take a weekend to hit Upstate NY or PA and see if I can get lucky. It seems like that's where the action is. Also be good to go for a drive out in the Country! Hahaha. Pretty dry in my LCS here. Going to a Con this weekend, maybe I'll get lucky there first. Enjoying your videos! Thanks!
Some of my most favorite comics in my collection have come from yard sales.
Awesome adventure! Congrats on the Batman super score!
Thanks a bunch!
New stand covers go for so much more cause it's harder to find mint copies. Newstands get touched by everybody and the spines always end up creased and The corners get bent.
I just found a swamp thing at my lcs today and they wanted 50 for it. Was a easy decision for me. It looks to be a 7.5 or 8.0 and I only remembered that book because of this video! Awesome job man these videos have helped me be on the lookout for certain books
Nice month.
That was fun. Would love to see more of these. Interesting that the guy only had 1 box of Batman and nothing else. Even if he was strictly a Batman collector seems like he would have had some Detectives as well.
Oh he did, I should have mentioned, but it wasn't detective it was superman
@@MintHunterComics man u got even beat copy man i need swamp thing one bad!!!! reader since 1982 top 5 3 marvel, 2 dc batman n swampy obviously, if not ...get it....
Batman #550 is first Cameron Chase, FYI. In case she gets in the movies…
You are so calm sounding, I sit there happily listening and then the ear piercing checkmark sound comes on
I grew up just down the street from Rices and loved going there as a kid. Unfortunately it is not the same now and there's not much there anymore.
Man it's really not! It's so different from what I remember...
Another great vid
Thanks my man!
There was one book right at the beginning of that long box that I need to complete a very solid run of about 250 books from pre-Norm Breyfogle to Kelley Jones to Scott McDaniel to Jim Lee's run on Batman. I have been so close to finding one in the wild, but it's eluded me. Haha. Nice box for $250 though. That Kelley Jones run is great. I met John Beatty a few years back and he signed a ton of those books for me.
Wow that must have been awesome to meet him! huge Kelley Jones fan here...
I dont have the patience for these kinda hunts, but I love watching um!
And you NEED PATIENCE in order to do this - you might go to 50 yard sales without finding anything! it's all in the patience
As someone who doesn’t live in the states…. this was also kind of a cultural experience 😂
Hahahahaha that's so interesting to hear lol
Wdym? Do y'all not have yard sales?
@@wowisntitanamazinglyamazin9550 Not at all common in the UK. We do have car boot sales which are normally organised area, where you drive you car to, open the boot/trunk even, and set up a table or two, pretty much like a fly market I would guess. I always like going to yard sales when I am in the states it is quite fascinating sometimes. Greetings from Scotland :)
You have a lot of patience, I would have packed it in after day 1!
It took I think 9 or 10 locations to have my first score!
Garage sailing/Flea markets is literally the only way I hunt for comics. I don’t always get the highest grades or the major silver age keys (though I do have a very nice collection of both), but I get a lot of things from my waitlist and almost exclusively $2 or under. Too many collectors act like it’s not worth the hunt, but it’s definitely the best way to get great deals.
Also, I’d grab some cheap or cool masks or something for the mannequins. I have a cool Venom mask and CW Flash I got both for $5 from Hot Topic and have been looking for mannequins like that for them
It really is the best way, sadly it has such a low success rate but worth it
Very cool video. Great Batman find on the last day. But, what did we all learn? Never go comic book hunting with a hangover.
Honestly that is the realest takeaway hahaha
Vnice, the Swamp Thing #37 is definitely a highlight, typing as I am 14 mins in, the RR #1 also is decent. See the Secret Wars #1 first beyonder too well before it is arriving from the right hand side of cover peaking out, and the daredevil #9 first echo for 50$ is a complete steal, I just bought one of those last week. 404 & 423 McFarlane being picked out of the batman was a pity, but buying that whole run for 250 was a great purchase, just the keys and smaller keys along are your cash there ! Cheers for the awesome exciting journey. Greetings from Scotland :)
Great vid- I’m in Australia and it’s few and far between you can find a good deal but years ago when eBay first launched I bought a few collections real cheap and got my bargains that way, can’t do that now but back in the 90’s early 2000’s it was good. I was literally looking at my secret wars 1 in a box when you found yours at the garage sale, very cool.
Thanks for sharing!
Great show James ‘ hail hydra’
Hahaha thanks man (and nice catch!)
Dang, son. I have NEVER found comics at a yard sale. And I've looked. I always ask, "Do you have any comics?" And they always look like I'm dumb for asking that lol. Great haul, dude.
Hahaha I assure you that happens most of the time loloo
James this channel is incredible!
Hahahaha thanks my man!!!
I went hunting at yard sales here in Missouri. Total strike out lol
I think it has to do with the state as well I struck out here in Oklahoma.
For whatever reason PA and NY have a big yard sale culture
Nice finds. I found an Invincible Iron Man 7 and 9 at a store for a dollar apiece. That would be my best finds in the wild.
Those are GREAT ones to find for sure!
I have green lantern , Superman , batman, and many more. Everything is baged and boarded. I will sell 150 comics. I also have a lot of old comics that are in mint condition.
Nice! you selling?
Boy I need to go where you live. All the yard sales in my town are flooded with baby clothes and useless geegaws. Nice pick ups. Really liked the Swamp Thing pick up and Werewolf by Night with Brotherhood of Voodoo appearance. Keep the videos coming!
Sorry to hear that - I seem to be in a pretty good area! I also always liked upstate new york
Your area is actually pretty good. I am just outside of your stomping grounds to the north. It's good. But I like that area as well. My kid goes to college in upstate NY. Yes I've hit up there as well.
I appreciate the sandwich b roll
