Awesome video!! Have wanted to make these for years but couldn’t figure out the 60 degree safely lol. Thx so much. Been out of woodworking for awhile but you just inspired me!! I would paint chamfer gold & stain or vice versa.
Question: could you use CA glue to hold these together while waiting for the glue to dry? This would easily allow for a double sided star if so. And, also, can you do a video showing the easiest way to paint these cleanly?
Yes CA glue would work well too. I show that in this video. ua-cam.com/video/ksD9o4yoG5E/v-deo.html I can also try and do a video about how to paint them as well. Thank you for the questions.
Thanks for the UA-cam demo. I do notice that you have Hercules saw, however, your link takes you to Amazon and DeWalt miter saw. What model Hercules do you have as mine only goes to 52. Thanks
Thank you for updated link. I did have another look at your video and noted that your mitre station was to the right of center. I looked on the right side of the degree gauge and saw 60 degrees on the scale. I was a numbskull and only looked on the left side, as it was the easiest to see at that time. Just recently got the saw, so still learning on it. The 6 pointed star will be first unit, followed by the 5 point. Thanks again.
@@cedarriverwoodworking thanks for replying with Hercules link. It was my bad, I only looked at left side scale, saw 45 and assumed it was same on right side. I went back to my unit and looked at right hand scale and saw 60degree position. Still learning the intricacies of the mitre saw, which your videos are helpful with. My first projects will be the 5 and 6 point stars. Thank you.
@cedarriverwoodworking make sure your 45s are accurate. The parallelograms really can be any length. I have found symmetry is best achieved when your length is the rough width of the board. I usually use 1x4s to make them, so after cutting my first 45, I measure 4 inches and make my cut. I cut a 1x3 to the same 4 inches and it looks more like a cross than a star. I attach the pieces together using pocket holes just like you do, but I do add glue.
@cedarriverwoodworking All the edges, even the inside ones. I tried a few different router bits on the edges in fact, but the round over seems to look the best. (to me, anyway). A regular straight bit is nice too, because you could paint the "petals" and then router the edges exposing bare wood. For some reason that looks best on the five pointed stars.
@@robertsmith3518 lol, I have family in Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Long story but I had to make a harrowing trip to Cedar Rapids to get a used gas tank after mine got a hole BURNED into it..

This is the first 6 pointed star video I've seen. UA-cam suggested I should watch your video so I obliged.
I hope you like it.
It's great that you start so early. These are good ideas for the German Christmas market. Thanks for that 😊👍
I was thinking that I got the videos out a little early but my Halloween supplies aren't here yet. Thank you for the support.
@@cedarriverwoodworking Everything has to be cut, glued and painted, so starting early is mandatory 👍👍

I'm glad I could help. You'll have to shar how you project goes. I appreciate the support.
Thanks for sharing, great video!!
I appreciate the support.
Thank you. Really nice little project to go along with your tree build.
Absolutely it is. In the plans for the tree I have a 5 pointed star included.
Good job and video thanks for sharing and the info I really like to paint the stars red and green Keep building
Thank you. I really appreciate the support.
I would paint the champers black and every other petal red then green. Christmas stars! 🎄
The black would really give come contrast. I like it.

Nice project and well presented. 👍 Edit: Red and Silver or Gold, I think.

Are those chamfers 45 Deg?
Yes
I make 8 point barn stars, most of then I stain red and use blonde shellac on my chamfered edges
I am working on making some 8 point stars now. Any tips?
I bet there really look awesome

@@mdubz727 Thank you so much for the explanation.
I painted my star. Weather gray and edge red
I've made these before except I like to use a 1/4 round over on the edges. Makes it look more 3D, I think
I like that idea. Just on the outside?

Vertices are what the parts of a re star are called if my geometry memory from 1962 is correct . Unless of course it’s not . Great video
I think that's where the lines meet. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it a lot.
You’re probably correct ,it’s been 60 plus yrs ago I had geometry. Anyway ,it’s a great video ,thanks !
Vertices are simply corners, where edges meet. 😊
Glitter! 😊
Glitter is ALWAYS a good option.
Star weather gray and red edge
I like it.
I saw the big star video first. I think i would just call the pieces points instead of petals.
I like that suggestion. thank you for the feedback.
Hercules Miter.....Ja!
It has done me well for years.
Chingaderas
Technically it does have a name but The six-pointed star is also known as the hexagram, Star of David, or Shield of David (Magen David)
