I now understand why a former friend always complained about getting headaches from wearing wigs. I assume he hooked the hooks together as well. Meanwhile I don't use the hooks most of the time cause I just pin the wig to my own hair with bobby pins.
I thank you for admitting your faults so that those of us who also did not know can now NOT go fifteen years of cosplaying without knowing this. That makes so much more sense….
I currently give beginner wig styling lectures at cons in my country and this is something I tell about! I go over the "anatomy" of a wig. It's something that never really occured to me that people wouldn't know, as I've been cosplaying for almost 10 years with special interest in wigs specifically. I think it's important to really start at the very basics as useful information like this can easily be overlooked!
This is the first warning of the day when all the wigs are released. The hair will flood the streets, the sun will be blocked out, all shall be submitted to a dark reimagining of Horton Hears a Who. Dark days are upon us all.
Same, I think this is the main reason people don't understand why people didn't know this. It's not judgmental, we just don't understand how the logic didn't transfer over when those clips are otherwise used pretty much only on bras that have the exact same slots. When our brains saw the clips, we automatically looked for the slots. Maybe a lot of people not understanding didn't use bras? Idk lol
I only cosplayed for about three years when I was a teenager and I will tell you that no matter how you clip them in, they will wiggle themselves free eventually. I think I figured this out because at the time I still acknowledged having chesticles and compared it to a bra.
I knew this. It's how I tighten wigs for my friends. For myself, I always put the clips together, especially for long, heavy wigs. It's just easier that way.
As someone a little newer to the wig game, I'm sorry it took you so long to realize that. When I first learned that and securing it with Bobby pins they almost became comfortable yet way too warm hats lmaooo
I only just started wearing wigs regularly last October and wear them all the time now but I had no idea how to use those straps so I just haven't been using them at all lol. Rip
I would be very aware before buying anything used for the hair. We don't know if the seller sanitises their wigs properly, hair infections and diseases are not a joke. I had heard many cases of cosplayers who bought used wigs and latter went to the doctor with lice, dermatosis etc.
I FOUND IT! I’ve been looking for this video for so long, I remembered seeing it but didn’t remember what the clips were for! Just got my two wigs for my first cosplays in 8 years, glad I can use this to start out strong.
ngl, i bought a wig that didn’t need styling on purpose and i saw the slots and guessed what they were for but clipping the clips together probably works for people with small heads. i don’t use them at all cuz if i do my head hurts way more than normal
I’ve been cosplaying for three years and knew this from the very beginning because whenever I buy wigs, it’s not from Amazon it’s not from online it’s from my local wig shop and when I bought my first one, they showed me everything about wigs!!
Oh! I never knew this! Thank you for showing me this it will be so much more helpful for me, I never even noticed those little straps where you could put the hooks in
The temptation to say I'm relatively new to cosplay when I've been cosplay for well over a decade now, haha, i never understood why people didn't use the notches. I knew a lot of veteran cosplayers when i was younger and saw them use this technique often and thought i was doing something wrong by using the notches. Interesting how little things can be missed easily, lol.
I’ve only used cheap wigs and I for a second was like “shit you’re supposed to clip them together???” 😭 then immediately realized I actually somehow knew it right
Been a seasonal coser for 7 years. 3 years since I started, whenever I borrowed or rented a wig, my first instinct was to hook the ends together just like you and everyone else here. I even had to force myself to wear the wig even if it’s already giving me headaches and itchiness throughout a 8-hour cosplay event. (Please don’t be like me ahahahaha). Until I was taught the right way to use it 😂 I realized that I might be the dumbest person on earth
I Js started cosplaying and I was so confused when I saw people not using the little slots and I was like “well maybe I’m doing it wrong?” And this just validated me so hard😂
Also my friend taught me that when styling wigs you can clip those under the mannequin head? I’ve been cosplaying for almost 4 years and just learned this 😭😭😭
I was the opposite for a while, I didn’t know those straps were for sizing the wig at all! I though maybe they were to hang them up or store them, like those thin bands on strapless dresses. Wasn’t until I had to spot clean a wig that I noticed the little loops that the straps hook on to.
I don't think people are trying to be judgmental, those snaps are just really commonly used with bras where they have little slots for them, so I think it was thought that people would look for those. It's pretty known that anytime you see this type of clip there's a slot accompanying it because it's open on one end and isn't the style that slides together then flattens. Clipping it this way is not technically fully secure which is why people are confused that people didn't look for slots instead of clipping them together lol. It's also wild that people just go ahead and do things without looking up a tutorial after thinking "this can't be right" lol
Wow, I don't know how but I only cosplayen once in my life recently and I instantly, knew that I had to use these slots. I can't remember whether I figured it on my own tho, or whether I watched a video.
please see my follow up video before you yell at me ua-cam.com/video/J_Gy7Hi1I28/v-deo.html

After watching this video, I need a moment to cry in my room for not noticing this.

I need to cry instead for not able to cosplay
@@Hidenidentity same...too much money to cosplay properly.....

I’ll be honest I thought everyone knew about this 😆
Never too late to learn!
Right!
Same, I thought it was common knowledge lol
True that, learn something new every day and it could be so simple too
how😭
Same but it’s probs because my sister got me into cosplay and she’s like an expert about wigs so ya

Thank you for this!🙏😎
This is so funny 🤣. I think I only knew how the clips work because I have bras that have similar clips for the shoulder straps.

My mind just blew up.
clipping them together can actually break them easier!!! thank you for spreading this i really wish more people knew😅
I'm actually surprised that this many people didn't know this 😂😅
Oh my god.. THATS WHY MY WIGS ARE ALL SO TIGHT 😭😭😭
I feel proud lol
i've been cosplaying for about a year and knew this (but i also have access to youtube and tutorials, unlike 15 years ago)
ya UA-cam didn't exist back then 😂
@@zeekayart It did. It existed for about three years. It was founded in early 2005 and 15 years ago would only be 2008.
as a young cosplayer rhis was great to know im working on my beidou wig and its easier to work on now. I appreciate this thank you

I’ve just started cosplaying and I didn’t know this so thank you😊
.. YOU MEAN, I DIDN'T JUST HAVE A BIG ASS HEAD?
nope 😂
LMAO. honestly this is hilarious I noticed this when I got a kakyoin wig a few years ago
I didn't know people would link the clips together like that. When I got my first wig, my first thought was to use the slots.
i have that same pastel blue one. not the one you where showing but the second one you showed
Lmfao you thought you're supposed to clip them together? That's so funny omg I can't-
I HAVE BRUISE CUS THEY ALWAYS POPPED OFF SO THANK YOU FOR TEACHING ME THIS
As soon as you said the straps that got together I was like noooo 😭
Lol i thought this at first too😂. I just happened to find random wigs family members had and like any normal person ofc has to put them on
Im glad i learned this sooner than later tbh

how did i just realize this, thanks for enlightening me😭
Wtf I used to tuck those clips under my wig caps 💀💀💀
It makes so much sense now- lmao
Bought the same wig for Halloween. Not a cosplayer, but noticed immediately lmao.

I only ever wore ONE wig and i noticed that function immediately
I feel like a God rn... I got a long wig for a cosplay and not only is it silky and not tangled at all but I instantly figured out the hooks.
You’ve been doing this longer than I’ve been alive 😭
Lmao, I have a mha shinsou wig and I almost immediately noticed that the clips were supposed to go in the slots
OMG SAME I THOUGHT THAT TOO😂🤣😭
i started cosplaying around 2020 and i noticed it from the start lol, but its never to late to learn anything!!
it took me a year to discover that there were even hooks to make it more tighter, thank you for saving me another decade for discovering this one XD
See, now that makes sense. I always wondered why my wig tried to slingshot itself of my head when connecting them. 😭
I knew but the first method was more convenient for me lmao
OMG TY FOR THIS, I've been wearing my wigs wrongly all this time❤😂
I just got my first wig for my komi cosplay foe halloween a few weeks ago and i realised that the strings were there thanks to this vid i know now

At least you clipped them together 😭 I just tucked them into the back because I didn’t know what they were for
I first thought that you just attach the clips to your wig cap until I finally realized the right way to do it. So yes I used to do it wrong too.
Omg people clipped them together 😂it didn’t even cross my mind to do that!
