- The coronation anthem "Zadok the Priest" (HWV 258), by George Frideric Handel, performed on original instruments by the NDR Chor and the FestspielOrchester Göttingen, Laurence Cummings, direction. Live, HD video from the Göttingen Handel Festival, June, 2014.
The coronation anthems were composed by Handel for the coronation of King George II in 1727; the text is based on 1 Kings 1:38-40:
Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anointed Solomon King.
And all the people rejoic'd, and said:
God save the King! Long live the King!
May the King live for ever,
Amen, Allelujah.
A recording of the coronation anthems and choruses from Handel's oratorio Esther is available on CD worldwide:

Beautiful performance! First time I've ever heard the oboes at 3.34!
Same here
Yes, not overbearing with a massive choir and orchestra. Just right !
What a wonderful recording and performance. Thank you.
Wonderful work! Lovely to see at least 4 members of Voices of Music playing!! Such fine playing.
Schitterende muziek, altijd weer en voor mij erg leuk hier tegelijk in het orkest mensen van VoM te herkennen. Thanks a lot !
Absolutely love this version!
This was glorious
I enjoy myself
I am really elevated in my spirit
Speechless!!!SIMPLY OUT OF THE BOX RENDITION..!!
Me fascina, es una avalancha melodiosa que va del mínimo a la cúspide. Realmente da la sensación de estar en la coronación de un rey o reina.
Ese era el objetivo y handel lo cumplio al 100%
Absolutely magnificent .... the voices reach upto the heavens! Thank you so much for uploading. 😊❤️
Our pleasure!
I love this channel! I think it is the best one there is for music. You guys should do the "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" by Handel! I would love to hear that piece played by you!
It's on our list!
Great! I look forward to hear it! You guys have the best videos and the music is so in tune! Even better than most orchestras i know! You should be proud!

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely splendid!
Really good as ever; particularly impressed with the correct English diction - the final Amen with an open English ‘Ah-men’ rather than an American English ‘Ay-men’ for example is just as important as the correct pronunciation of Italian or German.
Thanks so much!
Magnífico!!!
This sound is the original! Thanks for share!
Makes your feet tap! Now you see why Beethoven said that Handel was the greatest composer ever. Not sure exactly how many took part in the first performance, but it was the Victorians who had the massive orchestra and choirs. Nor do we know exactly if he preferred orchestra or organ setting. Ths performance is stunning and thanks for sharing.
Mozart was the first to arrange and enlarge forces for Messiah.
úžasné, fantastické...♥♥♥
Beautiful!
Great composer great orchestra great choir
Agree!
I dearly hope that King Charles III will honor the traditional music of his nation and that Zadok the Priest has a key place in his own Coronation.
He did!
@@roverchap Yes, it held a proper and prominent place. I was disappointed though that William Walton’s Crown Imperial was not to be heard, at least on what was televised. From what I could see of the program, I believe the guests in the Abbey heard the piece while all coverage was outside on the procession to Westminster.
SUPERB! SPLENDID PERFORMANCE BY THE CONDUCTOR....
Stunning!
wow!!!! Thank you all!
É simplesmente maravilhoso.

What is the keyboard instrument being played by the woman in the center?
Organ
Excellent... Am I the only one wondering where they have hidden the percussionist??
He's between the bass and the trumpet, you can see him holding the sticks at 0:49 for example.
@@VoicesofMusic aha!! Saw him, thanks :)

laurence cummings!!!!
Indeed!
So is this the Voices of Music big band?
We're reaching out to some of the other top early music ensembles to film some of their amazing concerts; the FOG--Festival Orchestra Goettingen--is legendary :)
One of the musicians of Voices of Music is in that orchestra.
The FestspielOrchester Göttingen has several musicians that also perform with VOM; it's an international orchestra. More info here: www.haendel-festspiele.de/en/about-us/festspielorchester-goettingen/index.html
I recognise at least 3 from the regular gang. Hanneke van Proostdij, Gabrielle Wunsch and Elizabeth Blumenstock
@@philipandrewlabriaga262 there are 2 ;-}
Phew! I've never seen a conductor jumping around so much. Why does the lady cellist have a glass of orange juice by her right foot at 2.50? Prost!
That's a box of tissues. The musicians play so beautifully people cry.
Exhilarating
I am Japanese. I would like to hear Zadok the priest, which is also the coronation anthem, in England. Will there be any concerts?
Maybe someday--it is difficult to arrange visas for the UK.
Absolutely marvellous!
