Irvine Welsh has said himself that he called it Trainspotting because only trainspotters can understand why they spot trains. To everyone else it seems boring and pointless, just like heroin use to people who dont take heroin.
Iain Stewart It's also to do with Leith Central Station. When it was shut down, junkies used to use it as a hangout and it also represented how Leith had been cut off.
but its actually to do with the veins on ur arm after shooting up heroin. They go darker and u call it traintracks, which leads to Trainspotting
but actually it's something to do with a scene in the book where they all stand near the train tracks and piss on the trains as they go past.
Friedmansam, you're fucking stupid. Trainspotting has nothing to do with track marks. It's about waiting at Leith Central Station for a train that's never going to come; a high that you'll never get again. It's a direct quote from Begbie's father, the original Trainspotter. Read a fucking book and educate yourself .
The sweat wis lashin oaf of Sickboy
"Maybe life is just a series of hits, just to pass the time."
WHOA DUDE. WHOA.
+dunnowy123 The philosophical one-liners in the series are great!!
Dennis Leary said something similar
sonofkabisch if Leary said it, I expect bill hicks said it first.
You can waaaatch Trainspotting here twitter.com/bab64f69ae40a1e7d/status/850530186789478401
dunnowy123 lol same here
This is seriously one of my favorite movies ever
Mine too
A masterpiece
Well and mine too...
Except when that baby dies, and comes back during the flashback.🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢
I honestly love both films they got me reading the books and unsurprisingly I love them too 😍
Fun fact, at the time of distribution, the company in charge of distributing Trainspotting was owned by Disney.
I somehow don't see the potential for the next Disneyland ride in this...
Perfect Day.
Heroin Toilet Water Park was just not an idea that sounds like it would get off the ground...
You're shot into the air in an unrelenting high,
then plunged into It's A Small World.
a lot of things are owned by Disney tbh
Only if it's got the baby......for The kids
I'm glad you clarified that a train is a Starship but way shitier. I almost got worried there, otherwise the whole analysis of the movie would've been debunked.
This is my FAVORITE MOVIE. I'm so glad you decided to choose this one
Corey Freer Bad ass
Corey Freer is this a great movie I want to watch?
"later, when renton overdoses, the scene is scored by lou reed's 'perfect day', a song about a pretty good day"
"A Train is like a Starship, only way shittier".
An obsession with school girls, a sentiment shared by earths entire male population.
*Nods*
+aldo bonzi shut up kim jong un you have a nuke fetish
it's not about underaged girls, it's about the uniform... i mean, wha t would you expect, if we all went through our puberty while surrounded by schoolgirls? this is one way fetishes form...
peado
For the most part, sex was and is the ultimate goal for guys to do in life. Women, on the other hand, knows this and some of them are totally using it to their advantage as part of perfecting their skills to be a real woman and consequently is the shit that keeps us the way we are... Now, some of the men, the straight and gay men are doing it too. lol (I wonder where this is going... Sex is actually the main addiction and the rest are just consequential damages).
Vincent Vega Well, you DO understand that for all females sex means something else, right? Males (mammals at least) don't get pregnant, don't have to deal with several months of not being able to hunt for food, or fend off predators. They don't have to spend a substantial amount of time raising and feeding their kids.
Some, however, do it, because if a kid comes along, it's their offspring, their blood.
Because of the time and effort it takes to raise a human our brains evolved to develop bonds and create families. That's why people fall in love, in order to WANT go stay together while the kids grow up. Contraceptives are relatively recent things compared to how long humans have been around, so even though we can have sex minus the pregnancy our brains still work as they did hundreds of thousands of years ago. So it's a biological impulse for men to want sex (news flash, women want it too, if you're doing it right) and women usually want an assurance the guy will stick around for a while. Using biology to justify casual sex is very innacurate, mate...
Wow. Never saw the Rock Album connection.
Thnx Wisecrack!
Good stuff, loving this new series.
Could you do Silence of the Lambs next?
This has been my favorite EC. Actual analysis with the alien humor sprinkled throughout.
I really loved this episode! It was kind of deep, used symbols and motives, related to cinematography, and was humorous on top! Keep going, I'm starting to like this show more and more.
Attempting to quantify how good this series is would be doing it a disservice.
This show just keeps getting better and better.
Definitely one of the movies that helped me overcome my drug addiction over a decade ago. Any chance you'll cover Requiem For A Dream?
Could you do an episode about Star Wars or Star Trek?It would've been cool seeing an intersteller civilization analyzing fictional civilization we created in the past and making comments about how accurate or false it is.
That's actually amazing.
A very good idea!
+Name check out trekpertise
brwi1 Cool channel, thanks.
And then, for an encore, do Galaxy Quest.
The writing in this series is magnificently intelligent.
Former failed dragon slayer here. Your videos normally elicit the involuntary response of laughter but this one has me doubled over doing so! Closing statements nearly killed me as this has to be close to the 10th video of yours in the last hour I've watched. You certainly deserve a subscribe before a "good day sir!" (Human day 24hours)
That was a realy great review ^^
Would be awesome if you could review Donnie Darko too
Would you guys consider Broke Back Mountain for a future episode?
Sure, great movie
Was so sceptical about this series. It's turned out brilliantly, fits the channel perfectly
Who else is stoked about the sequel coming?
Vincent Comte fuckin me
just found this channel and omg you're so awesome! I'm a little surprised that Ive never seen this before. really appreciate the funny but you seem to really have genuinely well thought-out critiques of these movies. I just love what u did here.
"A train is like a spaceship but way shittier"... lol
I saw this film so many times and read the book several times and didn't pick up some of these themes. Love this channel.
One of the best movies ever made
Holy shit. This was great on so many levels.
ObservableFiction very funny when he said the punishment
Earthling Cinema is so much better than expected. Its a pleasent surprise.
Eraserhead???
+Diego Mendiola The world's not ready!... but that would be cool
Basically any David Lynch movie.
Brilliant. One of the best yet. "Which means, he's ready to shed his skin". I lol'ed.
Would Harold & Maude be a film you guys would consider doing? Or like, Blue Velvet. Oh snap Blue Velvet would be coooool
BTW good analysis I really enjoyed this episode
yes Harold and Maude, I second that!
Harold and Maude would be great!
"You receive a love letter from me, you're fucked forever! You understand, fuck? I'll send you straight to hell, fucker!" Great movie man
Yes to Harold and Maude!
How long has this been going on?!! Earthy treasures XD Subscribed now.
great analysis yet again. keep it up.
This movie has some really great scenes to turn people off of drug use. From the toilet scene which is definitely one of the most disgusting things i've ever scene to the dead baby to the withdrawal nightmares and of course the sheets full of bloody diarrhea. i love that this movie is so gross and funny yet horrifying at the same time.
Trainspotting is one of my favourite films so I was really glad to see this video :) you made some really interesting points about the film and have given me something to think about for the next week, so for that I'm grateful!
Seriously to understand Trainspotting, you have to know its a way of life. Believe me the lives of Renton and Co are lived out every day in some parts of Edinburgh, as they have been for many decades.
bigvalz and throughout the U.K. I agree u either get it or u don't. the sequel seems to be a reflection of what my generation(Who 'chose life') have gone through and where we at just like the original when it was released.
I've never been hugely interested in Danny Boyle's films but this was a very good analysis so I'll revisit trainspotting soon. Please do 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' or 'War of the Worlds' just for the lols.
Just watched the Mean Girls episode (Because I missed it in my sub box) and then I saw that a new Earthling Cinema was on.
Thanks.
Thanks a lot ( it was my request from last week ). Awesome review!
I think that the only point missing is when Kelly Macdonald's character says drugs are changing, and Ewan's character starts working and ended up becoming addicted to it. Not to mention the right time to quit an addiction, like Sick Boy losing his baby and then stopping heroin, etc.
Would you please do an episode analyzing The Usual Suspects sometime?
I would love to see your take on Disney movies...maybe an old princess one or the lion king etc
Awesome series, gets better every episode!!
One of the best episodes yet! Damn those eyebrows look even bigger as well lol. :D
thanks so much for doing this one. its one of my favorites. great job
Additionally, if you were to locate the lost relic Babe the Sheep Pig that would be most enlightening.
Pleeeeeeaaase do Brazil!
Wow. Great idea
Face it, you have to do the works of Terry Gilliam.
+Wisecrack its been one year! JUST DO IT.
cyborgchimpy Yes please.
I WANT IT.... I NEED IT!
That section where he said that Trainspotting is prequel to Transporter series makes perfect sense.
Renton at the end of Trainspotting wat to choose life...and chose the Transporter life.
Both are from UK and got bald head. :)
People who say it glorifies drug use forget that its LITERALLY told from the drug user's point of view. It's meant to be that way
the movie's ending always made me feel like Rent was lying to himself (or the audience) about finally kicking his addiction. he tried twice in the movie and failed twice nothing about the ending made it seem like this time would be any different. I haven't seen T2 yet so don't spoil me on how that goes
I always heard this was a great movie but I never saw it but now I think I really need to. Thanks Garyx!
"Trainspotting is a prequel to The Trainspotter starring Jason Statham."
LMFAO!
Oo that last line made me giggle, "A train is like starship but way shittier"
thanks man you highlighted quite maningful parts of this masterpiece, ihave never thought about those scenes's hidden meanings.
Perfect Day, a song about a pretty good day.
Beautiful.
I did not know about this movie! Thanks Earthling cinema!
This is easily one of our favorite series. Awesome job, guys!
Do Requiem for a Dream. Please!
This isn't a jukebox. He's reviewing whatever movies they find intact on that wasteland we used to call Earth.
I love the multiple translations on the sequel. A little detail (I had to go back to prove it to myself) but one I think makes an impact on the video format.
Forget it; I love all the design choices!
Thank you for another wonderful review your comedy and insightful commentary is just brilliant
This one was your best yet. Very well done.
*Scream* would make for some odd alien observations.
This is a great show, you guys. I just loving it. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us.
This series has been awesome, would love to see something done with Watchmen and Mr.Nobody.
I adore Trainspotting. You're doing all my favourite movies in this series, its great. ^_^
this is actually a really interesting analysis and not a total joke like the mean girls one
great to see a youtuber who is actually funny..you rule dude.
I'm so glad you chose to do this !
An Inception analysis would be awesome, please!
Life is an endless loop of all the Earthling Cinema commentaries that will ever exist.
Great show!
These are all so fantasic
What a hilarious line, "I should mention that a train is like a starship... Only shitter..." I'm still laughing about that gem! Thank you MatPat for the recommendation to this channel! +1 Sub!
Trainspotting is my favourite film
damn son that shit is destroyed
Thumbs up for: Stanley Kubrick's "A clockwork orange" !! :D
I'd like my 4.34 back, you pointed out nothing new or of interest, and since you are OBVIOUSLY so much more advanced then I'm sure you can manage a little thing like that!
This is my favorite show on UA-cam :)
I frikkin' love this channel
PLEASE, MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THE SECOND FILM!!
The Shawshank Redemption would be amazing to do an episode on!
"I should note that a train is like a starship but way shitier" hahahaha this series is bomb!
would be awesome to see an episode of Earthling Cinema about Pink Floyds The Wall: the movie
i like the idea of apolcolypse now, brazil, and Citizen Kane. I'd also like to see some on Eyes Wide Shut and Ordinary People
"like Michael Jordan coming out of retirement every time there's a Space Jam" omg hahahhahahahahahahahah frikin comedy gold
HAHAHA I love the running gag of censoring human digestion XD!!!
There is something you missed about the title. The series of puncture wounds addicts get from repetitively injecting heroin are sometimes referred to as train tracks.
P.S. I learned that from school. That was one really weird anti-drug video.
You missed the whole point of the film being called 'Trainspotting'. In his bedroom which his parents locked him into to withdraw from heroin, there are pictures of trains on his wallpaper. When he is detoxing, because of lack of stimulation and time seeming like it stood still, there is nothing to look at except those 4 walls, so he is essentially trainspotting for the time he is in withdrawal.
As for some future suggestions, please do Rashomon, El Topo, Straw Dogs or Seven Samurai.
i was just thinking about "i want you" then i saw this thumbnail with abbey road on it! the song goes perfectly with the movie too
Please keep making these. They're awesome. At first I couldn't look at the eyebrows though. Something just gives me the heebeegeebees about them. Anyway it's a great show.
Bloody great movie
American History X would be pretty neat, I'd love to see how Garyx would commentate on certain scenes and the overall message of the movie.
this was harder hitting than most.... nice to see respect
One of my favorite movies ever
You should do Braveheart and Do The Right Thing, both of which I watch with my students
Could you do one on Shawshank redemption. It's one of the best films I've ever watched. It would be really cool if you could. Thanks!
A video on The Shining would be pretty awesome.
Ive been very sick I missed a lot I see damnd as always u freaking knocked it out of park it rocks thank you
