I had an idea for how to know how much these shrink. If you mark one like a ruler with millimeters then shrink it you can use it to measure what size the full size piece needs to be to shrink down to fit in a project.
Timothy, this is an EXCELLENT idea! I'm pinning so others can see it. Thank you! And it's good to make both horizontal and vertical markings, since shrinking isn't necessarily even in both directions. Here's a video showing how this may be done: ua-cam.com/video/7h0Bwk66g3o/v-deo.html
Last year, for Mother's Day, my daughter's Pre-K teacher had her class make their mom's a Shrinky Dink handprint keychain, with their name written on it and the year. I have it on my keys. I think she used acrylic paint, had the kids dip their hand in the paint, place it on the Shrinky Dink, then she baked them. The paint has a lot of texture, but won't come off. I love it so much!
There are shrink plastics that you can print on with an inkjet printer. The colors seem weak until they shrink, then the intensity is amazing! Since they shrink consistently, I used them to make game pieces. They are excellent for making toy pieces like tail lights for GI Joe cars or winders with tiny people in them for miniature buildings.
Im from central MS, your accent and way of speaking sparks SUCH nostalgia for me. Reminds me of the older folks I grew up around! 😅 Its like sun & cicadas. You sound like home ☺
Crafsman! You gave me an excellent idea on how to craft my own game accessories such as tokens or markers! Especially from those collectible card games that normally come with flimsy punch card tokens. Thank you so much!
Dude. Thanks for posting this! I wouldn't have thought of that, but it's brilliant. Maybe it's time to try and get my 10yo to make some sweet custom Magic counters...
When my husband and I first got married, I made up our own currency called "honey money". I drew bees and other cute things on circles of shrink plastic, and told my husband that we could use them to trade favors. I think I only used them a couple of times, but it was cute, at least, as a fun idea to get us to think about currencies and our relationship.
This is the best thing I've seen in months. I think I may use this to upgrade board game components. A new hobby to be sure. at work I have an oven and nacho trays. and I carry posca markers in my bag every day.
That coloring technique is so smart! Definitely what I'll be doing from now on, also, I loved how you in cased the pin back in resin, I've never seen that before!

My wife and I are medical gypsies I guess. This will be fun for the kids as we travel. Not a huge shop living in a fifth wheel. We can make pins for all the places we go. Great video.
I love the combination of the shrink plastic and UV resin! Gives me something to make with my shrinky dink plastic that doesn't feel like something I could easily ruin
Man, this reminds me of when my brother and I used to put chip packets in the oven as a kid - they shrunk like mad. This seems a little more interesting than shrinking a packet of Twisties though. :P I especially love the domed pieces, the resin really gives them a sweet shine!

Crafsman! I thought this might be a nice little “do it yourself”/nostalgia vid on making Shrinky Dinks™️, but this was so much more and _soooo_ cool. Your artwork and sheer creativity are boundless, and always makes me grateful I’m a subscriber - you’re awesome!
I have done this shrink stuff with my kids many times… but of course STILL learned a ton of NEW and creative things to do from this video. As always! Thanks Crafsman and Crafsfamily!
Love using Shrinking plastics. Evan have the same brand used in the video. Love that I can use stamps and stamping ink to create a design to color. Also printable shrink plastics. Those work fantastic too! Thank you Mr. CrafsMan. You have a great voice!
One tip Crafsman- if anyone is new to shrink plastic the best thing to make first is a ruler! Cut one end off of the sheet that is 1" wide, then mark it lengthwise with ruler marks. Then after you shrink it you know exactly how much it shrinks to help you plan projects. You get a good idea of what size piece to start with to make the finished size you want. I usually make a new ruler for each pack of shrink plastic, mostly because I always lose the old one.
Wow... I really loved this video. I for one really like the idea of mixing in some crafts that the whole family can do. And your end products were COOL and fun! Great job.
You can make curved shapes too! Instead of flattening them immediately when they come out of the oven, you can press them onto a curved object (that won't melt) and they will freeze in that shape. In the nerd bicycle gang we made custom badges on the front of the bike (on the "head tube" that the handlebars come out of) by pushing the hot plastic onto the tube (or just a piece of pipe of the same size), and then sticking the badge on with strong double stick foam tape. You can make decorative badges and labels for all kinds of things this way, or even small bowls.
There's a lady who made a line of molds for using this plastic for jewelry... you put the piece on to it and warm it with a heat gun then use another piece to push it into the curve of the mold, leaving you with a cup shaped piece with a hole in the middle. They look like flowers. It's really cool.

My son is in kindergarten and he made me a shrinky dink keychain his is his hand print and inside says I love you and his name. ❤ I love it. Plus I just got it today for yesterday mother's day.
I have to admit I'm pretty jealous of your setup. That's my dream workroom! You've got a smart camera setup, too.
I love your style, shop...& yup, the motorcycle too! Keep Craftin! Thanks
Got too crazy with the dancing…brought on the thunder!
Very nice idea! Thank you!
There's a lady who made a line of molds for using this plastic for jewelry... you put the piece on to it and warm it with a heat gun then use another piece to push it into the curve of the mold, leaving you with a cup shaped piece with a hole in the middle. They look like flowers. It's really cool.
You were right Crafsman, the poscabilities are endless.
Crafman a lot of your images are just amazing - take the trike, defocused background, coloured lights etc. You should do T-shirts for us to buy.
Love the advice for the UV resin. Thanks. 😊 Also adore that you've made the one into a pin. I am obsessed.
