I had an idea for how to know how much these shrink. If you mark one like a ruler with millimeters then shrink it you can use it to measure what size the full size piece needs to be to shrink down to fit in a project.
Timothy, this is an EXCELLENT idea! I'm pinning so others can see it. Thank you! And it's good to make both horizontal and vertical markings, since shrinking isn't necessarily even in both directions. Here's a video showing how this may be done: ua-cam.com/video/7h0Bwk66g3o/v-deo.html
Last year, for Mother's Day, my daughter's Pre-K teacher had her class make their mom's a Shrinky Dink handprint keychain, with their name written on it and the year. I have it on my keys. I think she used acrylic paint, had the kids dip their hand in the paint, place it on the Shrinky Dink, then she baked them. The paint has a lot of texture, but won't come off. I love it so much!
Crafsman! You gave me an excellent idea on how to craft my own game accessories such as tokens or markers! Especially from those collectible card games that normally come with flimsy punch card tokens. Thank you so much!
Dude. Thanks for posting this! I wouldn't have thought of that, but it's brilliant. Maybe it's time to try and get my 10yo to make some sweet custom Magic counters...
When my husband and I first got married, I made up our own currency called "honey money". I drew bees and other cute things on circles of shrink plastic, and told my husband that we could use them to trade favors. I think I only used them a couple of times, but it was cute, at least, as a fun idea to get us to think about currencies and our relationship.
There are shrink plastics that you can print on with an inkjet printer. The colors seem weak until they shrink, then the intensity is amazing! Since they shrink consistently, I used them to make game pieces. They are excellent for making toy pieces like tail lights for GI Joe cars or winders with tiny people in them for miniature buildings.
This is the best thing I've seen in months. I think I may use this to upgrade board game components. A new hobby to be sure. at work I have an oven and nacho trays. and I carry posca markers in my bag every day.
That coloring technique is so smart! Definitely what I'll be doing from now on, also, I loved how you in cased the pin back in resin, I've never seen that before!
Oh Crafsman, I love everything about this video, the beautiful humor, the feeling, the technical info, the beautiful DOF with your camera and your wonderful/fun drawings. This was as sweet and cool as a nice drink of water. Thank you.
I really like all things small, which makes me wonder why I never had these as a kid, heck I never even heard of them before! Thanks for the cool video, and I like the new island film setup :)
CrafsMan, I have just discovered your channel and first off, I just love your voice (yes, even the whispery parts) and your manner of speaking because they make me feel very calm and safe. Second, as someone who worked for ten years at a national fabric and craft chain, I really appreciate your dedication to safety and the way you obviously read and follow package directions on craft supplies. Last, the sheer variety of crafts you demonstrate is so impressive! Your channel is an amazing resource and I've already gotten my husband and a friend to subscribe. I'm having a wonderful time exploring your video library.
Craftman..... I love you. Spilling markers, pulling away the plastic unnecessarily, being free and having fun. I really do love you! Omg those blue love birds are SOOOOOO CUTE! You're a good artist Craftman.
I'm not positive, but a lot of people dip permanent markers into alcohol to make alcohol ink. Great seeing you here. I'm gathering items to recreate your HHO generator.
I use alcohol based dye stains to tint shellac or use parallel to shellac finishes. Alcohol tends to be a great carrier for color because of its quick evaporation.
A lot of quality alc. markers will be sold as "dye-based markers". Basically a bunch of pigments suspended in alc. with a felt tip for application. So to answer your question, yes. However, depending on what you're try'na do, you might be better of buying you some marker refill (Graffiti brands are usually the cheapest AND high quality). It'll pro'lly be cheaper than buying the fancy shmancy stuff you'd find in the painting supply/hardware store. If you're really interested in experimenting with this topic, a lot of graffiti writers used to make their own inks by collecting old, dried out markers and soaking 'em in a bottle of rubbing alc., adding in whatever fine dyes and pigments they could get their hands on. Everything from super finely ground charcoal to leather dyes from dads shoe polishing kit. I'm lucky enough to be in art school now, and will get me some dyes from the print departement and textile departement I'll add to my homemade dye-based alc. inks I put in my dried up markers. Disclaimer: I also use a lot of old parker/staedtler/... ink refills from garage sales. These still contain a bunch of nasty solvents that can't be used no more. Think things like Solv-X (Xylene). Depending on what you's is about to use them for, this might be something to look out for. Like, it ain't good for yo' skin. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions y'all might still have, got a lot a lot of practical experience with alc. markers and inks (can't help with the chemistry side of things though...). If y'all looking for good websites to buy alc. markers, again, give the graffiti suppliers a look. Bombingscience, spraydaily, mtnworld, ... These are good places to look. If longevity isn't an issue, get you some cheapo alc. markers from the dollar store, have also had some surprisingly good results with the cheapest of the cheap markers. After all, it's just alc. with some dye-based pigments. Ain't much you can do to F it up. Worst case the colour won't be exactly the same as on the box and it'll run dry quicker. But for pennies per marker...
@@MaybeitsmeJulia Over time, yes. But when you use them in a baking setup, the pigment will get a lot more concentrated and won't fade as quick. You could also look for "artist quality" markers or "archival" markers. Been using a lot of Farber-Castle lately. They've got an amazing array of colours and a nice small brush tip. They've got some sort of UV-proofing (that's what'll make 'em last, stop 'em from fading). I know the painter David Hockney uses them for his work.
I love the combination of the shrink plastic and UV resin! Gives me something to make with my shrinky dink plastic that doesn't feel like something I could easily ruin

Crafsman, I've been watching your videos for a few years now. I just thought I would mention how much I enjoy them. I don't have any interest in toys or injection molding or most of your subject matter. It doesn't matter. The value I get out of your videos is your calming demeanor. Your videos are basically therapy in today's modern world. So, I wanted to say thank you. I think you're doing a lot more good in the world than you realize. Take care
My wife and I are medical gypsies I guess. This will be fun for the kids as we travel. Not a huge shop living in a fifth wheel. We can make pins for all the places we go. Great video.
What an amazing project (as you mentioned) for Families! Your videos are always so thought out and informative. I really enjoy your sense of humour as well. Take care and thank you🙂
Bringing me joy and smiles when I need it most. Thank you! I never knew how much depth you could get from coloring on front and back with these, and the resin really makes it look even more awesome. :)

I swear every time I need resources, information, and/or tutorials for a specific project I want to do, you're right there with a video. Thank you so much for all of your hard work educating and entertaining the worldwide web.
I absolutely love the fun, basic crafting videos, CrafsMan. This video was great in every way, and I LOVE the musical landscapes you put in the background. Awesome work on the work/video bench, too!
Man, this reminds me of when my brother and I used to put chip packets in the oven as a kid - they shrunk like mad. This seems a little more interesting than shrinking a packet of Twisties though. :P I especially love the domed pieces, the resin really gives them a sweet shine!

First off, awesome job on the content and video as usual... But the Audio and music were especially OUTSTANDING. Your production overall just keeps getting tighter and tighter and the hard work put into it really shows. Thank you!
Thanks for all the tips Crafsman! I always get too in my head when doing shrinky dinks, I think this video will help me stop worrying and enjoy the flow of the art
I did this last year when my friend Lee (IceyCat25) passed away. Except I used a printer to print out a bunch of his logo. After baking and resin covering them, I added lapel pins the backs and gave them away to his family and friends. The plastic curling in onto itself is a issue when baking. So you do have to keep an eye on it. Even with parchment paper on top. Adding UV resin on top does help, but it can be a pain when bubbles form while drying. I ended up skipping the resin due to this. I'm now working on 3D printing Lee's logo as a key charm for his family. Once done, I'll put the STL file up for free download.
I love the ending so much! Thank you Crafsman for giving me such pure and creative content! I honestly can’t tell u how much joy your videos have brought me!

Love using Shrinking plastics. Evan have the same brand used in the video. Love that I can use stamps and stamping ink to create a design to color. Also printable shrink plastics. Those work fantastic too! Thank you Mr. CrafsMan. You have a great voice!
I LOVE that you put your personality in your crafts with your narrative voice with teaching, humor, and amazing art ❤️ You are very talented craftsman. Also, your workshop is amazing.!!
I love this youtube channel so much. The effort and care that goes into each video makes them like works of art. It's that cozy corner of the internet I can always rely on, good day or bad. Thanks for all the videos Mr crafsman
