I think Canter would be great on Nel instead of Quality time, 5 HP isn’t much and being able to do some chip and inflict Draconic Hex, then getting out of range and making room for your other enemies is very useful.
My Rafal is my Mage Cannoneer. He's paired with Corrin. You have no idea how powerful a combination this is without hands on experience. Applying the hex debuff on anything within reasonable distance is great, but the real beauty is being able to freeze enemies rushing in, making some particularly difficult encounters several times easier. It turned Chapter 21 and the final Paralogue into far manageable ordeals. My Nel is a front line Fell Child, only having real trouble taking on too many enemies in the endgame. Pairing her with Camilla makes for Dragon Vein shenanigans as well as great movement when engaged. Her Dark Inferno was KOing several enemies up til about Chapter 19 and has been just as useful as a means of preventing enemy progression. Both units have been great additions and their usefulness several times more than I had expected.
I think Sigurd and Camilla are great choices on Nel and Rafal respectively! Nel’s Override is pretty strong, an engraved Silver Greatlance can put in work. With Rafal, Camilla patches up his speed and resistance, and also changes the AOE of Dark Inferno. An Engraved Silver Greataxe can let Rafal 1 shot squishier enemies in the Dark Inferno, with damaging the rest of them very heavily with Soar (dragon class effect does damage after combat, so that’s a lot of chip to a lot of enemies) Their personal classes have been really fun with those 2 emblems, I highly recommend 👍
I did something similar. Made Nel a Royal knight with byleth. Skills lance power (2nd skill up to you). Magic she has is great for flame lance or healing (lance power really juices it) but her str is good as well, not to mention she gains the 3 houses lance as a horse unit with byleth which hits crazy hard with lance power. But with byleth she gives +10 dex to units when dancing which is universally useful. Rafal is the better dragon unit since his str is so much higher. Plus his class skill spur emblems is so useful. Tag lyn on him to fix his speed dex and res, or Corrin if you want him more supportive. Great video overall.
I feel so dumb now for never noticing there was a two range option for the dragonstones whoops, I gave Nel Lief mostly to fix her build and then I noticed that between her having pretty even strength and magic in addition to 20% damage boost quad hit gets from dragons made that move hit pretty hard so she became a decently bulky special target delete button was a nice surprise
You’re getting use out of Quad Strike? I’m using Lief on Amber because he has the highest Strength growth in the game and the build bonus lets him use the Brionac, Brave Lance and Binding Killer Lance for no speed reduction so he doesn’t get doubled by most enemies, and he usually does less damage on a Quad Strike than a normal attack unless he’s fighting a mage or very squishy archer.
I personally put Hector on Rafal to max out Def, forge Revanche to +3, Put the Soren engrave on it for extra MT, and use Nel with Edelgard as a frontline, forge Reprasailles to +2, with the Chrom Engrave, as a unit that deletes enemies with Houses Unite. I keep both in their Fell Child personal class.
I’ve actually been planning out my maddening team & I’ve been struggling on 3 units I was very “meh” on using, but these two + Gregory might be who I use, thanks for the support dragon idea! I didn’t wanna do it on Alear lol
if using DLC, i think i’d rather use Byleth on a mystical unit for Thyrsus rather than on a dragon, because the existence of Chrom essentially invalidates Byleth Dragon Instruct with Rally Spectrum, which you can easily slap on Lindon or Saphir for some Bond Fragments as a dedicated support unit. If planning to use a more offensive support unit like Nel in this video, you can always spend a few Well books to get Rally Spectrum+ on them. I find that Thyrsus is an incredibly strong thing to have access to by providing easy 3 range 100% accurate Elsurge spam, or 4 range Bolganone killing, or even 5 range Thoron poking which outranges Wyrms. It’s a fantastic option for units like Vidâmes Céline or Sage Anna, who benefit from Byleth in every conceivable way (Magic and Speed bonuses are obvious, Luck bonus helps Anna make money as well as helping both do Status Staving with Divine Pulse+), and i think definitely is a better use case for Byleth rather than just as an instruct bot when Rally Spectrum exists and is strictly better in most cases
I actually think the dragonstones are better on Rafal because he has higher strength and defense. They scale off strength so he can use the magic one to counter armor and the 1-2 range one for enemy phasing. He is actually pretty decent in his Fell Child class. Good emblems that come to mind for him are Ike or Lyn because of their combat potential and decent dragon bonuses. Nel on the other hand needs are reclass. She is decent, but her stats are all right in the middle. She needs a reclass so she can specialize instead of remaining as a generalist.
Rafals crit quotes echoes in my head fell child revanche engraved with Lyn and give him ike that's all forge his axe and add some def boosting stuff or pair up and speedtaker then he can solo pretty much everything mages are still a issue but he can't be beaten otherwise (also weapon surge revanche at the start and trade it to rafal and sit back and relax) maddening wise you need no-one else
Honestly i just slap sp conversion and starsphere on everyone, Tiki for Nel for the stat increase and utility, and for Rafal, either Ike or Hector depending on what the battle calls for, but usually Hector goes to my mvp Louis who clears physical units out of stages by himself with no issue, Yunaka has Lyn for now until I get corrin ane she deletes mages alongside my Alear to cover Louis, I use Chloe as a veronica fortify bot but she has good combat stats, those main 4 are my main team these days but im trying to level up my other units too and i recently discovered how good Kagetsu is
Nel and rafal are amazing units and i have also been having fun theorycrafting them however something incredibly interesting i found is that nel and rafal both would have access to obscurite from veyle as unlike misericorde it is type limited to dragons and not veyle herself meaning they can in fact use it so its allowed me to make a few different builds for nel specifically cause she has a workable magic growth (of base 25% going up to 55% if youre powerleveling on sage however star sphere will be a valid option on random growths) i switched her to mage knight so she could also make use of her innate lance proficiency to wield represailles, flame lance, and her obscurite. I also handed her soren ring with holdout and quick riposte so when shes not player phase nuking with obscurite she can quick drop enemy mages with her already decent str stat For rafal i actually havent used him in a run however since im running mage nel he will likely be having the dragonstones in my next run and keeping him in his fell child form along with giving him you guessed it starsphere (with that he gets 100% HP growth making him incredible for reprisal) which brings me to my actual idea to what im actually doing with him roy ring with inherited vantage + reprisal or wrath with a lyn or eirika engraved revanche/tomahawk (and possibly just using the binding blade with roy engage) it would potentially allow him to be a second panette with lower crit
As someone who adores the shifter classes from FE, I cannot stress how much - despite my issues with “Engage” as a whole - I’m relieved by the Fell twins actually being able to do so; the game as a whole borderline contrives why neither Alear or Veyle never do, and same for the Zephia/Zelestia duo (who as Mage Dragons SHOULD be so much more interesting for this fact). Don’t get me started on the lamentable fact there are *four* characters in 3H who theoretically should be playable as dragons (or playable at all… Rhea!) Still hoping that if we ever get another Archanea title they let us use an Earth Dragon (Kaga himself wanted to avert the prior trend of them all being degenerated or just plain antagonistic, but as he left before FE6 this never materialised). Just how some things go unfortunately, and with how a lot of IntSys has me feeling conflicted on many things they do with FE (even when they do great, they have stuff which makes my head cock in confusion), it’s… reassuring I suppose, whenever we do see how good certain things are? Still wish they’d go back to some things, but I’ll take what I can get, at least when I’m not too disappointed to care. :-( Interesting to see how you continue these builds; really fascinating to keep seeing how the community as a whole discusses character-building, and how you’re not just taking other people’s ideas on board but making it your own. Even as I haven’t been keeping with the game, I’m impressed from how ongoing this fact is mate. ;-)
On my first run using Nel and Rafal. I gave Nel Camila and Rafal Corrin. And kept them in their base class for the dragon bonuses. They did okay but I could have done better.
I made Rafal a monster enemy phase unit with Reprisal and vantage using Ike for the resolve and wrath. I have him equip the 2 range dragon stone so he can counter everything and once he is at about half health or lower he starts one shotting any enemy that attacks him before they even get a chance to attack. Its absurdly broken and fun since ai will always target him when he is low thinking they can finish him off. Nel I also use as support corring user since I love being able to constantly spam whatever dragon vein I want or need.
@@TitaniumLegman Of course! Its pretty fun but sometimes you get unlucky. But when the rng is on your side you can clear half the map on enemy phase and its amazing.
@@AshenDust_ I did see them. But I don't understand why they are Ph Atk. It is not like they are using their Claws/Talons. They are using Breath weapons so it should be Mag Atk. Nil/Rafal may have low magic but it can be salvageable if used right
@@DARKMalice9000 it isn’t salvageable, and there’s no point in salvaging it either. If you read the descriptions, why did you think they were magic weapons?
