Heart was formed by Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy Wilson (guitars and backup vocals, sometimes lead vocals). What sets rock vocalists apart is their ability to shout or scream a pitch-usually with texture. Ann has power, texture, vibrato, accurate pitch, and can go soft also. Ann Wilson has been my pick as best all-time female rock vocalist since I first heard Dreamboat Annie in 1976. The audiophile market chose it as one of the first Rock (versus Classical or Jazz) albums for issue as a limited-edition Half-Speed Master vinyl release: It was a cleanly-produced concept album with dynamic range, stylistic variation, and evocative lyricism, featuring stellar vocal and guitar performances.

I was 17 in 1977 and saw Heart in my hometown of Boston at an outdoor concert, they were great and her voice was at its peak back then.
