That was one hell of a special! Can not wait for the others! I hope you all enjoy the reaction :) (It wasn't as quiet as this when i was editing, it's strange that the volume has gone down. Apologies).
I think that back then, Donna had too much of the Doctor energy so her releasing all of that would burn her up but now that she and Rose share that energy, they can safely release it since its diluted between 2 people.
@@Shelma32Reactionsso if I can maybe help add some context for it, there’s actually a line from the Doctor that says he was still worried about that energy being inside of Rose and Donna because it could potentially still cause damage to them. So them releasing the energy basically secures them that they are no longer prone to being hurt from its effects. She may no longer be the Doctor Donna, but she’s Donna Noble and she has descended!
@@Shelma32Reactions there's also two things one that I was reminded of by another commenter and one that I always had a bit of a problem with. If you remember back during The Meta crisis 10 stubbornly held on to his face and then during the Regeneration he specifically said that he didn't want to go. So letting things go is something that ten definitely had a problem with. And remember letting go of the time lord energy is what cost River all of her regenerations
Nerys was in series 4, Donna's friend. So many easter eggs throughout all of the episode. Even the point that Wilf's age is mentioned when it is said he is in a nursing home which is Kate Leatherbridge Stewart is running for old soldiers and mentions Wilf being 94... coinsodently the same age as Bernard when he passed. RTD has paid attention to every tiny tiny detail and I am living for it.
I think it’s the execution of the method. I think if we saw Donna’s thought pattern behind realising she could let it go, then showed her struggling to release it, like maybe she needed to focus her will power to remove it from her, then it might have seemed more realistic, instead of it just coming out of thin air and then it’s over.
Yeah, I agree. If maybe we saw little moments of her thinking about it, maybe through the 3 episodes and then it happens at the end of the 3rd, it would have been better. Definitely would have made more sense to me.
I totally love this 1st special and I really love your reactions! Just stumbled on your channel because of Good Omens and since then, you've become one of my favorite reactor. Hope you continue to react till the last Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special! Keep it up! Thank you for this one! ❤
"can we keep her as a companion?" Funny thing, the actress who plays the Scientific Advisor also plays a character in the DW Big Finish audio dramas named Hebe Harrison and is the newest companion of the 6th Doctor and Mel Bush.
I definitely shared in your confusion about the way they just let it go, but someone mentioned how time lords can use regeneration energy. Like when 12 used it to fake out bill… so maybe they just had to expel that energy? Maybe with 2 people it was way easier to expel than just one person
I like the idea of it being like normal Timelord energy and seeing comments about having it in two people made it easier to expel. I just wonder now where the energy went lol
So glad you have your Azirophale mug because my first thought on seeing the new Tardis was that it had heaven's head office vibes from "Good Omens"! So I hope they introduce a new colour scheme pronto. We don't want the Metatron turning up!
personally i also think the "just let it go" thing is a bit of a cop out, but i don't mind it too much, honestly my main problem with it was the weird gender divide of "the doctor doesn't know how to let it go bc he's a man now"??? i think that line would have been better if they'd made it more about how donna and rose think differently to the doctor because they're human, not because they're female
I think the more I look at it, the more I'm going to be okay with the 'just let it go' part. The gender divide did seem strange but it's not something I'm completely hating. Hopefully if I watch the episode a few more times, things will feel better to me.
I totally agree, that's the only thing of the entire episode I'm having trouble with. They could have even went for the fact that face was the one that had the hardest time on "letting it go" when he had to die and regenerate ("I don't wanna go", remember?). If they somehow mentioned that, it would be brilliant and my headcanon is that that was what they were going for. But the line "a male presenting Time Lord wouldn't understand"... Ugh, I hated it. It kinda breaks the whole point the episode was making: to respect every gender, binary or not, and every person for all that matters. Idk, it's not something I can't look over and move on, but it certainly bothered me the most. Specially because the rest of the episode felt so beautifully careful and tender, so well written and executed, that this line itself was a massive let down. Unless, of course, I'm not getting it at all. We'll see.
@@koralinawho Thinking of it again, it does feel weird having the bit about the male presenting timelord when a lot of the episode is about how every gender should be respected. if it had been worded differently or, like you said, something about how that face had a hard time letting go, it may have worked better.
Someone in another reaction comment section mentioned that men would keep their emotions inside. But women would let it go. I do find that men on social media are quite fragile... UA-cam and Twitter being examples.
@@Shelma32Reactions there was an early draft of the TVM when it was planned to be a full fledged series and they outlined an episode which was a remake of the Toymaker’s serial. In it, he was acting at the behest of the Master. That, IMO, would have sucked because the Toymaker is supposed to be like a God, right? In which case he wouldn’t answer to anybody, he’d have people answering to him.
@@ChrisC11291980 from what little I know of the Toymaker, that definitely doesn’t sound good. I have a ways to go with my Classic Who reactions before I reach the Toymakers appearance so I know very little about.
@@Shelma32Reactions most of his serial is lost so I know as much as you do. Letting it go is easier when its a smaller amount. Tennant himself let the energy go from himself into the hand to create the Meta Crises Doctor so it was not a new idea.
I was 8 when the first episode was broadcast and I loved the Tardis control room in this . I had no idea about Beep the Meep , but maybe in keeping with the original concept it's not wise to judge by appearances was the theme . I'm in agreement with you for the most part , I enjoyed it and a comparison with the 50th probably isn't valid until we've seen all three . The pace did seem a bit rushed , I don't really have an issue with just letting the metacrises go . I'm guessing that Shuti won't make an appearance until after the Doctor has met Wilf but I'm willing to be proved wrong . Definitely with you it's odd to see the Disney logo at the end .
Whilst editing I think I felt a bit better with the metacrisis letting go part and I do agree that these will be better to be judged as a trio. More like a mini series I think than 3 individual specials. I think that Ncuti won't be in it until the last one, where we will probably see Wilf as I think the Toymaker is probably the one 'pulling the strings' on it all.
No wasn't a cop out the doctor did mention it, for one person the power was too strong but for two people the power was balanced so Donna alone couldn't let the power go on her own it was too strong so she needed another for it
The more I watch other reactions and look back at it, I think the more i am okay with it. I think it's something that may make more sense for me with time and maybe with the other 2 specials as well.
It felt like a great Tennant and Tate episode, but didn’t feel like an anniversary. I think we have to see the next two specials. I’m going to think of all 3 together as the 60th special.
Having watched several reviews, including this, and the episode multiple times - taking into account Gold's wonderous music for the final act. I think Russell wrote for us something very special, a beautiful healing fairytale, cast with our old heroes and new ones, with queer and inclusive themes for darker post Brexit times. The easy resolution of the meta-crisis by the Noble women is average to poor Sci-Fi storytelling - necessary but far too convenient. It is, however, a lovely 'progressive' fantasy/fairytale resolution. Fairytales built on nostalgia, love and acceptance can be strong. No wonder the woke haters hate this! I am sure that as the reboot of Doctor Who progresses 'proper' sci-fi elements and logic will come to the forefront, but I for one, like this quirky start a lot.
I have sadly already seen it. As it was only something so short and with not feeling well last week, I did watch it on my own time. I found it quite fun. If I had been well last week, I probably would have reacted to it.
