i havent even made an album ranking of them because all of their albums are to great (besides leisure). although i was thinking about Modern Life is Rubbish or 13 being the best album. But yeah this album is a true masterpiece
Yeah, 97 was the best year for music we ever had - especially from Blur (but also many others including Depeche Mode). My top 3 Blur albums are this (97), Modern Life and Parklife.
I think i've already commented in this video, but seriously, this song is very underrated :( i don't lie if i say that this is my favorite off the album... It's precious
If I had to say what the most Gorillaz blur song is, I'd have to say "Music is My Radar", partially because of the vocals, but also the general vibe, if that makes any sense.
@@gliderchucker9644 Had to google that one: promo for a best-of in 2000, so no wonder I didn't know it, as I don't tend to buy best-ofs, especially if I already have the studio albums. Had a small gathering in my apartment NYE in 2011 where I was playing some tunes. A girl I had just met that night asked if she could take over DJing. I respectfully declined and she got mad and the party went downhill. I played this song to close out as she left before midnight. Still my finest moment in my life.
I liked your comment. Is there anything more awkward in life than a someone asking the host of party, in the hosts own home, if they can take over the dj'ing. It's just rolling the dice with whatever relationship the person has with the host 😅
@@fincarosa it did, in fact, get more awkward. The girl tried to get us all to leave my apartment about 20 minutes before midnight to go to a club. When I said I would stay at my apartment she told my then girlfriend (current wife) that she should go to the club and find anyone other than me to make out with. That's when I started playing Death of a Party. As she and a few people were getting their coats on to leave. Still funny to me. Never saw that girl again
This song is another great example of why Blur were better than Oasis, a band who could never write, record or perform a song as 'delicate' and introverted as this needs to be to work.
I was a massive fan of Blur back in the day, especially for Damon Albarn! (I still am a fan, but I love plenty of other music too). One thing that makes Blur's sound so unique is that, (as far as I'm aware), Damon Albarn is the only famous musician to play a home organ. This is one of their songs where that instrument is very prominent. Others include "Lot 105", "Fade Away" & "Theme From Retro". I used to have a home organ. Those were good instruments, but they took up so much space that very few people wanted them. The closest popular instrument to a home organ is farfisa organ.
@@ahmetemrearslan I love Muse. I've got most of their albums, (all up to Drones). I can't think of any of their songs that I've heard organ in though. 🤔 I know loads of musicians have used hammond organ. That's probably the most popular kind of organ.
This feels like the OP to a murder mystery show about someone who goes into public parties and always murders his victims by making it look like suicide and we view the show through his perspective as the murders feel like something normal to him to like he's done this several times before.
