This dopey groove confused and angered my band mates [Drum Lesson]

- It pretty much comes down to one little pattern, but it's the context that makes it feel... weird... Once you get it down, melodic possibilities abound. Just make sure to give the downbeat a lil kiss once in a while.

this channel is so underrated! helping get some fundamental chopping concepts down, with easy explanations. thank you!
Totally agree! Love how and what Josh teaches.
This channel is highly underrated. I really like your calm instructions and precise playing, inspiring!
Thx, Josh! Great subject, great teaching, great playing! Once again...
Creative. As always. Thanks Josh!
Loving the groove.
Learned a Steve Gadd groove that employs the same type of displacement of feel. It's the paradiddle but moved one note over. Starting with the bass drum on a quarter note feel. KRLR(R/K)LRL(L/K).
Essentially you would start off on the second stroke of the left diddle but you don't have to on the very first note.
I guess the best way to learn this beat would be to just play KRLRKLRL and then eventually add the second note of the diddle as you play the kick. Hope this wasn't to confusing.
The shuffle variation gives many possibilities for rhythmic creations. Based on "Fool in the rain, or also" Roxanna ", you can create many alternatives.
Very interesting, nicely done video and very good drumsounds!
If you extend your shuffle pattern on your hats, this is pretty much the beat to fool in the rain by led zeppelin.
Such an awesome groove man keep up the great videos.
Your playing really reminds me of Matt Garstka. You need a lot more recognition, so many people are missing out…
Nice work
this channel is a gold mine
Thank you!
bien ahí amigo cheta la nota brother
Ι love it!
Merhar shuffle?
2:07 this reminds me of a disco beat or “boots and cats” but with the hat pattern moved to the snare with a back beat accent. And the snare pattern onto the hat. Curious if you think this is an effective way to internalize this. Thanks for the video!
What is "boots and cats?"
@@tmaddrummer if you search for boots and cats drum beat there’s a few videos. It’s just another name for what you would call a basic disco beat.
@@johnstacy5382 thanks Drum Brother, I'll check it out..... that's a new one on me, and I'm old!
🔥🔥🔥👽👽👽
This is the Purdie shuffle with less ghost notes.
Not really. Not at all, actually.
@@JoshMerhar Jeff pocaro, Bernard Purdie, and Steve gadd all have similar shuffles. Yet this one came out of thin air. That’s amazing.
I had to watch it twice 👍!! Do what the pros do - Promo'SM .
Thx, Josh! Great subject, great teaching, great playing! Once again...
great coincidence!!!
helpfull for everybody!
Great vid Josh.
Minim triplets essentially!
hell funk yeah boi!
I’ve come across a similar feeling groove before, reminds of Steve Judd from karnivool
The melodies between the right hand and kick were n-n-n-n-nasty jazz. Sick ones mate
When you reposition the kick, it totally fucks my brain.
Hope you keep getting bigger recognition, sir.
That's a great one! Thanks, Josh!!
The Jeff indyke of 2022!

Very disorientating but cool! Subbed!
