    I really love how you don’t just give tools in your lessons. The way you unpack everything, give context and applications for these building blocks really links them to what it is about (opportunity) and what it should be at the service of (musicality).
    I think this type of content is the very best UA-cam taught drummers can expect around here.

    'Practice slower than you think you need to, for longer than you think is necessary' - such good advice, so simply expressed. Thanks for the great lesson :-)

    Damn you! Just when I think I'm going to have one of those relaxing, sort of due nothing weekends, I stumble across your video on a Friday night. Now I'm thinking of calling in to work on Monday (and its only Saturday yet) so I have more time with this one to get it up to speed. Thanks! Really though, Thank you!

    While still working on getting your hands together - and as you’re able to ramp up the tempo - I find it helps to the think of the 3 stroke ruffs as playing simple doubles (RR LL) with a note in between each stroke played by the opposite hand.
    Great class, Josh!

    Brilliant tutorial. Love the simplicity with which you explain. Will practice these beats today in my practice session.

    10:04 - This is where it sounds best to me (and man what a groove, that was stellar). Anything above that starts sounding stuttery (just a speed thing, not your flawless execution), especially at the end where these 32nd triplets are just beyond real :D

    In the marching world we used to play those back to back 3 stroke ruffs as "hand to hand hertas" :)

    I still can't tell if I'm just biased or if Josh is actually the single best drum instructor I've found on UA-cam.

    Its a PARADIDDLE replacing the dle (R-par L- a R-did K-dle) with the Kick. Its a great linear groove also. I saw this on Bill Ray Drums a few years back. He is the drummer for Paul Gilbert. Check him out.

    Very cool you can phrase in any grouping from 3 to 20 or beyond it will all create a very different polymeric feel this helps us hear new sounds and rythems that we are not use to hearing and will push us to create a new feel and help us push the boundaries beyond simple rythems . Great job ty

    This is a great execise for developing coordination, but in practical terms it sounds awkword as hell, because it’s so difficult to perform cleanly.

  • @RustyKnorr
    @RustyKnorr 3 роки тому

    Tells us to play it slow and clean, demonstrates it fast and sloppy. 🤨 Why not play it at the speed you can play it clean instead of hacking through it and showing how to play it badly? You’re doing exactly what you tell people not to do, the WORST way to teach.
