    Bought one of your rope kits recently for our Jotul 602 - first time fitting, but a high quality kit made it easy having watched your previous fitting video first. I did clean the rebates with isopropyl alcohol before siliconing, the surface can never be too clean! Thoroughly recommend the kit.

    Great informative video. Many manufacturers don’t have this info in their manuals and rely on the dealerships to do this simple task.

    Hi Gabriel . This channel is so unique. As a complete novice on stoves and hoping to get our first one fitted , the videos have gave us alot more knowledge and know how.❤ we recently stayed in a cottage with one and loved it( so theraputic)
    Our local stove company are pushing us towards a Charnwood C5 currently priced at £1200 or a heta inspire 45 at £1500.
    Me personally I like the clock and hunter but they don't supply these one 🙄.
    Keep the videos coming 👍

    I've had to redo the doors on an old villager stove. The glass retention architecture was completely shot and the retaining bolts had most of the threads corroded away, no chance of using even the thinnest gasket. I used very high temperature silicone sealant, up to 400°c. Not the black RTV sealant.
    This has worked and the glass is still sealing well twelve months on.

      You can have new studs fitted to the door, but I’ve known loads of people simply cut the studs off, drill through the door and replace it with a nut and a coach bolt. That works well, but does give the stove a slightly more steam punk look 😆

    Great video, really useful step by step guide to replacing the seals and ropes thank you and your kits on the website look fab. I’ve recently got hold of a second hand Stovax Stockton 4 in great condition. My question is, how do you know when the ropes/seals actually need replacing? Cheers 🔥

      @TheTortoise  8 місяців тому

      A good test can be to shut the door on some paper and see whether there is any resistance when you try pull it out with the door closed. Other times just a visual inspection will show areas where there is excessive wear.

    Hi Gabe...love the videos bro. Ive just purchased a used Clock Blithfeid 5 that is in need of renovation. Is there anything I should know regarding buying replacement parts for it, such as glass, glass seals rope seals and firebricks? Any help advice would be really welcome mate. The Cock site sells the seals brick and rope...nut it seems pricey!

      Nothing too terrifying. We sell the ropes too here:
      thetortoise.net/products/clock-stoves-rope-kit
      With regard to the bricks you can also buy a sheet of vermiculite board and cut them out yourself. The pre-cut stuff is nice and easy, but is always quite pricey. One of the main things you can do to improve things is to spray the stove, as this’ll bring it up nicely.

    Hi Gabriel, another great video, which I first saw a couple of weeks ago. I have a Stovax Stockton 8, which is not a year old yet, but the rope has just dropped off one of the corners 🤷‍♂️. Having seen your vid previously, I plan to do it myself using your kit, rather than haggle the toss with Stovax (£15 won't break the bank, and save the hassle). I just have a few Qs if you would be so kind to answer please;
    Is it necessary to remove the glass? ie can you work around it?
    If I remove the glass, do I necessarily need to re-seal it?
    Thanks.

      The kit comes with the rope and glass seal, but I doubt you need to replace the glass seal, given the age of your stove. Replacing the rope can be done without removing the glass, so it should be fairly simple.

      @TheTortoise hi Gabriel, the kit came today, followed your video and it worked a treat. Ended up taking the glass out and the seal looked OK, but was a bit loose at both ends; so just cleaned it up and re-stuck with the silicone. I used a wire brush and a wire brush attachment for my drill, then hoovered the bits out, came up a treat. Just watching the footy with the burner on now (hope Arsenal get beat 🤣).

      I love the idea of trying out some cooking stoves!
      I’ve used one of these before, they’re hungry beasts but good fun. I’m also really keen to look at an Esse one day.

    I would love to know how remove the door on the hunter allure 7.

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  8 місяців тому +2

      If you open the door wide, you will find (in the door casting) a very small grub Allen key screw. This is done up tight against a hinge pin that holds the door in place. Simply undo the grub screw on both the upper and lower hinge, give the door a jiggle and the hinge pins will drop down/out and the door will remove. Putting it back on is a little more fiddly as you have to line everything up, but I've done it myself so I know it can be done, you just need a bit of patience and a 2nd pair of hands does also really help.
