Yep she got a 10 and rightly so, But check out Olga Korbut routine a few years earlier in which the judges awarded her just a 9.8 Which should have been a 10. I like both of these ladies Olga & Nadia made gymnastics what it is today. Perfection!

My relationship with Nadia Comaneci of my strive as also Indonesia citizenship were tried to Persani ( Association of Indonesia Gymnastics ) tobe a gymnast of Indonesia in Olympics of Los Angeles in 1984 maybe as a man gymnast with medals those haven't been yet acounted and for future olympics for me as an athlete of sports : Tae Kwon Do, Badminton, Foot Ball for many names and represented for many countries . I was to be Nadia Comaneci with consortium of role with : Uswatun Hasanah, Mrs. Marina, Nila Sari, etc .
I think that she was good enough for the Olympics of '84 and won medals. But she was held back by her country... to compete against Bela was not what she wanted, she wanted to have him as her coach. If he was still coach of Romania at that time she would compete at the Olympics. He could make her do anything. But of course we would never know ......I think she is still the greatest gymnast of that time. Olga was'nt that good, Nadia had everything. Technic, skills, dare to do the things with no hasetation and made it look it was very easy. Perfect ❤.

Since Nadia I believe Svetlana Khorkin is the only gymnast as tall or taller than Nadia to win an Olympic gold medal in women's gymnastics. Considering the extreme difficulty and disadvantages of competing against much shorter gymnast, I can understand why Nadia didn't choose to compete in the 1984 Olympics. At the 1976 Olympics Nadia did not have the disadvantage of being so tall. If you go by CDC's height vs. age chart for girls, at the 1976 Olympics, Nadia had the physical maturity of a girl age 11.75 years; almost 3 years younger than her actual age. Nadia grew another 5 inches. Normally at 14.5 a girl grows only another inch in height. When prompted about the 1984 Olympics, she said it was too short of a time, but I am sure Mary Lou Retton's fame had caught her sight. Nadia said it clearly, she wanted to win. Mary Lou was a real treat. I would not be surprised that influenced her decision to retire before the new gymnastic's superstar would take over in the 1984 Olympics.

How ignorant is he that he doesn't know the basic physics and physiology of a gymnast? Such an attitude could only happen in a chauvinist time and place.
Kurt is a good person. He only wanted to give Nadia every opportunity to reconsider. However, I'm 90% certain that you are correct that he doesn't know physics. I don't believe he could explain why a gymnast 10% shorter has a 10% strength of weight ratio advantage and a 20% moment of inertia advantage. Nevertheless, he must know that short gymnast have an advantage even if he doesn't enough physics to explain it.
They never talk about Elena Mukhina who would have beat out the Nadia magic if she had not been paralyzed. She beat her in the 1978 World Championship. I would say Nadia is second to Elena in that time due to Elena having such great and difficult routines. God rest her precious soul. If she had been able compete in the 1980 Olympics she would have won it all or at least been a close match w Nadia. I hope her coach burns in Hell along with all the political parties that pushed her over the edge. Life just isn’t fair to some! No disrespect to Nadia here. I believe she was awesome as well.
@@jeffsaunders8061 Nadia was always my all time favorite gymnast. She simply looked better than everyone else. No springboard floors or modern equipment, just her. She also had the most charisma and star power. which is something I can't explain.

She would have been only 22yrs old for the 1984 Olympics. She should have competed! She would have buried Mary Lou Retton!
Well she didn't really want to compete in the 84 from the beginning.
She did not have the difficulty on vault, floor or beam to compete with Mary Lou or Szabo.
People are always talking about how this or that gymnast would've beaten Mary Lou. No, they wouldn't.

Bar routines were so much more original when the bars were closer. Now all the routines look the same and are boring compared to the older routines.
