After rebuilding my Nissan GTR and modifying it to be a 10 second car, it now has a gearbox issue. Nissan GTR's are common for bad transitions but you have to buy a $30,000 gearbox to fix them. Luckily we found a way to fix it for way less. Once it's fixed now the car has to go.

From my experience as a mechanic specializing in GTR's and Nissans of all ranges. If you can help it, you really really shouldn't mix gear box casings. What can happen if you do is it can change the pressure in the inner door and.....

Cabooom! The exhaust airbag will blow!
🤣
is this a comment like the door censor and have no clue really? Everyone an expert on youtube that has no actual experience.
I just want to say that Mat - you should know the cars are great but it's you, your dad and all the others that make the channel a must watch. Great job.
Glad you like them!

Agreed. We need to get Mat to see this.
Logical 👌
changed over electrics and as long as it holds as it holds liquid then it should be fine
Omg, Mat needs to see this.
UK only broke my heart! I LOVE these cars and I never really understood how gorgeous a British racing green GTR could be till seeing this one! Hopefully one day it can be abroad and it'll be for another GTR.
BTW the best part of these videos are seeing the bond between Mat and his father. I've lost my dad 4 years ago to cancer and I live vicariously through these two when we get to see the banter between them both. Plus the laughing is quite infectious! 😊
Fairplay to you all and good luck to everyone that enters.
Mat!! 17 year tech here, again! Lol. that info regarding crash sensors working on air pressure is true, but only applies to vehicles that have a regulator assembly bolted onto the inner door AND has a seal around the entire surface that mates to the door. As the door caves in during a crash, the sensor picks up the spike in air pressure and can deploy the airbag sooner than an acceleration based crash sensor. Doors that dont have a seal between the regulator assembly and the door itself wont be using air pressure based sensors.
In my 10 years as a wireless engineer, I would advise that you should never catch fluids in a bucket as the air pressure change in the bucket can set off the crash sensors. Something to keep in mind
😂
like so he sees this
😂😂😂
I heard that during my time as a under water wood welder
Wahaha!
This is just great viewing. I’m an ex RAF aircraft technician, now in my 70’s, but I wouldn’t take on the work that Matt and his Dad does. So much respect.
🤣 I know you wouldn't, you were RAF, enough said 🤣
@@JR-el7etI know…too much time at the pub for me 😂

And do you like brg
I truly love and admire the relationship between Mat and his dad ❤
I love how his dad is always laughing
@LoneWolfLifeStyle2 That’s your take away from the comment? Clearly you are the one who’s “think” and pretty sure his name is Matthew but Ok enjoy your little life
I'm enjoying the father-son relationship here and laughing while working. I adore you all.
I remember the zip tie trick Mat did. Didn’t see the guys comment, but he’s partially right, maybe not on this car, but on some BMWs they have a pressure sensor in the door. They worked by measuring an millisecond pressure difference and basically primed the airbag module to fire off airbags. The system works in the smallest fraction of time so it’s pretty crazy to imagine it working, but we had to make sure the hard plastic vapor barriers were sealed correctly.
Its use in Porsche too. Thas why the sensor is on the inside side of the door. When its a shock sensor, its mounted in solid chassi parts of the car.
@@Mike90Xj6 And other brands too.. The cars still have a hard mounted side impact sensor, but also now have a pressure sensor in the door to help to determine the severity of the impact, which changes the deployment rate of the side airbags to provide maximum protection.
Sadly Matt, newer cars use pressure instead of impact sensors.
Can confirm, Tesla uses this in its crash detection system too.
@@trevoraston2537yes I agree. I just explain it badly. Vw group use it, but working at Porsche I know for fact that there is pressure sensor in the doors and shock sensor around the car. I like Mat video but sometimes he just need too inform himself before making fun of people.
Came for the GT-R, but really came for the banter. Love this channel. Props to Tony for making me smile and laugh like a small child locked in a toyshop. Protect this man at all times. MOOOOO! 🐄
I hate the way people can't just celebrate people's success when someone buys there dream car instead they think it must be his parents money. When they don't even know that person. Good on ya mat for buying the lambo. Enjoy it.
I do not get it why. Rebuild something for cheap, rather get a house or a thousand other things with the cash left over.
@@TheJaoMing Irs about the passion for fixing cars, not really about the money. If you really think about it, Mat Armstrong can now afford to buy most supercars from the dealer. He bought a donor Rolls Royce and flies First Class. That's definitely worth very good cars.
His career is rebuilding cars. Besides making money off the videos, he ends up being profitable on the car projects after completion. I dont understand where these comments are coming from, hes earned all that he has.
@@mogadimetsosanele2285 The post is meant for Mat the camera guy. It also does not shine a very positive light on their rebuilds if you buy a new lambo istead of rebuilding one for yourself also. Just a waste of funds, there are many many sub 100k cars that he could have before that Hurracan.
@@TheJaoMing why should his personal life have anything to do with M.A.'s channel content? i bet the camera man works hard and earns his money, and has every right to spend it as he wishes. as a petrolhead myself, i fully support him splurging on a dream car. kudos
I just have to say, you and your father have such a great relationship. It reminds me of me and my dad. He got me into rebuilding cars, when I was in high school. My dad still, to this day, buys and rebuilds cars, even though, he’s been retired for 4 years. You and your dad have the same interaction when working on cars, that me and my dad have today. At 73, my dad is, so much like yours. He may not be able to lift as much as he can, but he still has all the knowledge to help me.
I had the opposite tuff love relationship with my dad , positive and negative over years , but I genuinely love seeing the working relationship you have with your dad , I guess he was very supportive throughout your bmx career too ,
This is the best automotive channel not only on YT but across all media. Number 1 contender for top gear presenter, if it ever returns, surely?!

The raw content, the hilarity that ensues (remembering back to when they were all whispering and pissing their pants laughing), the great car selections. The good, the bad, the ugly. It’s the realest.

Man, how I wish I lived in the UK to enter the competition, the nissan gtr r35 is my absolute dream car, when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a nissan gtr owner gave me the opportunity to ride in his Gtr and I loved it, one day I'm gonna buy one and use it for fundraising and cancer awareness, and I hope I get to give somebody else the same experience that I had, mark my words, I'm not leaving this world before I buy a Gtr. Keep up the good work, buddy. I absolutely love watching your videos.❤
Good luck dawg. We waiting on the video when you get it!!!❤
We on the same boat then
I have grown up as a carguy my whole life and one of the best things i've experienced in life is working on cars with my dad , Mat you are very lucky to have your dad around you all the time with a smile on his face , it was sad to see this nissan go but i wish you all the best with that project buddy :)
When Matt explained about not being able to buy gearbox parts from Nissan, this is what angers me about the way companies operate in the modern world, while every one of them demands to us "we need to save the planet". It tell us climate change and net zero is complete nonsense! Who in their right mind is gonna pay £30k or whatever stupid price for a new gearbox or indeed EV battery?! You might as well scrap the car, like Matt said, it's just a throw away item at that point! How is that "saving the planet" when items that are perfectly repairable are thrown way? It's not is it! All because greedy companies want to sell you sealed units or completely new items - which means more raw resources mined. Nissan could easily sell a single gearbox part for a few hundred quid, and keep cars on the road for longer, actually saving the planet. This sort of behaviour by car manufacturers is why I'm done buying new cars.
@LoneWolfLifeStyle2 🤣 Are you one of the 🤡🤡 that cries the bolts aren't done up in the right order?
Sit down kiddo, one T two T's, his name is still Mat, who gives a rats arse and my point is still valid.
Jeez, the internet gets more toxic by the day, no wonder the world is screwed when people are calling others bellends coz you used too many Ts!!
@@impy1980 Ignore likes of lonewolf, they simply aren't worth your time. With regards to your main comment though, I totally agree with your sentiment regarding how companies operate like this, however - in this case whilst I was watching the video I said to myself "now I understand why they don't sell it separate" and it's because of the level of technical expertise required to do this change, it is beyond your average Nissan garage to a "warrantable" level of QC. I know that Mat/Matt (who gives a f?) managed it and I'm sure it will be fine...but to have that guaranteed level of retail QC and guaranteed longevity you'd need to pay a lot more attention to finer details, including cleanliness, interference fit, etc, etc. IMO that's why they don't sell it as a part.
To be fair Nissan said from the very beginning that each transmission was matched to itself and you can’t part them together. And though people have, Nissan was building them and calibrating them as one precise unit.
Trump just mentioned today aswell that hes going to defeat the hysteria climate hoax
Said it’s crazy there is no such thing. In a speech
Well no one buying these cars cares a great deal about saving the planet. You know what the adage for the kind of cars Mat has on this channel : if you have to ask how much they cost to run then you can't afford one (although you're paying for Mat to live in a big house and drive fast cars) In the main too the way the average owner of these cars drives the car is a lot of the reason they end up replacing parts or the whole car. Mat's channel is, after all premised on crashed cars - and they've often barely got back from the dealer before running into a lamppost with it. We've never replaced an engine or gearbox. Our current car is a 57 plate and hasn't had anything other than typical servicing stuff oil / filter / tyres at its yearly MoT service, and I think we did the cambelt at 10 years which was the most expensive thing. That's because we're pootling around in it to Tesco and back not redlining it, wheel spinning it, doing donuts or crashing it into a ditch.
From the Netherlands here. Man i would have loved to enter the competition. Picking it up in the UK for a epic roadtrip would be so awesome. Hopefully you'll manage to do the competitions internationally in the future!
Continue to do great work. Your cars are different which makes them stand out for the norm. Too many cars are to normal, nice to see you go a different direction and results are fantastic.

When you drop subframes onto benches or whatever, I’ve found it helps to get some string and tie it to the ends of the studs on the chassis so when it hangs down you’ve got a visual reference to where the subframe needs to be.

Mat, great to see you have a great relationship with your Dad! Keep the great videos coming.
Love the new sass when detailing the competition info :)
With regards the tie wrap query in the doors and crash sensors, I think they are referring to the differential pressure sensor. The air in the door will be compressed very quickly with a side impact creating a positive pressure compared to the surrounding air (regardless of altitude, windows open etc), a bit like squeezing an accordion.
Even if completely sealed, the pressure will still increase regardless. If (and I don't fully know) it relies on a 'leak rate' ie when the air escapes, then again, I strongly doubt you blocking up a few tiny holes will have any effect. Air will most certainly escape from any other hole in the door (drain holes for instance).
Great videos as usual and I'm looking forward to winning the GTR 😊😊
Hi Matt I have a suggestion for a new project. How about buying an older classic car removing all the old components including the engine and completely redesigning it with all modern features ie Sat Nav, air con, new carbs, more powerful engine

Yes, car crash sensors in doors work on air pressure to detect side impacts:
How they work
Side impact sensors in car doors measure the pressure changes that occur inside the door when the car is hit from the side. These sensors are located in the door cavity and continuously measure atmospheric pressure. When the door is crushed, the air pressure inside the door increases sharply.
