breast milk can have benefits for skin issues, there are definitely studies out there - lots of research about being good for babies' skin and helping chapped nipples etc so I wouldn't be surprised if it was good for other skin issues too. it's popular advice to add breast milk to baby's bath water!

Yes and I was told to put breast milk on my baby's eye when he had conjunctivitis 😂 it did heal it up to be fair.

Sooo right!! Dude the best thing about breastfeeding, besides feeding the bub, the love etc, is to be able to get rid of a spot in no time if you just put a drop of breast milk on it 😂

Before Hyram, I was scrubbing my face with St. Ives twice a day, using apple cider vinegar over popped pimples (yes, it burned like hell), not wearing sunscreen everyday, and making DIY avocado, lemon, and honey face masks every week. Boy have things changed😅

My dad actually got a really deep cut when my mom was pregnant with my brother and her homeopathic doctor said to use breast milk over it. It healed in about a week and a half. My dad said he wanted to bottle it up and sell it as a product 😭

Breastmilk had been advocated to use for baby skin treatments, in some places of the world where water is sparse Moms will use their breastmilk to "clean" the babies. Moms will also use their breastmilk they would otherwise need to dump(illness, bitter taste from freezing etc) to add to milk baths! There has been some research but most from what I've seen is through Pediatric studies on breastmilk. They do advocate using your own and being careful of where you source it.

I think the reason these DIY hacks are so popular, despite the ability to buy a good quality product that actually works for less than the amount of the ingredients, is that the primary viewers are children whose parents wont buy them skincare BUT they do have access to a banana and honey lol

  • @itswadever

I think the diy thing is a combination of factors. One is a fundamental misunderstanding of chemistry. BUT I think a bigger part is accessibility.
If you know your ingredients, than you have to be extremely discerning to know what youre getting on the market. The less ingredients, the more expensive the product (usually). I know there are great exceptions you've mentioned (and im not even disagreeing with you), but many dont know about them- where to get them etc....this paragraph could go on.
Whereas honey is honey. Milk is milk. Theres one or two ingredients to keep up with and theyre at most grocery stores.
Im not saying its "right." Im personally a big fan of science and chemistry. I use your recs often 😅. Just offering explanation of what I think it is.

For the rice water I wold still like to see results further down the line. Often I just had a few good skin days because of other things and in the end the new product either did work great, worked a little, didn`t work or even made my skin worse. I did hear a lot of good things from rice water, personally more in regards to hair care but still.

One of the best things for scars i think is shea butter! I didn't know that but last summer when i did a surgery i had my thyroid removed and the surgeon gave me some cream for the scar but told me to use shea butter also and after 3 months my scar was completely gone! And it was very big and deep so i think it really helped :)

Besides the fact that everyone else has explained that there are evidence that breastmilk is good for the skin, even baby skin, if you think about it we already use milk or milk protein or ingredients extracted from milk like lactic acid for skincare and they work, so it would make sense that breastmilk would work. Probably even better in some sense since it was made specifically for humans unlike the cow or goat or etc milk.

This is one thing I have to completely disagree with. $20 for a tub of facemask is way more expensive than just making it yourself whenever you want it using ingredients you bought yourself. You'll get way more for less making it yourself over-paying $20 for a product. It's also good for poorer people who can't afford to spend $20 on skincare but can afford buying rice flour and using milk and honey they already have.

    • @brandiehammond
      @brandiehammond Рік тому

Hiram was just giving one example of the mask. It doesn’t mean u have to go out and purchase it and be more broke. I get it. I’m broke and poor myself but there are other options out there I’ve seen for $5-10 that work just as same . Using the products for food as he mentioned in several other videos it’s more about the stability of the ingredients in them and the shelf life of the food vs the skin products that are made by chemists who actually know the stability and shelf life of products which are made to last 3x longer than the foods mentioned.

I think there's a tendency to think of all DIY skincare in the same way. Were not all simpletons who decline to use preservatives and proven methods. While I do buy some products (I can't/haven't make a good vitamin c product or sunscreen), I make the majority of my skincare products because a) I get so much more product without retail markups, b) because I can control what goes into the products I make, c) because it's a creative itch I get to scratch while doing so, and d) because I love learning.

Could it be that threading and pulling those little hairs does work like a really superficial dermaroller, where the hair removing affects the skin by getting that targeted damage helping the skin to heal faster? That's the only thing that came to mind from that 07:58 part of this video. There's no data on this I guess but it just came to mind.

I do use apple cider vinegar on my head actually - just mix a few drops with my shampoo once or twice a week. I am unfortunately allergic to shampoo - almost every single brand of shampoo, even baby shampoo :( the ones who don’t sensitize my scalp are damaging my hair. The vinegar helps with that. I can use any kind of shampoo now. You could also try to use aha or bha toners for that, but apple cider vinegar works better for me - just wanted to share if anyone here has the same issues 🙈 (if it burns etc, rinse immediately and don’t do it again. Also, don’t overdo it, it will only sensitize)

i would have loved some good diy face mask when i was a kid because its simple stuff we had around the house, rather then going to the dollar store and getting a nasty face mask😐

I love your video but you could be a little more inclusive when talking about women. Not all women can produce breast milk and not everybody who produce breast milk is a woman. We can’t forget about non binary and trans folks. But I totally agree with you for the other stuff. Have a great day! /gen

    • @morgianasartre6709

As a woman who can't produce breast milk - idk what kind of mental health issues one needs to have to get pressed about this. Best to adress it with a professional. Same for the very few people who choose to make a child while not identifying as a woman.

Gorl, can you Google? FDA posted in 2022 that washing rice has minimal affect on arsenic amounts, which also means the rice water will have the same

Breast milk is like…. The secret to life… your baby has an eye infection? Drs will literally tell moms to put a drop or two off breast milk in your baby’s eye… I have moms who used it for their baby’s acne. All the antibodies if you are sick go to the baby as well to protect them! I could definitely see breast milk being beneficial to skin.
