I also learned (for the sake of this video but then neglected to put the information in the video 💀) WHY Japanese oni are depicted as wearing "tiger striped" pants! So old timey Japan used the zodiac symbols for directional signs and it's thought that there's a KIMON 鬼門 or "demon gate" in the North East direction. The North East is exactly between the ox and the tiger, which is why Japans oni have horns like an ox and the fangs of a tiger. To further emphasize the "tiger" aspect of the oni, they also wears tiger striped pants 😌🐅🐂👹They're also associated with thunder/lightning because Raijin 雷神 (our thunder/lightning god) is depicted as an oni. So all of this to say... that was is the reason why I made a lightningy tigery striped wrap for the ehoumaki 恵方巻 sushi roll 😬
I also had severe post partum hair loss. I know it's terrifying but I promise you IT COMES BACK. It may take like a year or even two to fully come back but it does!! Your hormones are just crazy out of wack
@@reinascully I don’t have any experience on post partum hair loss, but my partner suffers from Alopecia Areata and we used special shampoo, spray and even rosemary oil to stimulate the roots and it did work. Maybe that might be worth looking into?

My wife & I really enjoy watching your vlogs. :D Thank you for doing such quality videos; well thought out, well edited, & a contextual glimpse into your life & heritage.
Your baby looks so much like you! So sweet I hope she grows up healthy and well. All the best Reina ❤ P.S. there is an ongoing trend right now for hair growth using rosemary oil or rosemary water. I've heard that rosemary oil needs to be diluted with another oil so it doesn't cause the opposite effect. Meanwhile rosemary water you can literally boil a bunch of rosemary in a pot and just spray it on your scalp. I hope this helps
I love your videos..I really enjoy learning the Japanese culture..I think its so beautiful.Congratulations on your journey with your daughter and family best wishes..🕊️
I figured out that when I consumed dairy or soy, my infant son had a bad reaction to my breast milk. He had diarrhea, vomiting, Ana’s skin issues plus severe diaper rash. Giving that up for a year to breast feed him actually cleared my skin and some intestinal issues too
ngl i got a lil emotional when you said that was your hinaningyo set. it seems to have given you much luck for a great life, so hopefully it'll do so for airi as well!
When I was 16 I started to have atypical dermatitis all over my body. When I went to the doctor I was given a prescription for a cream mix that was very helpful. I was also told that i should avoid foods like tomatoes and honey when it is flaring up. I was also told to be carfull with sunlight on the spots where the dermatitis was.
One of my best friends had the same issue of allergens in her breast milk, once they identified the allergen and she was able to cut that out of her diet, her daughter's health got better.
I had a decet amount of hair loss as well, and no amount of biotin, vitamins and upplaments helped postpartum too, it came back, in about a year, its disconcerting but it gets better!
I went through hair loss with my daughter. Also help your little one from kissing hair and rubbing back of her hair. Use a silk bedding sheets as that will help stop a baby losing hair. Trust me used it for both my children and it really helps. I even have silk sheets for helping my hair.

Could you blur the face of children and babies when vlogging? It's better if children grow up without being posted all over social media because they cannot consent yet and there are people who use this video/picture material for inappropriate purposes.
Oh, that’s not why it’s falling out- during postpartum you lose a lot of your hair around the 3~4 month mark. It happens to most people, regardless of color treated hair. THOUGH I do get & agree that dying it doesn’t quite help.
I think I would've gone crazy with the amount of traditions surrounding babies in Japan. I am so happy you have a wonderful support system though and you are able to do all of these incredible traditions.
There are a LOT… it’s quite overwhelming 😅 Thankfully a bunch of them are really short & simple! And you’re right about my family support system, I wouldn’t be able to do any of the ceremonies without them!
Ugh postpartum hair loss is the worst. So mama doctor jones on UA-cam described why it happens. Essentially your hair goes through three phases, growth, maintenence, and shedding. When you're pregnant your hormones tell a bunch of it to skip the shedding phase. So your hair follicles end up all synced up because they didn't shed when they normally would and when those hormones settle down they all shed at once. It does come back but it can take time. I was just getting all my new baby hairs when I found out I was pregnant with my second so I'm really dreading this round.
Ohhhh man what a perfectly explained description of what’s going on during pregnancy vs after with the shedding cycle! Congratulations on your second baby! ❤
i love that you are doing these vlogs still so, airi can look back on them when she gets older and don't be surprised if she comes out and says, mom, why were you throwing beans in the house ? lol. much love to you, mike and Airi, my friend. take care and god bless to you all.

My baby had a dairy allergy! When I stopped dairy her symptoms went away and I could still breastfeed. Good luck! Eliminating some allergens from your diet might help. She grew out of it after 12 months with slow introduction to dairy.
Reina, thank you so much for how candid you are in your vlogs and that you let us see so many family/Japanese traditions. It's so sweet that they kept your dolls in such pristine condition. I wonder what their fate would have been if you had a boy or had no kid at all? Hmmm. I think it is important that people know about the changes that go on through pregnancy and post partum too. Some people really seem to think pregnancy is nbd, but it is physically and emotionally a big deal! I know a bunch of moms that have gone through hair loss, depression, feeding difficulty or baby allergies, and they can sometimes take it out on themselves (probably partially due to hormones; partially due to the image of an easy pregnancy that seems to exist in media). Hang in there - you've joined a big club of new parents and you can lean on other parents for their support and advice now. Also, Airi is in such a baby mochi cheek phase - how do you not poke her face? Haha. 🍡
I truly sympathize! My 19 months old is intolerant to a bunch of things including dairy, pork, eggs, kiwis, oats and legumes (including soy and peas). It’s been tough, and I’ve been on an elimination diet pretty much since she was born! Still can’t see the end of it 😅 it’s rough.
Elimination diet is SO much work, the trial and error & taking notes on reactions, and then actively removing intolerances from your diet, etc. 😫 Your baby is so lucky to have such a lovely momma like you to endure all of that! ❤
During pregnancy the hormones produce stronger and toucher hair. Now the baby is out, the hair is returning to normal, but it comes with some shedding in the meantime. As for the language training... its cute but in effective this way. Babies learn sounds of the language by listening, so you could be more effective by just talking lots and lots, like telling everything you do and think about all day long. And then part of the day just switch to English full time for several hours. Its also completely fine if one parent mostly talks one language and the other parent the other language. As the words in come up to 2 years of age, they will mix both languages, and then their brains figure it out and they will learn to switch. Kids naturally soak up language and accent, so better to talk lots and lots all day than try to be a teacher like that.
I saw another mother from another channel whose last baby was having awful colic while she was breast feeding and they found out she was allergic to dairy! As soon as the mother stopped drinking/eating dairy products the baby was totally fine!
My younger Brother was exactly the same as Airi. Exmara all over their body and in their hair.. :( It looks so bad, but they don't seem to fuss over it. Don't worry, it comes back, it happens because your body used to prioritize resources for other things on an intense level and that paired with hormones being crazy during child bearing.
Avoid lavender, it’s in so many creams that are for skin creams and baby products (in the West at least not sure about Japan) but I am allergic to lavender and when I was little my eczema wouldn’t get better it was awful and eventually my mum caught on to the lavender being the issue
