- Here we talk about how I got burned a bit. I replaced a HPOP pump and I didn't need too. Hopefully you can learn from my mistake.

I had a 317K mile 7.3 with a miss at all rpm's and generally rough running, low power till above 2K rpm, generally laggy throttle response condition. Cranking test showed no compression issues, nice even cranking. Used a cheap infrared heat gun on the manifolds to find the culprits. #2 cyl injector not making any heat and two others dumping too much fuel. When I popped the valve covers and found all injectors were original I replaced all 8 with new Alliant injectors from RiffRaff Diesel. Cups looked good, didn't mess with them. Truck runs like factory fresh again.
I’m glad you address not charging the full amount of time you have in a project like this. People want to complain about labor costs and price but never appreciate our time and the fact we donate a lot of it. I generally break the facts down for them and that they’re welcome to go buy all the tools they need and do it themselves….
I had sorta the same problem.
On a road trip pulling my 5th wheel and she didn’t seem to have enough power at hills.
Talking to my friend ( Ford mechanic diesel specialist)
Without the IDS computer to talk to the motor, EGT’s were up there so could be running lean. Had a spare pump with me, changed it, nothing.
Made it to Jackson Wyoming 1,200 miles and changed the ICP Nothing.
He was thinking HPOP but without the computer couldn’t tell. So nobody could look at my truck for at least three weeks I was going to change out the HPOP at the campground upon refreshing my memory on R&R I saw the nut holding the IPR fell off. Put it back on she ran a little better. Wound up getting a new one from Ford and same. Limped it home and put the computer on it
ICP 1,300 PSI, IPR 60%. Bad HPOP my HPOP was less than a year old Adrenaline from Dieselsite
Sent it in and it had blown the relief valve. In the meantime I put a reman OEM pump in and she ran great. I bought a Auto Enginuity SP 03 to read the motor. Works like Fords IDS.
Also now with my CS2 I’m displaying Boost, EGT, fuel pressure, coolant temp, ICP pressure all have a audible alarm if they are either to low or high in value.
I have he same problem with the low of hi pressure and I have change the iPop twice....myself. I will be checking and change out the pressure regulator.
I use 3m black tape bandaids too. Grandpa would clean his greasy cuts w paint thinner before application but I’m not sure its a good idea
That module is or is similar t0 Dr. Performance Pro Performance Module? Have a shoe box full of those The older ones where plug n play and diddled with the voltage of the ICP IPR and the MAP /MAF Really bad bad idea they like to burn out wires and then the PCM/ECM Its really delightful when the truck is sold and the new owner installs a programmer like a Edge ect
What creates a very load pop every time the engine hits on cylinder? It happened last weekend and now runs rough ! It did it for 2 .5 miles ! It was loud and up by the turbo !
hey there's supposed to be a chick in this video, what a scam
Interesting video with your knowledge when do you replace injectors? What’s your take on good quality injectors? OEM or other brands? Obviously getting “rebuilt injectors” might not be the best thing. Can you please address these questions in another video?
As far as when to replace injectors its going to depend on issues like cold starting, excesive smoke, etc. Sometimes those issues can be solved with replacing the o-rings on the injectors. But if they have been in for a long time one might as well just replace them. Aliant injectors (new ones) are the best. As far as rebuilt goes be careful of the wording "re-built" vs "re-ferbished". Re-ferbished ones are usually just cleaned and if they pass they are sold as such. Re-built are actually sort of rebuilt but some places only replace the bad parts.
I need a top side creeper so damn bad !
One of the best tool I have ever bought!!!
Interesting story. I can't understand how you were able to replace the HPOP, taking everything apart and not notice that fooler contraption, while doing it. I just did one the other day and I would certainly have notice all those extra wires not in a loom.
I removed the intake Y pipe and leave the fuel bowl where it is and remove the HPOP that way. By doing it this way you don't have to undo the fuel lines or most of the wire harness. Since this issue I have changed the way I R&R HPOP pumps by removing the oil reservoir that has the fuel bowl attatched. Its more work but I can do a better job. Had I have done it that way on that one pickup perhaps I could have noticed the fooler box.
@@prodieselrepair3218 Thanks for the reply. I have had a hard time being sure the gasket stays in place when I don't remove the fuel bowl, unless I pre-glue it; and I don't like don't that. Removing the HPOP reservoir does make it easier to torx the bolt down, but takes a lot longer and messier (for me anyway), as I just put a breaker on the crank and a clamp wrench beside it. I haven't had any trouble getting the gear on the shaft, even with my big hands through the front access.
I do remember seeing a video on UA-cam for one of those gadgets you found years ago.
Saludos desde Venezuela, ese problema pudiera ser similar en un motor international. Problema de presion baja, ya reemplaze inyectores y ipr sigue igual.
If you can't get any more pressure then you need to test the High Pressure Oil Pump. Make sure there is enough oil in the HPOP reservoir
@@prodieselrepair3218 pero este international dt530e no tiene reservorio. La falla era la ipr de mala calidad.
El 7.3 es motor International Si.
Tambine en camiones median es El T444
Aftermarket bullshit. Tuners and gadgets are the biggest pain in the ass. My customers get informed that I charge extra for Race trucks
Would you happen to know why my EBP reading doesn’t change? On my cts3 monitor it reads 29 and doesn’t increase or decrease. Has new tube and sensor
I can't think if anything right of the top of my head. It's either bad wiring for the sensor or a defective new sensor. There's a channel called "Custom Works" on youtube. He has a whole series of good sensor videos that may be able to help you understand how the sensor works. I've never come across that particua;r issue yet.
@@prodieselrepair3218 the sensor and tube came straight from ford dealer. I can check the wire, last time I checked it looked fine. I already checked his video out. I guess I’ll just replace the pigtail and go from there. Appreciate the response
@@fdevies it would read a solid number if the sensor died as well, mine killed a brand new ford sensor in less than a week not sure why but it read the same pressure reading each time. I have that extra pigtail at the icp sensor on my 01 as well I’m curious as to what mine goes too 😂
Wow....
That is a lot of great information. You said 1600 psi was low;at what rpm?Mine is reading 800 psi at 2k rpms.It has cut off out of nowhere a few times.Great video.
At the time I was only getting 1600 PSI at 2500 to 3000 RPM. It wasn't a real reading and should have been around 2700 PSI. If you're only getting 800 at 2k rpm that is no where near enough to keep the engine running right.
There’s two oil pumps on the thing there’s one on the crankshaft Behind your harmonic balancer
That's the low pressure oil pump
kelleycoon I don't quite understand what you're getting at. Yes there's a low oil pressure pump that supplies the HPOP reservoir and the rest of the engine, but that pump doesn't have anything to do with what I'm talking about in the video
What was the miss at shift???
bad injector
I used to own a shop and yes, learned a lot (e.g., cost me money) through the years...but...I can't ever remember charging a customer for unnecessary parts. I get that you ate the labor, but you also talked the customer into eating an HPOP that (likely?) may not have been needed. I'm not saying what you did was wrong, but I'm just sharing that that wouldn't be the way I handled similar circumstances. It hurts getting beat by stupid stuff...happens to all of us. You do, however, have to own your personal beats...and that includes PARTS AND LABOR. Good luck!
My customer offered to pay for the new plump that was most likely not needed. Their pickup had approx 200,000 miles on it and now it's got a new pump. That's what we worked out.
@Pro Diesel Repair GOT it. I commend you then...thanks for the clarification. I look forward to more videos. Thanks!
Would a mechanical gauge have avoided the new pump?Seems like you did mention that you relied on the computer and maybe should have went to the mechanical gauge? Is that what you were kinda saying?Great video....
There is no protocal from Ford to mechaniclly test ICP. When the customer installs idiot equipment, They should pay for the problem. We spent enough time and money learning how to do things properly and when someone throws you a nightmare....THEY GET TO PAY. There are tuners that overwrite the VIN and leave you scratching your head. Are we suposed to know every piece of stupid shit out there? Don't be nice to idiots, you will get inundated with them.
Yes that is what I should have done
So it was a bad injector? Sorry little confused
Yes the original problem was a few bad injectors and also got a couple new injectors that were defective as well.
@@prodieselrepair3218 I’m having a problem where it seems like my truck is low on power, replaced map sensor and icp sensor and I still can’t tell if it fixed the issue or not. I did notice that my truck shifts into overdrive around 45mph earlier today … is that a sign?
You should have charged what you said you should have charged and if they don’t like it go elsewhere. They’d probably get told they need to pay 3x more

Sorry about that I tried to tell you I am not good at electronic computer stuff what is that Box that you called junk? Curious
Never mind I continued with the video after finding it again I lost it Dang it ahah
Even today I still don't quite understand what that box is supposed to do or be used for.
@@prodieselrepair3218seems like it taps into the maf sensor, depending on what boost pressure the box sees it alters the ICP voltage, thus being able to control what the IPR does. Why this was installed instead of a decent quality tuner is beyond me.
Your a rip off . Book time dont even pay that much.
We're not talking about book time. I'm talking about how much actual time I spent on this one.
