  • Got a tall hedge to trim? In this video I review Craftsman’s new V20 cordless 18-inch pole hedge trimmer by putting it to the test with my huge overgrown hedge. I also take a quick look at the V20 and V60 hedge trimmers and talk maintenance, too: how to clean and sharpen your hedge trimmer!

    Thanks for explaining the differences between the models and the demonstration on how to best use them. Found the battery life demo VERY informative.

      Awesome! Mine is still holding strong... in fact I need to get back out there soon to trim some hedges--they are getting out of control again!

    I had an issue with the switch. It either wouldn’t turn on or I had to turn the trimmer upside down for it to work. I took it apart & put it back together & it seems to work fine now.
    I’ve owned it for about 18 months & it works well, at least when the switch will cooperate.

    I purchased this craftsman pole hedge trimmer in May 2022. It served me well trimming my 9 foot hedge from ground level. The battery charge lasted without fading for my trimming duration.
    It worked well trimming some smaller branches from my jane magnolia. I attempted to trim my 5 foot English Laurel shrubs , which is dense. This trimmer could not do the job. I completed my trimming by reverting back to my electric Stihl trimmer and some manual hedge clippers.

    Is there an extension for these? I have been unable to find one. Bought one of these at an auction for $8.25 with no battery (I have 5 of the 2 Ah batteries, so no problem). Just tried it out and it worked great for the tops of two tall yew trees. I need to get into them and do some serious trimming with some loppers but this bought me a little time before i have to do that. Thanks for the video.

    Your V20 pole hedge trimmer appears to have collar. Does the pile telescope? If so, how long is it when extended, and how does it handle when fully extended?

    Chris I have noticed on these pole hedge trimmers there is a lot of movement where the edger meets the pole. My concern is when the edger snags up on a cut theunit will dive away from your grip on the pole gouging the bush. What say you? TIA.

    • @chris

      @@chris thanks for the quick response. Ironically I had a brand new one in my hand this morning without a battery at a flea mkt. for $30. I left it there because of the wobble. When I got home my research brought me to your post. Hopefully it is still available next week. 😀

      I don't think so but I know dewalt makes one that use interchangeable attachments it has 20v I think there is also a 60v new lineup but not sure if they makes it. But those 60v batteries are interchangeable between 20v and 60v.

    Hedge trimmers are the absolute incorrect way to trim hedges. You should’ve used loppers and cut it back with those and clippers, not hedge trimmers. Yes it takes longer, but you won’t have to do it every weekend either!

    • @chris
      @chris  3 роки тому +5

      Got it: don't use hedge trimmers for hedge trimming 😂 I get what you're saying though. Considering my hedge hasn't been trimmed in many many years, I'm not all that concerned about it looking great every week (it's buried on the side of my house). Thanks for watching!

    • @KendrasEdge757
      @KendrasEdge757 3 роки тому +1

      Chris Duke lol pretty much, yes, don’t use hedge trimmers for trimming hedges. No reputable landscaper uses them. When you use a hedge trimmer your conditioning the bush to grow in a way that’s unnatural. That’s why you see entire sides of them turning brown and the inside of the bushes have no green and are all stalks and they only have green along the outside edges. When you use hand clippers you cut methodically down lower on the stock and that thins out the bush therefore allowing sun to reach into the bush and you end up with shrubs that are thick, have green leaves all throughout and all around healthier. You also don’t have to trim them half as often as when you use hedge trimmers. People use them because they’re quicker and they don’t know any better. They see hedge trimmers as the only tool at the store that mentions hedges so they assume it’s the only tool for that. It actually not the tool at all and only made to generate income. Now it does take longer doing it correctly, but only the first couple of times. After that it doesn’t take any time and you don’t need to do it as often. I know you know all of this and all of that, but just explaining for those watching/reading that don’t know all of this.and yes I could tell you didn’t care about aesthetics lol you CLEARLY just wanted them cut back lol and I can definitely understand that!!

      @@chris it's still on the website but i heard from craftsman themselves it's discontinued. lowes doesn't sell anything from v60. you can only find leftover supply of some v60 from certain dealers. but yes it's discontinued. I love the v60 line and craftsman shouldn't have killed it. they were having battery issues. craftsman this year concentrated on their v20 outdoor line.

    • @ckcuev
      @ckcuev 3 роки тому +1

      also 3000 series tool storage has been discontinued. craftsman told me that a 4000 series will replace 3000 series. some stores still have 3000 series chests in stock. i called lowes corporate to sell me the 3000 series 63" workstation at a heavily discounted price. they agreed and we agreed on a price. it was a great purchase.

    • @chris
      @chris  3 роки тому +1

      I just asked my contacts at CRAFTSMAN (the people that manage the brand) and they confirmed that the V60 line has NOT been discontinued. I'm not sure where you're getting your information. It's not in Lowe's anymore, but it is still at Amazon and their website. If you're talking with Lowe's, then that makes sense. But Lowe's is not CRAFTSMAN :)

    • @chris
      @chris  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the 3000 series has been discontinued, but your claims about a 4000 series is not true. My direct contacts at CRAFTSMAN have confirmed there are no plans at this time for a 4000 series, but they do have other upcoming launches which I cannot mention at this time.
