    things K series guys wont have to worry about for another 20 years since K is much more popular than D series has ever been so demand will be there. I doubt anyone will step up for D series parts as demand is low....even B series are unwanted these days.

    • @RefineMovement
      @RefineMovement  4 роки тому

      Yeah, K really is the way and has been for the last what, 10 years or whatever its been. It has such a huge aftermarket for it. D and B just have run their course in the parts department.

      @@RefineMovement Props to you for still planning to build your d-series! 🍺 It's quite easy to build a quick k-series motor since it's already quick out of the box, slap in a VTC gear upgrade, a good header (PLM Toda copy is good enough) and do some ECU remapping and it can already be competitive for circuit.
      But I guess the nice challenge in building a d-series NA motor is squeezing every bit from an underdog motor that's been built for primarily for economy. I've followed some great d-series builds and have taken down notes through the years that may help you with your project, just let me know how I can send them to you.

      D series was one the best selling engines in 88-00. If. Wasn’t for the D you wouldn’t have B or K. So respect the D series it paved the way for engineering :)

  • @carrizosa20

    Not only the parts are becoming harder to find, let's take it a bit further with the actual cars themselves are becoming harder to find in good shape or even for a reasonable price. I think we'll eventually look into a totally different chasis to swap these engines into such as how ghost boy aki is now swapping a k series into a rx8

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 Рік тому +1

      I agree, but why would someone want to swap a D series into another chassis? Obviously they are very good engines for what they are, but good enough to be worth swapping into another chassis? Not really IMO. The K series is a different story though, they are seriously impressive engines even by modern standards.

    Just to make things a bit more confusing, the Z style engines were used way longer than '95 in certain markets.
    I own a EUDM, 6th gen Civic Fastback. They only existed here in Europe and were kind of a missing link between 5th and 6th gen, parts wise. Many parts are mixed and matched, examples:
    - My model year is '95-'00, but I've got a Z style engine in there
    - The exhaust is 50% 5th gen hatch parts
    - The suspension is partially 6th gen parts
    Btw, I went with an ACL Pump, I hope it will serve me well. :)

    You could punch a hole and use a Z6 dip stick on you Y engine, OR just use a D17 valve cover and dip stick.
    EDIT:
    Another note, I recall you mentioning your D16A type oil pump having a larger drive- the oil pump drive on the crankshaft snout was larger?
    In that case- without having measure it or anything, because I've never experienced that before- I'd make the guess that a D17 oil pump could be used, if they're still being produced and the OBD2 D16 pumps aren't. Wouldn't be a very expensive experiement, you can find cheapass pumps on eBay for like $30 USD- wouldn't hold them to be reliable, though.

    • @RefineMovement
      @RefineMovement  4 роки тому

      interesting things you bring up! That would be something if the d17 pump fit it. You recall it right, the D16a oil pump has a bigger opening to fit around the crank than a y7/y8 has

    • @jefflarson4117
      @jefflarson4117 4 роки тому +1

      I like the idea of drilling the dip stick hole. That seems like it would be pretty straight forward. Also I mentioned earlier that melling makes an oil pump for the y7/y8.

    If someone can help that would be great. So my 99 y8 stock engine got ruined because my oil pump seized up. I got another engine with around 170000 miles and the oil pump is not seized up. I'm doing a factory oem complete engine rebuild and have been questioning if I should use this pump. The gears spin freely and not get bound up but still not completely sure if I should. Does anyone feel that in engine stock form just using the useable pump will be ok????

    • @RefineMovement
      @RefineMovement  4 роки тому +1

      D16Z6 actually has some aftermarket options which is great. I guess it being an "Si" engine it got more aftermarket support. ACL makes a Z6 oil pump and other companies port those out even too. As far as new Yamada pumps, I don't think they would be available anymore though. Something to look into.

      Man I don't know, thats going to be personal preference. For my money, I don't think I would do B-series. @@RefineMovement so it's global, T_T, i really enjoying my car with this d series, it has really good gas mileage, but has good power too. i have it 5 years now, still got problem, need to change clutch and some oil leaking problem (it's quite some price for me ) but i gonna fix it slowly one by one. and for oil pump i search in my local online store, there still many in the list, and its really quite expensive for me to stock one. maybe after i buy clutch and other things, i will saving up and buy one for future. and maybe next time i will ask my mechanic to check either the oil pump is still in good condition or has aging and will need to replace in sometimes. btw we have B series from first gen CRV, but non vtec, and yeah we never got b series for civic, and worst we never got civic coupe, crx, dc2, its really really rare in here, that type only have under 5 for each model in here. its more rare than gallardo you know hahahaha..

    Well what about for the H series the famous h22A block or that Euro R H22A block are those pumps running out too? Dammm those H series can move and not only that, not too many people has H series so new pumps must be stock up full. d series and B series are the epics swaps in the Honda history now K series are taking over. I’m on my 30s another 20years with K series before their parts stops producing, i will be old grandpa pissing myself and not looking to race anymore besides aftermarket company’s like Ktuned they have their own water pumps and many parts available for K so I should say, 30 years before the CEO Sells the Ktuned company or Hybrid Racing people CEO gets old too & they do want to retired sale the company get paid and move on. K series it’s the way to go, as I say before nothing last forever. RIP dseries & bseries hahahaaa good thing I sold my b20V series swap last week lol good timing hahahaaa
