Everyone says you need to create “better” content than your competitors. While it’s sound advice, what does “better” mean?
It’s subjective, and in the marketing world, the phrase has become a cliche. And most people make the mistake of evaluating their competitors’ content through their own personal lenses. They decide whether it's good or bad based on personal opinion.
To solve this, we need a framework that’ll allow us to compare content objectively. A framework that’ll allow us to judge pages and remove personal biases.
Not only will this help us create "better" content, but it can also help achieve a desired outcome.
The four criteria we use to assess content quality are:
► Content clarity
► Content depth
► Usefulness
► Presentation
You’ll learn what these four attributes mean and how you can use them to evaluate content.

Awesome and useful video, as usual! At 3:26 when you're showing the 'best garden hoses' SERP, you see evidence of the current trend of news sites creating low-quality affiliate pages or straight-up selling the service of posting someone else's affiliate content on their site - effectively abusing their strong domain rating/authority they've built up as news sites. Any thoughts on that?
1 point might be missing: Positioning. What makes your content different from the others. And I really like Ahref but they also might miss that point as their difference with their competitor's content isn't that obvious.
what do you mean by "positioning"? Is it the level of comprehending the subject of users like "how to make money online"? From beginners - who knows nothing about it => to someone who already has a list of methods?

Hi sam I agree with all the things that you shared, But as you can see all the pages you have shared have a lack of detailed information into their articles but just because they have high DR they are ranking in the top 10 google searches. If I want to make a detailed article around the same keyword, then I have to do more research and want to have more backlinks as a beginner in order to get views. is there any way google prefers content over DR.
Google says they don't look at domain authority (if you believe it.)

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 8 months ago about self development. Now I have 1,048 subs and > 800 hours of watch time. " The competition of a keyword is actually a relative matter. It depends on the domain authority of a site whether a keyword is competitive to it or not. A page ranks with the help of the domain authority, internal links and incoming links. It is often found that a strong site can easily rank its internal pages even for the competitive term, whereas a site with weak authority may find it difficult to rank a less competitive term even with some backlinks.
So the term no competition, low competition or high competition is relative to your site."

I would add, be clear about target audience and positioning. Focus on getting to reflect what is important to the customer. What do they aspire to be and what is the roadblock. This will help you to be user focused

You recommended adding interesting “deep” sections to make the content more engaging for users. These ideas are based on “assumptions”, so AB testing is important to understand what users really want. Just because something adds value to the blog page doesn't mean users will care about it. To wrap it up, it's important to do user research before creating content. Consider looking into the design thinking process for help.

Nice video, but I also include tiered content to help shape user experience. For instance, one article may summarize main points, another article that discusses experiences or related concepts, and possibly a whole series of articles that dive into the original article's details. "Better" content is also synonymous with the oft bandied phrase "good user experience."

I have a bit of a problem. I made this UA-cam Rewind video for 2021. I tried following the keyword and tag algorithm, like making my own keywords that say "youtube rewind best of 2021", and "youtube rewind 2021 but it's actually good".
I figured because it hasn't happened yet, the keywords would be new and fresh, but all it does is take a back seat to videos not about 2021 so I took it down, trying to come up with various methods.
Does anyone have any tips on how to promote my video? Should I schedule it for December instead, or should I just be patient? I would really appreciate some suggestions.
It all depends on what people are searching for on UA-cam. 2021 is not over yet, so a rewind video for 2021 seems too early and searchers are probably not looking for such videos yet. You'd be better off waiting.

I think first you just need to post ton of videos to get comfortable on camera. Plus, it's exciting to see some videos pick up. Then you naturally want to continue doing it and making better videos.

So it means if someone wants to write the best x for y post he must buy 10 - 15 products in order to review them?
let's say I am reviewing the top 10 circular saws do I need to buy 10 circular saws?
if that's the case then it is impossible for newbies to get any results.
Its hard to do reviews on physical products, specially when they are costly.
Bottom line, either you take it as an investment or your top dog competition will have a better piece of content than you.
It would be disingenuous to "review" a product without actually using them.

Can a small creator realistically make several quality original pictures (and videos!) for each blog post? And while I recognize the value, do we know that Google rewards this level of effort?
You don't necessary have to produce high-quality graphics. WaitButWhy is a site that's succeeding despite only drawing "stick" figures (although one can say it's part of his brand now.) We invest resources into producing high-quality images and videos not just because of SEO, but because we think it'll help our customers.
