That is NOT The Spaniard, which was a limited release of 360 bottles in 2018 at 46% ABV, it is The Story of The Spaniard, which is part of the core range released in batches at 43% and it should only be about $60, not $80.
You got ‘em buddy!!! Good job! Take a break you’ve earned it.
@@David-xn3kd you're right, it's not at all important that they got the bottle wrong. Who cares what they're actually drinking...
Butler did it!
Go mate one for the English. 😊I think the forfeit should be a pledge to King Charles to sip some Laphroaig Select. Quarter Cask if your feeling Generous.😂
@@IvIidnight you're missing the point. The OP was just pointing out that they're using the wrong name and stats Daniel pulled. For those of us who aren't just rando fanboys and actually care what they're saying and use these videos to learn about whisky and maybe consider buying something, it matters. The OP wasnt mocking them. He was simply correcting an error.
I know it’s not whiskey, but The Real McCoy Rum blew my socks off with how whiskey like it is. Love the show
Blended Malts are not often as budget as Blended Scotches. Many of the IBs who are creating Blended Malts are doing so with an eye for craftsmanship, in my experience.
Story of the Spaniard (had the first edition in 2018) was really rich for me through the first half, but the further into the bottle I got, it started to go flat.
However...a dash or two into a pour of something peated?!
OMG! Tried it with Wee Beastie and with Ballechin 10, and both combos were yum!
I’ve got to say Rex has become a whiskey connoisseur over the year 😁
As for a cocktail to feature the Spaniard? I'd try something like a Rob Roy. With the Spanish wine influence, I'd go light on the Vermouth (or go dry instead of sweet) and get creative with an earthier bitters. Maybe Aztec Chocolate or Black Walnut.
I'd also consider doing it as a smoked cocktail.
Could be interesting in an Old Fashioned, though, go light on sweetener and earthy for the bitters. ❤
The Spaniard is my favorite Compass Box! Heavy sherry and sweet red fruits in a super mellow blend 🤤
Same. I especially liked the wine notes that are not just sherry
Same here, followed by the Glasgow
I have not drunk much for many years. I had been a beer guy, but I had stomach surgery and now I can't have carbonation. I like wine, but if I open a bottle I won't drink much of it before it goes off. Whisky and cocktails just never did it for me. That was until last week. After a couple of weeks of watching Whisk(e)y Vault/Tribe episodes, I picked up a bottle of Ardbeg Uigadial (sp?). I know it's not supposed to be a "beginners" whisky, but I loved the huge flavor and drama of it.
I think that I never got into whiskies because I didn't know what was good and was always afraid to spend good money on a bottle I didn't know if I'd like. Knowing what you guys and tribe think is really good is a great guide.
A couple of days later, I picked up a bottle of Angel's Envy. It's good, but I think I'll try WT101 when it's gone.
Next purchase: Redbreast.
Thanks for all you do!
enjoy your journey... and remember rule number one..
drink what you like the way you like.. (what others think doesn't matter)
@@robviousobviously5757 It doesn't matter, but it IS a good way to get leads on new things!
You should love the Redbreast…
I know I do.
The 12 year CASK STRENGTH is my favorite…
The 15 is exceptional as well… but even more pricy.
2 other suggestions…
Oban 14…
And Bunnahabhain 12.
Solid scotches.💪👍🥃
@@BillMcGirr Thanks for the recommendations!
Glad you loved the ugie !! Its A beast for sure , if you love huge flavors try some springbank ! Its co pletly different but for sure has A great complex punch !
This sounds like a good whiskey to put in a toddy. The dark fruits of a sherried whiskey really shine in a hot drink and pairs well with lemon if you're using it
I bought this bottle a couple of years ago and didn’t really care for the taste at the time, but thanks to this episode I gave it another try and my palette must have changed because it’s better than I remembered. Glad I didn’t toss it. Cheers
Compass Box in a cocktail?
I see a Whiskey Tribe episode coming up😉
A distillery near the town of Aberlour is probably Aberlour itself but Macallan is also close by (about halfway between Aberlour and Craigellachie from memory)
I have two bottles of the same bottle from the UK I was always curious before I opened one right when I seen this video I ran to my whiskey vault lol and found them nice video much appreciative
Actually when I drink abosolo, I think of grits. Grits are made of hominy which is made using the nixtamilzation process.
Ive been working on a bottle of this for about a year now and i have the same complaint. The finish is lacking but the flavor up front is truly beautiful.
I really loved this one, and the Orchard House is great too. I don't think they use that many different whiskies, not if you consider that your average blend could consist of literally dozens of whiskies.
I love this one! It’s my go to scotch now when having a cigar.
On the topic of Abasolo, not just that it’s a corn whiskey but the corn is “nixtamalizado” which is the same process as what’s used to make the “masa”. Not sure that process applies to other corn whiskey.
Masa is the signature note I get in almost everything Balcones does, including their malt whisky. Interesting to hear somebody find masa in a whisk[e]y. Cheers!
Ever try Bain's Cape Mountain Whiskey from South Africa?
I always found it interesting that all of the cultures that use corn as a staple discovered the nixtamilization process. By raising the pH, you make th B vitamins in corn more available and it is more nutritious. Masa and hominy are both made using this process usually by adding some ash from a fire to the corn
I have yet to try this one, definitely want to add to the collection.
Appreciate the video. Yet another Whiskey going to have to find & try.
“Do you want me to spit in your mouth?” 😂😂😂 5:00
I fucking love you, man.
Watched this right before going to a compass box tasting. Y’all are right on with blueberry on the nose and that the palate could use more oomph
One of my favorites
The guys mentioned the 'art of blending' and creating blends that aren't budget. I recently heard about a new blend : Ardray. It would be great to get a review of that.
when someone askes me what my fav whisky is.... I say compassbox... .ANY OF THEM.... have tried 4 and have 5 unopened and love the 4, im sure will love the other 5... amazing things.
Story of the Spaniard is decent, not my favorite Compass Box but it holds its own. The finish is fast it’s a little subdued. I’d imagine earlier batches were better.
That’s how I feel about everything they make I’ve tried sadly
Compass Box THE SPANIARD retails for about $49 in Taiwan, and I still like this distillery and will consider buying other products from this distillery but not this one. Thank you for the tasting video.
Anyone know if they have tried any of the Lost Distillerery Company blends? They are all of distillerys that went out of business over 100 years ago. Amazing blends.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
Happy Monday Morning MB’s!!!!
I spy on that shelf there, there is a bottle of the compass box ultramarine. I would love to see a review on that.
Thanks for the video as well guys 🥃
Rex to his kidnappers in Mexico: “BUT I’M BONAFIDE!”
I N teresting take!
and a F A S cinating dent on the CB-fame.
I have yet to have my first CB sip! And I soon will. Good to have your take put a damper on my expectations!
I always thought that Canada was the northern Mexico. Huh, Who new you didn't have to go that far.
Ahhhhhhhhh whiskey !
I'm 44, lived in London my whole life and I have never been to Ireland, Scotland or Wales.
Scotch and not random bourbon!
Quick check: it's only 40 here in Germany. Much easier to swallow (har) at that abv and mixer at that price point.
40 Euros, or 40 usd at current exchange rates?
Actually, after looking it up, it's only a 10% premium.... When did the Euro hit near-parity with Burgerbux?
I was looking in Euros, but you're right, it's been hovering just above and below parity for several years now. Meanwhile, we started getting Balcones, Angel's Envy and other good'n's over here lately. Still waiting on Stagg Jr., and of course, Crowded Barrel though...
Whisk{e}yDo Whisk{e}y Way. Much like Taekwondo hapkido the do is the way aka path. Just a thought. Cheers & gratz, and many years y'all.
I did! (No I didn't. I'd like a pour though, lol...)
Do you think that is what Heather is trying to do at Milan and Greene?
Heather definitely has a flair for crafting blends. Have tried a few of her releases, and they have all been tasty.
"Compass Box of America" so Lost Lanterns?
At this point, how far could Rex get in the Somm program?
"You keep going left. "I don't know why." Well, you are in Austin.😁
So they make blends that go for the same price of single malts?
It's the equivalent of $40 where I live. You are getting fleeced in the US on this one !
Rex is absolutely Lady Gaga
"do you want me to spit in your mouth?" Hahaahahahahaahahahahahahaahahahhaahah
So Rex, does that mean you would have our own Tribe cartel down in Mexico and if so, would we be smuggling in (what type of spirit)
Bang
From my understanding Compass Box put out this release to compensate for taking Spice Tree off the market.
Wait no more spice tree? That was my fave!
@@surfacingcom It was either Spice Tree or one of their other basic offerings. I guess they had trouble sourcing whiskey for one of them and had to make the change.
Why use this as a mixer? That's just crazy!
all this corn talk has me wondering about a whisky made with that blue/multi-coloured ornimental corn
Compass box no name 3 is one of my favorites. This might not be.
$49 right now.
"Blendingk" lol drink!
Rex rose fully formed.
Trash can cam! Do it!
I really wasn't a fan of the Spaniard, not my cup of tea... er whiskey
Feels like they’re just winging these videos lately
"Want me to spit in your mouth?"
Don't thrraten me with a good time
