Post Office: Former executive accused of lying to inquiry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 кві 2024
- The inquiry into the Horizon IT scandal has heard that the Post Office's first reaction to the suicide of a subpostmaster it accused of stealing was to hire a media lawyer to protect its reputation.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
It came as former top executive Angela van den Bogerd tested the patience of the inquiry's barristers. One branded her evidence "word soup". Another accused her of lying throughout her two days of testimony.

She's evil. A far more ruthless criminal than most of the people already behind bars.
Vicious
She is foul mouthed. Utterly disgusting
Agree, the very worst criminals are to be found wearing business attire.
I would sooner be in jail with Fred West than her.
Proisrael said in front of media cameras: "We are afraid and feel unsafe about this demonstration😢". but they stood watching at a close distance and even broke through the pro-Palestinian demonstration😂😂😂😂😂😂n
Disgraceful woman absolutely no remorse……

D bitterness is so ugly in her
She’s making herself look repellent
Sadly I do not think she cares how she looks does not appear to have any shame in their role in destroying peoples lives @@s.j.bluewater908

This vile woman is guilty of perjury. What is the law waiting for?

@@ilokiviReally? Don't hold your breath. They are purposely dragging it out in hopes of people dieing off and others just forgetting it all together.
every one not giulty to die cant you tell.the tory are looking at this like covid and the dwp files .they wait long anough no one left to point it out only tory voters left .
It’s a blessing and a miracle she remembered to turn up at the inquiry given her poor memory for everything else.
lol
Just waiting for the mental stress defence.
100%
So far, it’s only Alan Bates who can remember details. The execs are scum. I despised the lawyer, Rodric Williams who smirked, laughed, and deflected his whole way through his evidence. He will defo go. Utter contempt for the Sub Post staff.
Like the shopkeeper said, if he can remember, why can’t all the “officials “ employed or engaged in their jobs? Shame on them.
No surprises here ,she's been well rehearsed by her legal team and has no intention of revealing her culpability or admitting any guilt.
But when the Inquiry is complete and the chairman publishes the report it will be damning. I am certain that the Inquiry team see exactly the same as you and I see - the lies, the blame-shifting, the deflection, but they have the paper trail that shows exactly the culture of denial and who is responsible. That will certainly result in prosecutions. I say this because the core participants,m those who ask questions at the end, are ruthless and frank in accusing these charlatans of lying, and openly blame them of perjury. They would not do that if they thought they were not on very safe ground.
@@srp01983I wish I had you're faith.
@@wendysimpson6395 I wouldn’t have said all that before Xmas, but since he airing of the ITV drama the mood of the public has changed. The judiciary and the police know it. The current government have done little apart from make some noises but since most of them are corrupt they won’t actually do anything. the partyline was to scare his wife into accepting pittence for a nda .through fear of getting nothing at all if she spoke.a women who seen every thing taken from her to boost the desires of paula vennals who must of known a sunak who funding her court cases had conflict of interest in the company.
If she and Vennells isn’t ultimately jailed it means the law and justice are completely corrupted!!!

A very slippery woman who, apparently, "only wanted to get at the truth". Even Jason Beer, no doubt exasperated by her deflection and poor recall, at one point asked her, "So what _was_ your job?"
Did she reply 'I dont remember...?'
Vennels must be trembling in her cycling shoes knowing what she faces shortly. Jail them all!
Still the he Reverend Venal C of E .
And now!!!!
Bet her priestly collar is feeling a bit tight about now
I disagree that Vennells is trembling in her cycling shoes. Psychopaths always hold themselves guiltless.
she got her gods to protect her the tory party.they done a real good job for 20 years .
Her lie 'it didn't register with me' was so callous. Her whole demeanour chilled me.
She was only interested in taking vast wads of cash from the Sub-postmasters cash registers !!!
Wendy, you felt chills because you were watching a psychopath in action. She is a typical psychopath in a suit. Normal people automatically recoil from them.
Shes good at word play isnt she.....another one is that "she didnt spot the disconnect"....all corporate bs speak without just saying yes or no
She is a classic Sociopath, cold, scheming, devoid of empathy for anyone, save herself.
Tip Corporate Exec…..
Middle management in Britain is absolutely full of these people
When you reach middle management you will understand why these people are like this.
@jjefferyworboys8138 You literally have no idea who I am or what I do, which in this case, is absolutely hilarious.
You are spot on. I've been saying this for some years now.
Totally agree and I have seen it time and time again in schools. Stories made up to get rid of staff mostly teachers but not only teachers. Usually those that are highly experienced, union members and not willing to toe the party line.
Watching the appalling lies from these heinous people demonstrates the Post Office was/is rotten to the core.
First question outside the inquiry: Are you going to remember more today?
She needs to be up before a court, facing a lengthy sentence.
That kind of questioning by a journalist always makes me uncomfortable. There has been a trend for about 30 years now to put the journalist center stage and to be provocative in news reporting. What is the point of asking a question like that when the person being questioned is not going to respond (except with a prepared generic statement). It's 'sound bite' journalism, instead of factual reporting.
@@Karlos.xx.travels Plus it lets her know that everyone has seen through the tissue of lies. She has spent her life in an office spouting corporate bullpoop and bullying people, now she’s learning what people really think of her.
@@CaminoAir I get where you're coming from and I can think of other examples where i'd agree re journalists. But the main takeaway from the previous day here had been her inability to recall events, emails she'd received, briefings she'd given, etc - so asking a question pertaining to her memory was a fairly neat way to summarise to the viewer that the issue with this witness is her inability to recall events / information / facts.
Angela, can you remember your way back home?
No sign of any emotion, no regret or admission of any fault and quick to push the blame onto others. Took a bonus every year while innocent's went to jail or took their own life's in total desperation while she looked on. Lied to sub postmasters lied to JFSPM lied to mp,s lied to justice Frasier in court. Stripe her of all her bonuses from the time she knew about remote excess 2011 and Lock her up and throw away the keys. Horrid woman.
Yes, a typical psychopath in a suit.
Classic Sociopath traits.
All her bonuses must be returned and most of her salary as well. Clearly she didn't do anything in the way of work, just sat around in an office ignoring all documents put in front of her, made no effort to check on whether Horizon was robust, made no effort to check what Fujitsu were doing. Beats me why she was employed as she apparently had no proper job, did no work, understood nothing, ignored everything that happdened, going on her answers at the enquiry.
i did seem emotion the pure anger of having to answer questions .rishi should of given them more help and hired hitmen for her.
Only one thing to do with her…. Send her to jail.
its hard to discribe this woman without swearing, she shows no empathy at all to all the
victims lives she has helped distroy, freeze all of her assetts now, bank account, pensions
and any property she owns and use it towards compensating those that she has wronged,
then put her in front of a judge and jury, and when found guilty the judge should lock her up
for the maximum amount of time he can, shes lied to judges allready so any judge worth
their salt should make a example of her and everyone else involved.
I am 68 and I remember falling out of my highchair, my first day a school, getting my tonsils out, my first date, my first car. and the name of my Mum & Dads budgie! Is there a reason why one after another the people called to this enquiry from the Post Office don't recall anything significant in their past?
It means none of them is employable as either they have Alzheimers or they are liars. But I bet all who don't end up in jail will go on to well paid top jobs and do them as badly as they have done their earlier jobs. Cronyism is rife in this country
Criminal prosecutions are needed
👍👏👏
And payback of bonuses.
Criminal prosecutions was given out to the right people the p.o. and the tory needed to be jailed .this is why we are here.900 of them sub post master broke bad acording to the courts .and the media went into over time to brand innacent people on repeat ,trying to get the public on the side of yet another tory lie.
Criminal cover up.
..and no doubt the govt is fully supportive of the cover up and F*** the victims!
It’s rare to witness someone who exudes such an aura of contempt and evil ….God help all those postmasters and their families , they deserve massive compensation
We need police investigation put her. in front of a court and let her tell her lies to a judge
a high court judge has already called her a liar, not in so many words but he's said it
Why is this a inquiry and not a trial?
The Inquiry was launched more than two years ago, and will conclude this Autumn. Any trial(s) will be separate matters, no doubt greatly helped by the recommendations/findings from the Inquiry. The police are already investigating certain individuals, and any legal proceedings will no doubt be instigated by them in due course.
@@ftumschkI hope they all face true justice or the justice they meted out to the poor sub-postmasters at the very least.
Because they have different objectives.
The purpose of the inquiry is to investigate and find out what happened.
A criminal trial is testing people's behaviour against criminal law.
Two very different things.
In theory it is possible that as evidence is revealed in the inquiry, that it may be discovered criminal offences have been committed which could be prosecuted later. Then criminal trials may result.
But you can't prosecute unless you have evidence. If you do that, the court case will collapse and be a complete waste of tax payers' money.
this is a statutory inquiry and it does not have full prosecutorial powers, however since evidence is given under oath, if, in the findings, the head of the inquiry feels that perjury has been committed then criminal charges will follow, from the way things are going quite a lot of people will be imprisoned, and if evidence is related to any prosecutions any recommendation as to criminal charges will be acted upon
The very definition of institutionalised corporate corruption...
Her face gives herself away.
Her face looks like its had the makeup applied by a cricket bat.
They knew it was all wrong but did nothing, Fake apologies, still no empathy or shame…..They all look guilty…..All covering their own backs….Prison.
As one who visits the U.K. on a regular basis, I’ve always believed that fair play is a fundamental part of the British character. After watching “Mr. Bates vs the Post Office” and the ongoing hearings, I am stunned that such a terrible wrong could occur. Lame and insincere apologies mean nothing. There must be justice and accountability.
Ja mieszkam teraz w UK i boję się że mnie może kiedyś coś takiego spotkać

Terrible human being
An Evil woman
Was a very interesting hearing. At one point she wholly contradicted one of her own emails when it was right up on the screen and the entire room was reading it (as well as, hopefully, police and future lawyers of the innocent SPMs who will be able to begin EXTREMELY expensive prosecutions soon.)
Quite curious to see someone who's existed in an entire professional career so utterly cornered, yet cannot quite cope with reality and believes EVEN NOW that lying and evasion and business-speak will save her from a well-deserved financial ruin when she's prosecuted over and over and over and over again by the families of the dead and ruined SPMs she's wilfully had a hand in prosecuting. Oh well, she can exist in denial all the way to that final bankruptcy hearing before she goes to jail. We don't need her denial, we have EVIDENCE.
Tick tock Angela...
Yes, we are counting down the hours...
I've watched a few live sessions with Jason Beer asking the questions and he's been brilliant. Slowly, calmly and methodically picking apart the Post Office people's inconsistencies and weak excuses.
She’s not believable
Ignorance isnt a defence
I am afraid it is.
Not in a criminal court it isn't, as you are expected to know what laws apply to you.
Here, this is not a criminal trial, it is a statutory enquiry. In this type of enquiry, witnesses are sworn in under oath so if they lie they can be charged with perjury.
If they refuse to cooperate they can be fined or imprisoned.
But fundamentally, in this type of proceedings, the inquiry is not testing these people and their behaviours against criminal law. That's the purpose of a criminal court, not an inquiry.
Her legal team done a great job but despite that came across as1 nasty peice of work devoid of any remorse
Go directly to jail. Do not pass go.
she should be in jail . She look cold & uncaring .
Totally agree but being cold and uncaring is not a crime. However, she has broken the criminal law by lying under oath and therefore guilty of perjury. Life would be justice!
This individual makes me sick. No ethics or principles. Could not tell the truth if she tried. She needs to receive a hefty prison sentence. Please let justice prevail!!!
She has clearly been told not to incriminate herself, you will get the same from Paula when she comes to the inquiry, they both are fully aware of what will be coming their way after this inquiry.
Make a good MP when the lips are moving you can see the lies flowing out.
She should be in prison, and for a long long time.
A very difficult day of questioning to watch.
Jason Beers was obviously having to control his emotions when questioning this awful woman.
Hopefully when the disgusting Paula Vennells dragged before the inquiry then Jason Beers will just tear her apart.
Nothing than plain evil. And if seems that she is still being prompted by her evil legal team.
Van den Bogerd has a lawyer present at the inquiry, who’s paying for that?
🤔🤔🤔
A six figure salary will help!
Ermmmmmm .........the cost comes out of the £100MILLION of OUR taxpayers money given to the PO by the tories !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to 'PROTECT THE BRAND', ....That is after all what this trial is all about, 'PROTECTING THE PO BRAND' at all costs !
Not that Slag that’s for sure
Disgusting, I cannot understand why she's not in jail.
Despicable woman. Not an utter sign of remorse. No admittance of wrongdoing. If the police do not look into this then there is no justice, for anyone.
The police probably will investigate, however that is no guarantee of a prosecution.
Judge Peter Fraser criticised Van De Bogherd her testimony and said she "did not give me frank evidence, and sought to obfuscate matters, and mislead me".
Beer KC, lead counsel to the inquiry, challenged Ms van den Bogerd's opening statement, as he accused her of not saying sorry for her own role in the scandal…
Where is the money the Post Office has taken Fraudulently. Give it back now.
Lost in system but paid out in bonuses probably.
Money made its way into their bonuses.
There's no emotion, no remorse.
Psychopaths are incapable of feeling remorse.
@@philhart4849 You mean sociopaths, I know Im one.
Cold. Evil. Criminal.
The third has yet to be proven and sadly probably won't be.
Those poor people and what they went through, just appalling. It’s clear for all to see what actually happened.
All the more unbelievable that those responsible can’t accept that what they did was wrong.
Katherine Kelly Lang played her brilliantly in the ITV drama, although her portrayal was way too soft. This is a hardened, unethical, despicable woman.
I do hope those nice people in that Oxfordshire Village beg that Family's forgiveness ! :D
I find the reaction of some in the local "communities" almost as chilling as the attitude of the Post Office.
It would be interesting to see them step forward and justify what made them so certain at the time of the Post Masters guilt.
I listened to her for a few minutes yesterday and all I could hear was waffle. She's spent her working life denying and deflecting and being economical with truth that when straight talking is needed she doesn't know how.
Jail is too good for Mrs V D B and many of the other Post Office Ltd. officials.
There’s a far too common theme with most of these POL officials when being questioned regarding incriminating details, “they can’t remember”. Or, when they are presented with an email that they received from years ago showing that they knew only too well what was going on, they happened not to have read the said email or didn’t take on board the emails content.
Again, jail is too good for many of the other Post Office Ltd. officials
If you listen to her evidence she was responsible for nothing, however if you read her LinkedIn profile she was responsible for almost everything including post office contracts
Everyone likes to make themselves sound important even if they aren't.
By her own admission she was negligently incompetent, in that she failed to engage with the truth. Electing to be morally and ethically bankrupt by being part of the mechanism of vindictive falsehoods, and cover up to put the PO reputation above that of the truth.
To add to her negligence and vindictive actions, she repugnantly and knowingly signing a statement of truth that she knew was far from the truth, with far and reaching consequences to the victimes.
THAT IS PERGURY, an AFRONT TO COURT, and FRAUD FOR GAIN.
“We know they are lying, they know they are lying, they know we know they are lying, we know they know we know they are lying, but they are still lying.” - Attributed to Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn
Selective amnesia
Through out the inquiry she presented that she was trying so hard to help the sub-postmasters. All she was doing was in her word get to the bottom of the issues. But the evidences show that her so call help helped no one and destroyed lives instead. Her words are blatant lies. Yet she is not prosecuted. What kind of justice is this? She also conveniently forget things she was responsible for and remember very detailedly it was always other PO executives’ wrongdoing. Nothing to do with her.
She knows the game’s up
And yet still she lies!
She hasn't been charged with anything criminal, just some uncomfortable questions.

A callous calculating woman at the center of this scandal. The time in the enquiry today is a perfect example of a narcissist. Sharp as a knife...Zero emotion, zero empathy.
Pure evil, she has been part of destroying so many peoples life.
Brilliant comment from the reporter "are you going to remember more for us today?"
The cheek of her, trying to give the impression that she was trying to get compensation to the families as soon as possible when every printed record shows that she was involved in the cover up and attempts to minimise the eventual costs of compensation to the Post Office
Why didn’t the criminal justice system notice after 900 spm go to trial that this is not a strange trend?
She should be sent to prison .
She is currently working as an HR contractor employed to make 100 staff redundant at a company called Integral UK Ltd, she must be so proud of her contribution to society
She should be in jail.
If we lived in a country of ‘high moral standards’ she would not be allowed to walk the streets.
Utterly corrupt.
They should have played Peter Gabriel singing "I don't remember, I don't recall, I've got no memory of anything at all" at her when she came along.
What did we expect? She was never going to reveal the truth of the matter for fear of being prosecuted.
Anyone who thought that her performance on day one was poor should now view the absolute train wreck that was Angela's effort on the second day.

The term "word soup" is a EUPHEMISM par excellence! Nuff said.
Sorry she's exposed for her lies not for the victims.
You can see she is as hard as nails ! Not a very nice person to be in an executive position in the PO. A jail term and loss of pension sounds about right !
She needs to spend time behind bars, hopefully that would allow her to reflect and recall the suffering she has imposed.
God bless Vipin Patel and all those innocent people affected by this horrendous scandal. The execs at the Post Office are vile people.
Very selective memory! Full of lies, miss truths and denial. If she was a senior manager and missed emails then she didn’t deserve to be a senior manager! She’s covering her back to avoid possible future criminal charges!
I cannot believe people in Vipin's Oxfordshire village would set up a cross with his name on it - that's callous, cruel, and shameful.
They should be deeply embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.
She is 1of many that need to go to jail.
She was dishonest then and she is dishonest now. My heart goes out to all those families over the many years who have suffered as a result of her legacy. I hope there is a conviction in her case.
She, along with a whole host of others, need to be in front of a judge and jury, as soon as possible! Their behaviour is beyond appalling.
Fujitsu runs the software and computers in many civil service departments (including HMRC), courts services and police services. They are well protected by senior officials who are desperate to cover up widespread systemic failures.
