To me, Chocolate is one of the unsung legends of NASCAR. One of my favorite emotional moments I ever saw was after Kevin Harvick won his first Cup race driving Senior's car, just a few weeks after Dale had been killed at Daytona, and big ol' Chocolate was standing on pit road crying his eyes out. I already respected him, but I have had so much more respect for him since that moment and still do to this day.
That very moment way back when it happened LIVE really touched me too. I remember getting teared up at that exact moment when the camera was on Chocolate getting emotional.......and of course I said aloud: "Thank you Lord, this team really needed this win".
Yes! Atlanta '01! Hadn't thought about that in a while, but I know the exact image you're talking about. Really captures his whole life in that moment.
I was welcomed by "Chocolate Myers" at the Childress Museum the year it opened. Actually before the grand opening, He was so kind and welcoming . He asked where I was from, and when I told him, Wisconsin....... his next question was.......did you bring cheese curds with you. not to get stupid here, but I follow the Earnhardts not because they race, but because their family represents most families!! I totally get the connection between Dale and Kelly, my sister and I are the same........but not in the media spotlight, thank God for that!! by the way I called him out at the museum, and said hello Mr. Myer's ... he stopped in his tracks and said... " they called my daddy Mr. Myers..... they call me "Chocolate!!!" best day of my life.
@@BurnNotice2023 I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. 2001 Pepsi 400 race finish, Danny was the first guy to get to Dale Jr and his emotions were quite obvious.
@@sergeantmasson3669 I watched his podcast interview with him, it seemed like he was happy but that something was wrong too. Never heard cause of death but I wonder if they rushed that interview in because he was in bad health.
chemical lining company I used to work for, after doing a job, kinda grubby. Stopped in Charlette after a race at a diner, I had a 3 hat on, Dale bought all 4 of our dinners, I sat next to Danny. Best company I had maybe ever, great people.
There's only ONE CHOCOLATE MYERSAND HE'S PHENOMENAL AND SUPER TALENTED AND WAS SUCH AN ASSET TO NASCAR AND RCR AND THE INTIMIDATOR!!! IRREPLACEABLE!!! A PRICELESS TREASURED BLESSING 🙏💞🤗💞🙏
Chocolate is such a great story teller. Love him on Trading Paint. I don’t know a single pit crew guy in NASCAR So to me that speaks volumes about him.
I love this show. Nowhere else am I seeing and hearing the guys who were part of "The Team" I grew up idolizing. Dale, Richard, Kirk, Chocolate, Will, David, Cecil, Lou, Danny and others. The stories and insight bring me back to the days when NASCAR was still a bit rough around the edges.
I won one of Chocolate's Shirts in a raffle years ago. I could tell he was a big man from the size of it. I still have it and it's one of my prized possessions. Glad you had him on your show. He should write a book about his life. I bet it would be great reading.
Danny Myers you are the same as I remember. One of the best story tellers and a natural, high energy personality. You always attracted a crowd. And, you are a kind compassionate person. Always appreciated how you treated me when I did the team PR for Wrangler in 1986 and 1987. Your stories triggered several Dale Sr. stories I had not recollected for many years. Loved the "dish it out but can't take it" and that is an honest approximation.
Its really crazy man, you realized how short your time on earth is EXACTLY the way i did as well!! I mean it really seemed or felt like i was young for so long and then life gets so damn busy from when you turn 24-37 my current age now. What made things sink in easier was thinking about the fact that everyone is gone and my parents are next and then i am up ya know, next to pass away age wise!!! It makes you think that i haven't done enough or really made a huge difference in the world yet life is VERY short and everyone should enjoy it the best you can!
Chocolate is awesome. I remember walking into JR Motorsport a view years ago while on a business trip. I was talking to Kerry. Kelley and the girls were I the Podcast Booth and I was hoping to meet her. Then I looked over and there was Chocolate. I talked to him and loved the stories. He is a character. Best day that I had pictures made with Kerry, Kelley, and Chocolate. I only needed Junior there. They were all so kind and I consider them royalty.
My favorite Nascar moment is the Pepsi 400. I remember thinking how awesome it was that Chocolate was the first to get to Jr. and Michael's car. Great man!
Stay strong friend. Just be there for her whenever you can. I lost my daughter then my mom. It comforts me knowing that God will take care of them in a much better place!
I met Chocolate at a Habitat Restore here in Salisbury NC. Closest I got to meeting Dale. Wanted to fan boy but just said hello, sorry about his losing senior and have a nice day.
I've been overbooked a few times. My friends actually made up a wall of shame for me. lmao Those were the good ol' days. Personally, I always felt sorry for some of the girls when I'd have like 3 or 4 going on at the same time and then #5 would come along and I liked her more than I ever did any of the others so I'd break dates with them to see #5..... it would break my heart to do that.... but I did it anyway. Or the time Heidi was asleep on the couch and I was with Michelle in the bedroom. I sure wish we could live twice.....
When we lost Dale I felt terrible for the family obviously - but honestly the first 2 folks I knew would be hurt the most were Richard Childress and Chocolate Meyers - loyal friends to the end
If you don't think "Chocolate" Meyers is one of the true unsung heroes in NASCAR, you are off your ticket! True legend and just a great man...when Harvick won in his 3rd race, you saw exactly how much that meant to him as much as it did to Harvick...the man is awesome...
Anyone who's been in racing has the same stories. You go to one guy, ask for work, and he says "why don't you go check out.................." and then, it's magic. Things just happen.
Number 3 crashed at Talladega & split his sternum. I was a local tank truck driver. I had been at the track because the company I worked for gave us start-finish line tickets. The next day I'm out working and I see the number 3 car hauler. I called him on the CB Radio and ask about his condition. Then I asked if Chocolate Myers is with them. He said this is Chocolate Myers. I don't know if he was driving that truck or just in there. Anyhow if Earnhardt would drive the next race. He said the doctor told him not to. He said Dale Earnhardt tell the doctor he would be the one making that decision. it was a road track and I don't remember if he ran the entire race but I do remember he started that race.
In 2001 I cried like a baby when Dale died....Then in April my Dad started to not feel good..He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May and was dead on December 5 2001. I would have loved to see my Dan die full throttle on the last lap of the Daytona 500 instead of rotting away from cancer for 10 months. It's funny how life can put a different perspective on life and death in a flash of a minute.
Without a doubt, one of the best interviews ever. Pretty sad that Teresa has complete control over the warehouses. There are precious items there that would bring great joy to Jr's life.
Dale, don’t worry about your leaving this earth, my farther and grandfather both died at 69&70 years of age. I am going be 76 years of age on July 30 2021
What makes this podcast good, imo...is all the NASCAR 'old-timers' that have tons of stories and r so good at telling them. For me, today's NASCAR lacks that personality...too much corporate correctness and uniformity. Or...maybe I'm just old.
Cool interview 👍 Just watched the video of picking out a paint scheme for Justin Aligier. Jr you need to get into working out or yoga , something 🤷🏻♂️ You walk like your in your late 50's 🙄☮️
😂 can someone tell the USA network commentators that one of the guys needs to trim his nose hairs, he keeps blowing in the mic, just move it away from the nose😮

yes and when jr won in july back at daytona. when he was the first to make it out to jr
Damn buddy, I cry every time I see that clip!
I was rooting for Gordon to win that race at Atlanta but that year he won his final championship. What a year 01 was.

Chocolate is a legend, i still remember him being so emotional at the pepsi 400 after jr won. He’s been a great embassador to nascar

@@BurnNotice2023 FYI, Danny Chocolate Myers is still very much alive at 74 years of age. He's a host at the RCR Museum.
Danny Myers is a National Treasure. I could listen to his stories for hours

Definitely
And one of the best storytellers too. That’s o we of my favorite things about listening to him on the radio.

Dang I could listen to chocolate talk all day long.. his stories are the best and he is good at tellin' 'em.. Thanks Dale.. carry on!

Yep, I could listen too (all day) ! The evolution of NASCAR 👍👍
Danny "chocolate" Myers should be in the NASCAR HOF. He's earned it.

A good pit stop by a good crew is an amazing thing to watch, and The Flying Aces amazed me a buncha' times back in the day.
👍
Life is a gamble and some just are better at increasing their odds of success, Chocolate is definitely on of them .
Thanks for doing such a fantastic interview with Chocolate. One cool person 😎
Chocolate is such a nice guy. He took time out to talk with me and my dad at LVMS back in 2000.
Great man! I would love to sit and listen to Chocolate tell all those stories.

I'm unfortunately currently watching my mom die from cancer and 100% relate about reflecting on my own mortality.

how did he get the name Chocolate?
story time shows like this, are my favorites. not much of a fan on the politics or the new nuances of racing.

It's chocolate

Never was a Sr fan. Especially never a fan of this guy. Always the first one in a argument. Always hoped to see him get put down.
