      Yeah the list of fans of Sr seems to continue to grow which was shown by the show of support the black #3 got at the all star race and Jr got a lot of support and some more fans with not only his Cup car throw back paint scheme from his late model racing days especially with him bringing out his current race team's (which he owns) late model car which also had the throwback paint scheme 😊😅😮😂❤

    I have so much respect for Richard Childress. He loved driving, but the was willing to step out of his own car and put Earnhardt in because he knew Dale was a far better driver. Then he was willing to let Dale go because the team wasn't doing well, but Dale refused. Richard was SO deserving of the Hall of Fame induction!

    Dale Sr. saying "we started it together, we'll end it together" with the temptation of better equipment; race teams, is a level of integrity that I don't think we'll see anytime soon from the current generations of racers. That's a dying breed.

      @Ethan Weeter If u watch some of the other Jr. Podcasts where he had Terry Labonte on show... Terry said he would always go on hunting trips with Sr. but after that wreck at Bristol it took some time to get over... But they are racers & its what they do... Even Sr's worst enemy had respect for him. To wreck or move people out of line as much as Sr. did & to be respected as he is today or even at the end of his career speaks to his skill as a driver & what the type of man he was off the track... I would bet if he drove like that yet was a dick off the Track the racers would've hated him... yet any story you hear about Sr. especially when it comes to off the track stuff he really was a class act. Hes the type of man we are desperately missing in todays society.

      @larrywt656 5 років тому +1

      Richmond was the main inspiration, but there were stories about a number of other drivers (including Dale Sr. and Jeff Gordon) woven into the script. A lot of what happened in that movie was based on true events.

    • @donniebeadles7842
      @donniebeadles7842 5 років тому +1

      It was. Cole Trickle was loosely portraying Tim. Rowdy Burns was inspired by Earnhardt. Russ Wheeler was supposedly Rusty Wallace ( of course) . The sit down speech with NASCAR president where he warns Cole and Rowdy was based off of a discussion where Bill France Jr sat down Geoff Bodine and Dale Sr in the mid to late 80s and told them basically same thing as in the movie

    • @KK-ex5zu
      @KK-ex5zu 5 років тому +1

      The movie which was made and released in 1990 was based on a conglomeration of drivers from the mid to late 80's like Dale Earnhardt, Tim Richmond, Tim Richmond's crew chief Harry Hyde aka Harry Hogge in the flick and his antics like eating ice cream when his driver wanted to pit back in the 70's, Geoff Bodine, and Russ Wheeler's character was based on up and coming charismatic drivers like Davey Allison & Rusty Wallace.

      @KK-ex5zu 5 років тому +3

      @@larrywt656 True that a lot of the actual events were based on true stories. But none of the movie had anything to do with Jeff Gordon! BUT and I know I'm not the only one that thinks this, Austin Dillon does NOT deserve to be in a car with that #3 on it, sorry, I just don't see it, should have retired that 3

    I can’t imagine how cathartic this is for Jr. Every one of these old timers are telling him stories about his dad that he never knew. It’s almost like he’s learning who his dad was outside of being his father.

    Dale Earnhardt Sr had the abilities to drive a crappy race car and still do well with it anyway. Cheating was never a part of the program with him either.

    I started watching Nascar as a little girl, which is kind of unusual I guess because none of my family watched racing. I was absolutely fascinated with Dale Earnhardt from the start & remained a die hard fan until his death. I was fortunate enough to have been watching live during some of his finest moments. From the pass in the grass, to the time when he sat on his door frame, steering with his knee during caution laps cleaning his own windshield, to his first win in the Daytona 500 in 1998. Every Sunday I was right there, yelling & screaming at the top of my lungs cheering for a win. When he passed I cried for days. It felt like losing a long time friend. After his death I couldn't bring myself to continue watching and over the years most of my friends have followed suit. It's never been the same and they have officially ruined a sport that, at one time, had such a loyal following. These days it's not about who has the most talent, it's about who has the most money. The drivers of today are mostly young kids who come from money and they will never bring the excitement to the sport in the same way that the drivers of years past did. Back in those days most of the drivers came from poor backgrounds and had to really work hard to succeed in the sport.

    Childress is an awesome dude. I talked to him at a party for Sterlin Marlin at a bar/restaurant in the Poconos (the name of which is gone from my brain due to the passage of time), and I while talking to him I said - *sigh* - "I remember you running the Truxmore #90 car when I was a kid." He politely replied "That was Dick Brooks." I immediately realized my mistake, and said something like "oh man, I'm so sorry, you're right," and he just brushed it off with a "oh, it's no problem." We laughed about it, talked for a couple more minutes, and then both went our separate ways. It was a very cool interaction.

    So it took me a little bit to understand why Dale appeared his equipment sucked in the last 6yrs of his career. But what it actually was is when we went to sucking the cars to the ground by using shocks that once they would collapse they wouldn’t turn loose. Dale refused to drive with them because we would piss blood because it was so rough. So as you can imagine. Dale has 100-300lbs more downforce and he really didn’t stand a chance. Because all of us in multiple series were running the pull down shocks. It would usually keep the spoiler 1”. 2.35” is the lowest I got mine doing multiple things to knock the ride height down. Even dales 2001 Daytona cars you see the front left coming off the ground allowing air under the car. Vs Tony Stewart or Dale jr who has the cars sucked to the ground.

    I’ll tell y’all a story. I was a little bad ass kid growing up in the ghetto of Chicago not knowing any better I stole a little toy car from family dollar. I absolutely love this little racing car more than anything. The little black Chevy racing car turned out to be Dale Sr. Well even as a young kid I loved sports so naturally I became a Sr fan. Fast forward to after high school I moved to Atlanta to live with my cousin. I got a job at Walmart and I met the most die hard nascar fan ever who was a a manager there. Everyday we would talk racing. At that time I only knew about Sr and Jeff Gordon who she was a fan of but she knew everything about everything. I would randomly throw out numbers of cars to her not ever knowing if they were actually race cars and she’d nail it every single time no hesitation. Quite amazing to me. I remember her being super excited about going to the Atlanta race with her bf. Then maybe a day or two before the race she comes to me and says she couldn’t go bc she had to work and she asked if I’d like to go instead. I said yes of course and her bf and I made the trip. It was incredible. Of course she had awesome tickets with pit passes and the whole nine. One of my most vivid memories was meeting “The King” Richard Petty before the race. But what really made this race absolutely incredible was that it was one of the first races that Jr came up and raced with Sr. That’s the exact moment that I became a Sr and Jr fan. SideNote; the bf who brought me along was the real MVP. Although I felt I was pretty cool company being that I like racing, southern rock, and sorts I still couldn’t imagine what he had to be feeling dragging around this little young black kid at a nascar race in 99/00 but I couldn’t ask for a better person in that situation. I didn’t understand things at that time being straight from Chicago but when I look back on it now I realized how much of a great person he was. Moral of the story, I got to see Sr and Jr race together and treat ppl with kindness and dignity. It’ll go along ways. Blessings
