  • Dale Earnhardt Jr and co-host Mike Davis are joined by legendary NASCAR crew member, the great Danny “Chocolate” Myers, for a colorful and candid conversation.
    Chocolate was a longtime gasman for Dale Earnhardt Sr., Richard Childress Racing, and the famed number-three. Chocolate rates the rivals of the three-car and talks about how he and the Junkyard Dogs had Dale’s back through thick and thin.

    Love Chocolate Myers!!! He autographed a race tire for me, and took some pictures with me next to my car at the Hilton in Dover back in the early 90’s. My car is a 86 Monte Carlo SS that’s painted, and decaled like Dale Sr’s car. The decals came from RCR. Dale Sr signed the console, and Richard Childress signed the glovebox door. I got pictures of both of them signing it. They gave me the Western Steer, Stetson Hats, and Snap-on tools decals at RCR’s Open House back in 93-94. I got EVERY crew members autograph that weekend also. Such a 1st class operation, with down to earth great people there. Fond memories I’ll have for a lifetime. RIP Dale Sr.

      If NASCAR kept the Winston Cup standings Jeff Gordon would be a 7 time champion. But when they switch the system at the beginning of 2004 they robbed Jeff Gordon of three championships. That's the way I look at it. Jimmie Johnson is in his great as they say he is. Especially with chocolate Myers saying Jimmy Johnson was put into a championship team basically from the beginning. Big difference

    Not only did Jimmie Johnson jump immediately into top tier equipment. He had Jeff Gordon and Terry Labonte (five championships between them) as teammates. On top of all that, he didn't even need to be good all year, just good enough to squeeze into the chase and then be good the last ten or so races. In Earnhardt and Gordon's day, if you didn't average a finish of about 8th or higher (except Gordons 11th in the odd 2001) you werent winning a cup. Johnson got one with an average finish of 14th. Johnson is the least impressive champion of the three. I put Jeff Gordon as a better driver. Without the chase Johnson would be a three time champ, which is very impressive. But he was set up for success. Put Someone like Kevin Harvick or Mark Martin in that same situation as Johnson and they do eve better than Johnson. Jimmie is good, but no where close to Earnhardt, Gordon, Petty or even pearson

    • @ryanderke8678
      @ryanderke8678 4 роки тому +13

      I disagree. Jimmie was able to win and perform the best when it counted. If Jeff was as talented, he would’ve won in the chase era and couldn’t do it. Mark Martin even thought Jimmie was a product of Hendrick equipment and when he went to Hendrick he realized how good Jimmie really was, Jeff has even stated on live tv that Jimmie is the best driver he’s ever seen. So sure you probably don’t agree from a fan point of view, but they definitely think he’s the greatest. Considering they raced against both 7 time champions before Jimmie.

    • @jesuschristislord6790
      @jesuschristislord6790 4 роки тому +20

      If Jeff was as talented, he would’ve won in the chase era and couldn’t do it.
      That's pretty terrible logic. Jimmie Johnson was inconsistent all of 2016 then squeaked his way into the chase and managed to win at the end, while averaging a 14th place finish all year with 10 finishes 20th or worse. Then you have Jeff Gordon, who had one of the best seasons in the past 20 years in 2007, but lost because Johnson got hot the last five races. Then he dominated all year in 2014 and lost because he was wrecked and knocked out of the chase. How does someone being forced into a flat tire dictate talent? Consistency is talent.

      @Lil' Wayne's guitar teacher Its messed up. The big reason for the chase was that it wasn't a good look for the champion to be named two or three races before the end of the season, making the remaining races "pointless" But what they've done now is made the entire season pointless. You can win the first or second race of the year and it really doesn't matter what happens until the chase. you can finish last a bunch, miss races, whatever. as long as you remain in the top 30 in points the entire season doesn't matter. You could win the daytona 500 and finish like 25th every week up until the chase starts. Its a really dumb system that no one asked for. Nascar was so popular in the early 2000s, the chase started in 2004. Fans were beating the doors down to get tickets and they decided to fix something that wasnt broken and destroyed it

      That is so true. Chocolate has a little bit of selective memory too because Earnhardt wrecked way way more by making direct intentional contact. He got to a point in the late 80s where RCR had big bucks while a lot of other teams had a shoestring budget, so heck yeah drivers got out of his way but for survival, not because of intimidation. I never really cared for #3, but he was great for the sport.

    Dang both of them ran Wrangler colors in 1984 and they had ads with both drivers and cars. Didn’t know there was bad blood over it. Rudd drove for Hendrick and Yates so it’s not like he never got any good equipment after that. He was good on road courses and short tracks but never had much success on the faster tracks.

    Ricky shouldn’t be mad at Dale, he should have been really pissed off at Richard Childress for replacing him with Dale. Anyone would have done the same thing in Dales position. Asking what are you doing at RCR isn’t underhanded, it’s getting information as to how you’re doing so well. Besides, Ricky wasn’t doing as well with RCR as what Dale did when he got there.

    NASCAR allowed Dale, Sr. to get away with stuff, just as the NBA had the "Jordan Rules" with Michael Jordan and the NHL would not let people hurt Wayne Gretzky. I had no problem with Dale, Sr. being "rough" with other drivers...but he didn't like getting the same treatment in return...and NASCAR helped him get away with stuff...

      @@timheidel5849 You are correct...most diehard NBA fans will tell you that Michael Jordan "playing baseball" was actually David Stern silently and privately suspending Mike for gambling. Mike was luckily not stupid enough to bet on his own games like Pete Rose, but there's a theory that his dad was killed due to gambling debts(which don't make sense as MJ was the richest athlete ever at the time)

      He drove modifieds, NASCAR's original and real division as we as anyone. Earnhardt never would have lasted in tears of driving ability, nor been tolerated, by the modified ranks. That division had its Earnhardt types, namely Jimmy Spencer and Ted Christopher. I remain befuddled at the appeal these types have, both from fans and media.
      The blindness and absence of even slightest sense of objectivity from Earnhardt fans truly separates them from all others.
