I definitely feel like John Mayer is the kind of guitar player where even if you aren't really into his music (like me), you can definitely find one or two songs that really stick with you, especially if you're a guitar player.
i really dislike john mayers "music" he releases. its terrible (i think) but you are absolutely correct, as a guitarist i love him for his playing ability. the john mayer trio stuff i dont mind, but i would enjoy a album more where john focussed on playing guitar and someone else say
Y’all are trippin, his music is incredible. Lot of it is sad but the theory and meaning behind it is beyond what 99% of modern artists can accomplish. Definitely take a second look into his discography, cause I thought the same thing y’all did at one point
@@poorrich3601 i was a budding guitar player in 2001 when i heard no such thing i like the chord voicings before i knew about voicings then i started leaning his songs and learned about chords more....then i realized he could also play blues like SRV and i had already been an SRV fan since i was a little kid so it all clicked.
@@kaistroup6898 It’s notoriously screwed up ha. The timing of the second guitar is always bound to f*ck one guitarist up….each wants to lock in with each other.
I bought a custom made Modern Eagle V a year or so before PRS added it to the core lineup, and it is easily my favorite guitar I have ever owned. Insanely good tone when plugged in to any of my tube amps.
It would be a dream come true to own a modern eagle v. I feel very fortunate that I was able to be given a squier (decent quality) as a gift and that I was able to buy a used custom SE 24 Floyd. The modern eagle would be the only guitar I’d ever need, unfortunately I guess I’ll have to accept the fact that I’ll never be able to afford one 😅.
John's definitely become one of the greats. Great vid - great lesson. I have two US PRS, an SC594 core, and a Silver Sky, and I really want an MEV now. And a Studio 22 . . .
The 7th shape with 1, 7, 3 and the damped A string is Freddy Green’s standard shape. This is from the ‘40s. The chord sequence is the 1, the 4, then a 2/5/1 with the 2 being a dom 7th, the 5 being played as the flat 2 (a tritone sub) and the G is a passing the 1! Or yiu could think of it as a 9th variant of the 1. So it’s basically a jazz blues. Played with lots of cool clever riffs over it.
I would certainly welcome an extended look at the Modern Eagle V after you've had it for a few months. Would be awesome if it was genuinely the only guitar you'll ever need (I could probably even sweet talk my wife into letting me buy it if that's the case).
It's definitely 100% inspired by SRV. In fact, I'm kinda sure I heard something very similar in a live recording. Awesome piece of music. Also digging the stuff at the end man, nice playing.
I'm from the Philippines, ang yeah I watch your videos. I can see my self as future you the way how you play is so good. It would be a dream come true If I could have a guitar that came from you sir.
yes this is one of the best thing's he has ever played in my opinion too! I long for John Mayer to become the funk god that he is.I saw this riff, and other funk riffs he played on his horizon red silver sky on another video, and i was like..."he is the funkiest ,catchiest person i've seen this side of any existing or past guitarist! please release an album that is all funk,no vocals even needed"
@@poorrich3601 doesnt mean he dislikes them. just not a fan. im not either really. great quality but they are overpriced instruments for the most part imo. u could get a completely custom built kiesel for the price of the prs in this video and still have a thousand+ to spare.
Tyler I’ve literally been doing a deep dive into Try! Lately, this is the most spookily timed video I’ve ever seen. (Also you’re awesome keep it coming please!!)
Tyler are you going to release an album already? You are one of my favourite players - not just content creators, but players - and you seem able to come up with beautiful music effortlessly. I'd love to see your musical prowess in the form of a song and not a jam!
How about doing a long form video like an Album where you Jam to your favorite licks or improvised versions of songs. I could listen to you play like you did for the outro for hours. Great new Video, thanks.
If Bethany ever wants you to get rid of some the guitars in the MiW Cave, you're welcome to store that Modern Eagle V and any other guitars you need at my place. Just sayin'... I'm here to help, Tyler.
I don't mind PRS guitars, but they're a little too much Gibson-y for me. I mean, when I play one, I feel like I'm playing a Gibson, and I just don't like Gibsons. But with that being said, I'd much rather own a PRS than a Gibson. I do like the style and look of a PRS though.
FINALY FINALY FINALY someone recognised this and brought it up! I would say with out a doubt this is johns hardest thing to play. I mean to get that groove cmon! Just listen to Taylors attempt, it sucked compared to Mayers and that just truth no hate. I have played this for a year and is still light years away from John's.
2:20 No… there is a right way to play that example of that particular riff… and that is how John played it. Now, everyone can play it their own way, with their own personality and unique expression and take, and that is fine and great… but it is a cop out when someone who does not do the riff justice laments that “there is no right way to do it”. Do it your way, and own it… and stop qualifying your playing.

Everybody knows John Mayer’s most difficult and technically advanced song is “Your Body is a Wonderland” 😤🤟🏻
The best part is that it's actually a decently complex song haha
Facts can't lie
Something like Olivia is the greatest thing John has ever come out with!!
Honestly, try playing that bridge as groovy as he does, not as easy as it sounds 😅
@@kaistroup6898 It’s notoriously screwed up ha. The timing of the second guitar is always bound to f*ck one guitarist up….each wants to lock in with each other.
The opening riff is right out of John's song "Who did you think I was." Great stuff.
I’d have to say the intro to Try! Is his best! So groovy, dirty, and just pure
That, neon 12:47 or hummingbird (acoustic tho)
I want to try this with a muff and do like a Zappa vibe with it.
@@Sailor_Man_Music that’d sound amazing
I second that
The solo at the end is so beautiful 🥲
I can't agree more on that one ;), btw ignore the fake spam ;).
Hearing the Modern Eagle V sounding that good just going direct is getting me quite excited since mine is on it's way (hopefully a month). Can't wait.

This has been a favorite of mine for some time now! Glad to see it get noticed.
Yet another great video to watch while waiting for a game to update, perfect timing Tyler 👍
im subscribing to your channel because your comment is exactly what im doing. dont even know if you have any videos.
I love how you always pick at least one moment in each closing solo where you go face-meltingly crazy with it

Guitar supersystem changed everything, would highly recommend!
Maaannnn.... That Modern Eagle PRS is just KILLING it!!!!!! Love the vid.

You truly are one of the best guitarists
John Mayer is my favorite guitarist hands down
The rest of the backing track was equally tasteful as that ending solo. Great job

shout out Zartimus for tabbing this out and teaching this a few weeks back!
You ever go jogging with someone and you think you're keeping up...then they step on it and you realize oh shit there are levels to this
That ending solo was the best I've heard since John's sob rock tour

Like John Mayer's tattooed arm lol
@@natevirtual Exactly. The guy is a huge SRV fan and doesn't really pretend otherwise. I don't think he 'stole' anything in that sense.

I second what @joeconnolly9336 said. Also, thank you for Guitar Super System!
Man I thought the quilted charcoal on the announcement video yesterday was sick but this blue😳🤯😍
I was just listening to Where The Light Is and I have to say. The riff intro to Wait Until Tomorrow is so damn groovy
It sounds a lot like "Who Did You Think I Was" by John
It's vastly different overall but I hear what you're hearing to make you say that...
I love that riff!
Intro to “who did you think I was” from the trio is very similar. I’ve been saying this since the first time I heard it.
awesome analysis! absolutely love John's improv🎸
You're an inspiration to me and my son
This is so wonderfully presented.
,,,,,hey, Tyler............................you just did that ! ...........................you've made it .....well done.😈😈🎸🎸
I was thinking 'toma' then you said it. On youtube toma always starts B flat 7, E flat, F. You already know this better than I do, I'm sure.
Zartimus made a great video analysis on it . Very accurate like always
I can play this but the groove is off, it’s one thing to play it and then to get the groove down. John is something else

The whole reason John had gotten the super eagle was he was chasing the Garcia tone

How hard do I have to try to be such a monster at guitar like you two!!! JM is a beast but damn Tyler’s tone is insane
@AMMO_NY omg !! You don’t have to give me a prs!! I already own one!!! But thank you!!! Would love to hear what you had in mind though!!

No where near the best thing John has ever played but its cool.
As a Spaceballs fan having a guitar named Eagle 5 is awesome. “Is that a Winnebago… with wings?”
comb the desert!
Great playing!
Wow! Sounds real good DI, but woahh at the end! 🤘
Very Sweet Guitar....along with your playing!
Pls do a video of the modern eagle
Whatever happened to the giveaways that were teased in the GSS vid that was only up for 24 hrs? AFAF
Wonderful outro👏👏👏
Cool! Thanks! :)
Pretty sure the run of ‘diads’ you keep talking about is actually played as triads
I wonder if Tyler could convert Rhett Shull over to the PRS family? He has nearly every model they offer.
Do I see a KEMPER right behind you on the desk...???
Have you ever did a video about the KEMPER?
I can't believe it.
Can you start making videos daily I love your videos
the root third seven thing is very common in Bach chorales and classical 4 part chorales. I’m guessing that’s where the inspiration derived from.
Record, dammit! You kill!!
Lovely guitar, great video Tyler, Paul's Guitar is me fave out of all PRS
saw this Eagle5 on twitter, and thought it was a New Paul's?
Awsome video your playing was as good as jimmy Hendrix
Nice lesson!
God I need this guitar
Nice, loved the intro
So I hear Vaughn, Montgomery, and Garcia tones all rolled into one that ascending minor starting at the 5th sounds like a Jerry Garcia technique.
Great riff on a great guitar!
Still wish there were a PRS SE version of modern eagle.
Yes, or at least something from SE with a middle pickup.
I wish you jam or interview John Mayer

I don’t like those white pick up rings…😢 but the rest looks sick. Great playing as always!
Jealous of those with long thumbs. I've never been able to reach, no matter the shape of the neck. Considering surgery.

As many of you probably know we lost Jeff Beck today. While he may be gone his art will live for generations.
