I have always avoided painting portrait cause I was never confident to sketch a human face. But watching this tutorial gave me the confidence to try this out. Went to Pinterest for some inspiration and my painting turned out great. I’m so proud of myself and I’m super grateful to you for giving us a totally different perspective on painting portraits
Look at Chad Jacobs' studies and videos of John Singer Sargent portraits. He talks well about shapes and building the likeness and face with only shapes and basic values. Using a pencil, just notch out the chin, bottom of the nose, brow line, and hairline. Then from that, use the envelope method of drawing to get down the basic shape of the face. U may need to measure the width of the face, personally, I don't have to, but you may want to. Anyways, I won't explain further unless you want me to, but I seriously suggest Chad Jacobs.
Great stuff. As Stan Miller says in his basic approach, if you get the values right it doesn't matter what colors you use. Also, keep in mind, value does the work, color gets all the credit.
Liron, what a great exercise! And, I tell you, I would not and could not believe it was going to work until minute 5. Then, suddenly his face just jumped off the page at me!! It is unbelievable! Thank you.
wow you definitely have shown an understanding of shadow even to me a very beginner so thank you all you guys are great teachers in the us so hello from the uk
I just found your channel. Very interesting, tempting and inspiring. Great tutorials. I’m thinking in beginning painting with watercolors, I find it very intimidating but I w pant to try. I only paint in oils. New subscriber. Blessings and take care.
All the world has watched the suffering and deaths of people in Ukraine and it reminded me of the last two years of Covid. I naturally thought of appealing first to the art community who are strong in their creative ability to manifest things, hoping you will understand the principle and power of what I am suggesting and use you world platforms to get this message out. I guess being a subscriber to many of you I am hoping that you feel as I do and whatever creative form you wish to use , be it drawing painting, knitting or crochet, meditation or prayer stand together every day in visualising a shield of protection and love for those in Ukraine. Thank you Linda x
That was... fast 😅 But very nice quick routine for training portrait! And indeed, the result I got is not THAT bad! (I have to admit I did push the pause button several times 😅)

@@LironYan Hi Sir, I love your style, I want to learn more on watercolor portrait. Thank you for sharing your knowledge here in UA-cam. ❤❤❤
Wow! The Stan Miller (?) technique of blue for dark, red for mid tones and yellow for light sounds fun. Love your videos. Thanks.
Great stuff. As Stan Miller says in his basic approach, if you get the values right it doesn't matter what colors you use. Also, keep in mind, value does the work, color gets all the credit.
Haha well put regarding color getting all the credit! 😂
@@LironYan Got that from one of my teachers, so can't take full credit.
Thanks Liron. Def going to try this
You summed up edges in one sentence and it literally changed the entire way I see them now. Awesome vid, thanks!

Haha, you yourself have to believe in your paintings! 😁
If there's anything I learned - it's to keep going until the impression's there 🎉💪

Thank you Leon. I've done portraits in graphite, now to try in Watercolor. Like the idea of using primary colors too. 😊
Lovely complement to Realistic Course. I'd be interested to see a portrait with three primaries. Thank you!

SWEET
Yay. Tried it. Let’s just say “expectations met” 🤪
YESSS 😁 That’s all we can ask for 😂😅
Thank you a lot for your inspiring portrait tutorial Liron! I tried it myself following your technique and I am so excited about the result!
This clicked with me theoretically - just hope i can lean into the technique in a relaxed fashion...
A big part of that relaxation is :
1 - Simple shaped references
2 - Black & white only
😁
Very good Thank you
Awesomness - thank you
I got your courses as a Christmas Gift for 'm--self' - I am so excited !!! 😁
Great tutorial. So helpful!!!

where do you get the references?
Pixabay dot com (:
(And link in description)
Nice has first layer finish it pls
your forgotten point was how we can use white gel pens. They can be used to great effect.
Thank you! 😅 Can always count on the comments and chat 😁🙏
😍
if you struggle to "see the shapes" start with an upside down reference
Great tip! A real trip seeing how much easier it can make this 😂
