As a Coloured South African who has lived in the USA for a significant time period, What Jasmin said at 19:25 hits the nail on the head so much. In America, I identify so much with the African American experience. Their history and identity being so complex is very similar to that of coloured South Africans, the family dynamics and hood politics is also very similar to that of the coloured experience. When i lived in the USA, It made me more aware of my blackness as a coloured than it did living here In SA because at home, my identity is deeply rooted in my racial classification, so I am separated from the black people here but in the USA, we are the same in many ways. Grateful to have heard this being confirmed by an African American....Apartheid really f*cked us up here. Coloured people siding with their european heritage is so stupid to me because I've personally never felt favoured over a black person by white people. I've always felt the same level of hatred for us.
Apartheid was an evil genius system...its why many colored people suffer from Stockholm syndrome...we were conditioned that way...its inbeded in how we think...if we're successful (jy hou jou wit) , your hair ,skin tone...determines your hierarchy in your own family...its sad . Very sad and most SA's will never understand...because they don't know how deep the conditioning went...
but the person is coloured aka mixed/ multi racial...what must they say...they are not black...so what...they must agree with you just so that you can be happy..so to be mixed race is now colourism...how..because that is who they person is...they are not black..so what now@@sentsolebatla2512

High!!!! I'm coloured and lived in Cape Town all my life and I can tell you undoubtedly that if you ask 20 different coloureds what coloured means you'll get 20 different answers. We are so diverse and so Jasmin pretty much hit the nail on the head. And as for the term "coloured", yes, it was given to us by the oppressor but I choose to turn it into a positive by embracing that have the DNA of a diverse people... Colourful indeed 💖 I DON'T like the term mixed race, it implies that other races are pure pffft!!!! To think that the black people of Southern Africa is pure is a joke when Khoi and the southern bantu people all lived and co/procreated together. So the audacity of calling me mixed race is like a slap in the face and a rude reminder that people here are so damaged by apartheid that they are now claiming their even black skin or white skin is pure and must proudly claim it. We are all mixed. There's always time to exercise some mindfulness. ✨ I like that. Thanks for an informative vlog✨
@judyswile5259 Question from someone who is ignorant. Should we call you Khoisan instead? In my western mind I'm just thinking Black instead of Colored and I know you don't like that reference either.
@@R1M1r1m1 Not all Coloured people have Khoisan ancestry. Also note that the Khoisan tribe is another Black tribe found in the Kalahari Desert and regions of Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Northern South Africa. Think of the Coloured people's origin as one similar to the Louisiana Creole who are people of mixed colonial French, Black, Spanish and Native American ancestry. Louisina Creole people are not exclusively French, Spanish, Black nor Native American. When Coloured people became segregated to their own communities they started reproducing amongst themselves now birthing generations of just purely Coloured people not mixed with other races. With this race of people that was neither Black, Asian or White saw a genesis of a new dialect, culture, traditions and cuisines that were exclusive to only Coloured people. A child born today in South Africa from a Black and White parents or White and Asian parents is not Coloured, they are a mixed race person. Being mixed in South Africa doesn't automatically qualify you as Coloured. To be Coloured one has to be born from parents. great-grand-parents who are of the Coloured race as this race of people have their own heritage, customs and creed.
Great comment,I mean I'm Xhosa but with Khoi genes in me. Look at our features as black South African specifically the Nguni's and Tswana' in particular our features says it all
@judyswile5259 I concur with a lot of what you mentioned. But I have to rectify a point that is usually misinterprented by our Coloured brothers and sisters. The San and the Khoi Khoi are one of the thousands of Black tribes in Africa? The San and the Khoi are another Black tribe like the Bantu, Nguni, Massai, Karo, Yoruba, Fulani and many more. So a Xhosa and a San or Khoi Khoi person procreating does not create a mixed race baby, those are just two Black people from different tribes having a baby. The Coloured race was born after Whites began fornicating with the Black tribes of Southern Africa. Before settlers came into the region of Southern Africa the different tribes including the Khoi, San, Zulu, Xhosa, Samburu, Himba, Hadzabe, Vhenda and many more were just Black tribes seperated by tribal lines.
@@tyali84Thank you for mentioning this. The Khoi and the San are part of the the black tribes of Southern Africa. To think a Khoi and Xhosa produce a mixed race child in wrong. The separation of the Khoi and the San from other tribes was done justify land theft. If the colonizers admit that the Khoi and the San are tribes that coexisted with the rest, they'd have to admit that the Zulu, Xhosa, Venda, Swati, Sotho, etc are all natives of South Africa.

SA was great cuntry . Me i 71 year age. I was young to about 40 year in aparthade. Then ANC. Till today. Many many times young peeples ask me which was better. Well very hard answer. Shuld be easy but very hard. You see in aparthade we were not big population like today cos other cuntry peeples culd not cum live here. Today millions of zim Mocambique and many more. Jobs was easy . Many many jobs. From skool into a job. Everyone . Ok pay was not big but everything was cheep . Food was cheep. We had bootiful bus and trains . No taxi . No crime . No electricalicity problems. I can catch train all accross cuntry to visit my brother or sister. R9.00 for one way. Nice chairs and only 50 peeples in carriage . Everyone has chair. Today 400 peeples and old peeples stand. They rob you. If you fite tjey throw you from fast train. In township we could watch soccer late on feelds under lites and everyone is there and make braai. Today we sit in house door lock and to scare to go outside. Crime rape to much. Police are useless and want bribe money all time. Taxi put many in and accident many die. Water is dirty today . Forreign peeples come sell cake to childrens and childrens to many get sick and die. No shop in old day with health inspector he check . Jobs today big problem for young mans . 50 % find no jobs and then make bad disisions in life. Pregnant skool girls . Drugs. And more. Zimbabwe peeples work for half price and we lose these jobs but zim peeples chased all the white farmer away and Magabe hate Ndebele and Whites peeples and cuntry is very bad but now they cum here and make problem instead of to work those buisenes where they chase white peeples. They just close it and steel the roof and windows and doors . I seen it so. But big thing today we have is freedom. We can go everywhere and boere not look for us. But to be free you get choice. Free to build grate cuntry or free to destroy . Now we destroy. Break it down and corrupt the tax. Peeple suffer. You interview this rich girl who is american not south african even tho she black . Skin color is not a place. Thank you to read my letter. Enoch.

@@amariimorakile5289I disagree… it exists for sure but it’s not rampant at all, you can go your whole life without encountering it. The American system to me seems like everything is about race even their sports, you can’t say the same about SA.
How funny that the conversation is so much about race as whites are not allowed to talk about it, not even White Americans, and how it is made to believe that South Africa are being buit by Blacks, well ity is not true also, the country, everything you see around you, roads, buildings businesses, house, everything that looks like America and functions like America was/is built by Whites, so convenient to portray that South Africa iwas/is black and the 5 million Whites who built everything are being ignored in this conversation. And a last thing, to compare Slavery in America (which by the way is a false message to keep Blacks in America Poor by the Democrats) to Apartheid is ludecrous, stupid and childish. The South African system was handed down by the English to the Afrikaners, and it was Us who voted to have Apartheid abolished, if we hated South Africa as much as you think we did WHY did we ABOLISH Apartheid?, Why did we not just tighten the laws and still lived with a Whites only Government. Now that there is a Government of National Unity the country will once again beb the powerhouse it was under Apatheid, because Blacks has decided just like we did 30 years ago to have a single Government of National Unity instead of having the Whites, Colours and Indians create their own Country and tyake it by force. We love our country too, my family has been here in South Africa for 400 years, LONG before there were any Black Tribes anywhere to be seen, only Us and the Koi and the SAN.
Does people know calling some one or calling people a mixed race, that undoubtedly is disrespectful and a Insult to the main bedroom of one's parents and Great grant parents....and also my question is ...What difference does make calling me a Coloured or calling me Black...To me is one an the same thing, the only difference is you referred to single colour ..Black...and other Coloured, you referred to it as a collective.... Is where the mixed race comes into play here .... However why in South Africa we are still talking about Black and White ...people after 360years....We still find John Steenhuizen identify himself as a White man or Hellen Zille a White woman...but O yes all of them claim that they are racist....by now Everybody was surposed to be called a Mixed Race.... The only Nation in South Africa seems to not Racist is the Coloureds ...when we look at fine print of things in SA....Black, White, Indian ect..are Racist....

THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COLOUREDS;
They are a 350+ year old creole ethnic group. Not biracial. .Not mixed ,but HAVE MUTLI-RACIAL ADMIXTURE/HERITAGE as a result of creolisation during the 1600s iduring slavery in the cape colony.. They all descend from the same diverse slave/native/colionist ancestors in varying proportions..THEY DONT COME FROM BIRACIAL PEOPLE WHO MIXED WITH BIRACIAL PEOPLE EITHER. SO MIXED RACE CHILDREN ARE NOT COLOURED. Coloureds are a 3 centuries old ethnio-culture with a specific heriatge/history/ancestry/cuulture. .
The wroking class of the cape colony was Mostly african. KHWE/XAM/AMAXHOSA/MADAGSCAN/WEST & EAST AFRICAN/SOUTH ASIANS... NATIVES AND SLAVES WITHIN THIS COLONY WERE ENSLAVED/DETRIBALISED( stripped of their pre-colonial identity) / CREOLISED ( the generational ethnic/cultural blending/fusion of differnt populations into a single diverse population)/ACCULTURATED ( adopted the eurocentric culture of colonists/slave masters).THE ONLY COLOUREDS OF MOSTLY ASIAN DESCENT ARE CAPE MALAYS, who make up less than 10% of all coloureds. the 90% of coloureds are on the mosty african genetic spectrum. Their ancestry is 2/3 african. Africans (natives/slaves) made up 70% OF THE CAPE COLONY. THE AVERAGE COLOURED IS 68% AFRICAN GENETICALLY. THEIR MATERNAL DNA IS 78% AFRICAN ( KHOI/XHOSA WOMEN) AND THEIRN PATERNAL DNA (Y-CHROMOSOME) IS 48% AFRICAN ( KHOISAN/BANTU/MADAGSCAN/WEST &EAST AFRICAN MEN) ALMOST ALL COLOUREDS ARE BLACK, COZ ALMOST ALL COLOUREDS ARE MOSTLY AFRICAN
This is not accurate but hey..
@@thabo3866 How can you dismiss objective facts and logic? Challenge accepted. Don't just speak; substantiate your assertions. I challenge you to cite your sources, as I am more than prepared to substantiate mine with a robust foundation of evidence. Not everyone loves pap, some of us are rice folks 😂😂
The most Identy Discussion in SA, since the arrival of Settlers...is the Kleurling or Coloureds....and is also the most Identity with so many different name tacks or terms attached to it...Something is very wrong in South Africa there is great sence of Ethnic Cleansing....
It's the undoing of a people. It's sad
On the pap conversation... I think you've experienced unsalted pap
Great job. What beats me is that you give the impression that everybody loves pap. Thats not true. Not all South Africans pap either. The majority of people do but not everyone.
She looks like Agent00
First of all she looks (Somalian)
Secondly there were no slaves who were taken from south africa to america.
Me I think all this Americans thinking that that belong here is crazy because of culture. but what can I say no DNA just RSA🇿🇦
no my sister, I'm a South African Xhosa man and i hate Pap. i had to eat that all my youth life and there is still nothing special about it.
Nah bru, South African pap is too refined. Lived 2 years in Zambia and I enjoy their pap more. You can still taste the mielies...
Guys pap is not for everybody please dont feel bad if you don't like it😅
I'm South African but Pap is overrated to be quite honest. Especially JHB pap, it's literally just water and maize meal.
I also don't like the way they make pap in Johannesburg it tends to be blandish in taste
@accountretired9479 They don't even add salt to taste. Literally just Maize meal.
@@andile.ngcobowho said that we don’t add salt? 😂 Jozi is multicultural so different cultures prepare their pap differently

Not a fan of pap???????? Closed the tab, shut down my lap top, set it on fire and threw it in the trash.. I can't continue with this blasphemy..
Dont worry not all locals are into pap.

What's life like for working class South Africans ?
Good question. People struggle. Not as cheap as it is for foreigners with dollars. But otherwise SAns love SA and no working class person thinks of leaving this country. We love it.
Facts
@SikiDlanga once you live outside South Africa then you will understand its actually cheap well the food..ANC has just messed things up
SA was great cuntry . Enoch.

What’s the difference between racism in America versus racism in SA? Are the whites different in SA? Why move from boiling water to fire?
Black majority. We can make the rules
@@iTuber012 well apparently the whites control parliament in SA and call all the shots because they own most businesses.
RASCIM IS HIGH IN SA
@@amariimorakile5289I disagree… it exists for sure but it’s not rampant at all, you can go your whole life without encountering it. The American system to me seems like everything is about race even their sports, you can’t say the same about SA.
@@amariimorakile5289its high to you because thats all you have to hide your incompetence.
That's a lie. Black people have been in South Africa for a very long time. It's just that white people stayed in the cape colony.
Such crap misinformation u should be ashamed of urself
Bottom line ....they are African.
Bro, please don't lie please. You are the worst racists in Cape Town, we know your rampant anti-blackness, so don't lie asseblief.
Thanks
Thank you 🙏🏾
