Thank you for sharing this logic and for pointing the way to (Clifford A. Reiter: "A Local Cellular Model for Snow Crystal Growth") time to make it snow
Really awesome that I set out to search for a procedural snowflake to 3D print for a tree ornament and find an Entagma tutorial, of all things! Not only did you teach us how it to make it but you showed us on a fundamental level what is actually happening. Unexpected and amazing. These tutorials are the future. Thanks so much for sharing this one, Mo.
Just followed and worked great from scratch. Thanks for the knowledge Moritz! For anyone having trouble, check that you have set the appropriate point groups in all your point wrangles, that was my one slip up ;)
There is some problem here too, i follow your tutorial by everything and nothing happens. Loading your file works. I triple-checked every node properties etc..
works when I load your file but shows a lot of error signs when i rebuild it from your instructions. Went through it for about 100 times. Can´t find any mistake :(
Hi ! Thanks for this tutorial ! It's been multiple times i have the same problem, my solver does not keep my groups and so it cannot work because he doesn't find the groups boundary and ice, do you have any advices or solutions ? thanks !
Hi. In 19.5 fx license it's not behaving as it should. I think the solver has the same issue of not running over points and their assigned groups. Altough I see the val attr changing as the solver is running.
Hi Entagma. The file "snowflake_003.hipnc" did not run properly in Houdini Education 19. It did run properly in Houdini Education18.5. I was attempting to follow the tutorial. I ran into Error on the solver section. Ran the provided file in h19, got no point growth. Ran the provided file in h18.5, the file evaluated as demonstrated.
Hi Brian, thanks for letting us know - the issue was that H19 changed the evaluation of groups and thus one point wrangle ("else_set_receptive_to_zero" inside the solver) didn't run over the proper points. Reuploaded a .zip including a H19 version of the file. Thanks again & Cheers, Mo
If you just want to render it there convert to geometry and save it as obj or alembic(Houdine Engine and Commercial versions, Apprentice doesn't support it)/usd animation, if you want animation do file cashe first. I'm usually render in blender 2.93-3.0(Omniverse USD) with LuxCore, and I usually apply vdb remesh and copy to points if its particles for final mesh so it can be real polygonal geometry with perfect topology/smoothness. Like you still be having animation if its be geometry cashe, so its no matter where you make it but be aware of humongus size - up to 40-100+ gb if its very detailed.

I'd love more follow up videos on making the render that are in the thumbnails! They are always INCREDIBLE

Aaaaawesome!
Is there any way to do this in Blender using Geometry Nodes?
Awesome! Thank you so much!
Is there any way to create snowflake in Blender using Geometry Nodes?
I made using simulation nodes but many steps need to be built from scratch
I can't understand the step of weight diffusion, how are those values calculated?
May I have the texture of the snowflakes?
What about with blenders new geometry nodes?
No.
I need a reply as fast as humanly possibly please, ive done everyting right then i press play and nothing happens please help
look at the other comments and replies, they updated the stup so it works in H19 +
