  • Coming soon: The Matburn Podcast with yours truly, and my sometimes assistant co-host @keenancornelius. Episode 1 is currently underway. We’re discussing a little of this and a little of that. Whatever comes to mind, really. Competition stuff. UA-cam techniques that may or may not be bullshit. Cannabis. Keenan’s resistance to authority. And we break down some of the battles we’ve shared on the competition mats. And some brief talk about ADCC.

Im the purple he triangled at worlds 2010. I was in the best shape I had ever been and I saw a kid with a mouthpiece in the bullpen and thought I was going to destroy him. I had been training the Sao Paulo pass all summer and had been pretty successful with it...until I felt the cleanest triangle I had ever felt. Ever since then i've been like fuck Keenan!!

    Keenan
    TIPS
    1) use the same microphones with the talkers the same distances away from their mics.
(This is not a necessity but will help a beginner have consistent audio)
    2) Add something to absorb the sounds. Like furniture, pictures, plants, rugs, trophies, junk. OR get a product intended for this. (This will help with the echo and provide more optimal audio properties)
    3) on your computer, the mic(recording device) will have settings. Find the optimal sensitivity for the microphones. You want it to hear the person speaking normally but you also do not want to pick up other people talking. Some microphones record only in front 180 degrees, some are made to record 360 degrees.
    4) find a recording software that you like. It will help you adjust audio properties before, during and after recording.
OR hire someone to do all of this for you.
Either way thanks for all the free content, you give everyone amazing bjj advice so I don't mind giving some tech advice.
    Good luck!!

It still aids in the process of getting to sleep. Its also arguable you don't need that type of sleep, but I had awful insomnia until I started smoking recreationally as well. Its definitely beneficial.

20:58 Wow talk about hearing what you want to hear. Keenan just spent ages trying to explain what he hates and you replace that with what you hate.
Here is my take on what Keenan was saying. Be interesting if others agree.
It would be easy to walk down the street then punch a random unsuspecting stranger full in face as hard as you could. You don't have to be worried about being hurt (maybe your hand) and you'd never get caught, especially if did it at night or similar (you get to pick the target). So why would you not want to do this? Because you have empathy for other humans because you aren't a psychopath.
Competitions aren't that different. Sure your opponent has signed up but you don't know them (most of the time) and you have nothing against them (most of the time). But now you have to enter a state of mind where you would comfortably punch them in the face without empathy (sure no punches in BJJ but it's the same thing). Not everyone can just do this and most people have various techniques for coping with this.
    Well that's my take anyway.
