A field visit to Assam Agricultural University-ZRS, Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar.

On 24-12-2024, students and faculty of Sapatgram Bengali Higher Secondary School embarked on an educational field trip to the Assam Agricultural University's Zonal Research Station (ZRS) at Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to agricultural research, modern farming practices, and the latest innovations in agriculture.
Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by the staff and experts of ZRS. The day began with an introductory session, where students were briefed about the objectives and ongoing research projects of the station. They learned about the center's role in developing sustainable farming practices and promoting region-specific crop varieties to support local farmers.
The students were then guided through the experimental fields, where they observed research on various crops such as rice, maize, and oilseeds. The researchers demonstrated the use of advanced agricultural tools and techniques, including pest control methods, irrigation systems, and organic farming practices. The interactive discussions with scientists gave students valuable insights into the importance of agricultural research in addressing food security and climate change challenges.
In the greenhouse and nursery sections, the group observed the cultivation of high-yielding and disease-resistant plant varieties. Students were also introduced to soil testing procedures, which highlighted the significance of soil health in crop production.
