I love how this highlights the subdivisions that Dave Weckl moves between so fluidly. Just trying to play this at half speed as a snare drum solo would be a great lesson.
remember the times...... so much of us were totally overwhelmed by Weckl's talent, discipline and inspiration...... and immediately he got the first haters, calling him cold, soulless and unmusical, over-technical and a bad copy of the players before (Gadd, Colaiuta and Garibaldi).......well, retrospective he was the main influence of the late 80's and still one of the best players ever.......

The intimidating part of this transcription is that you could take any 2-4 bars of it from anywhere in the solo, and whatever segment you picked would be enough to keep me busy on permutations all winter just working on those 2-4 bars. Watching Mr. Weckl just keep producing stuff like that for six minutes straight out of pure imagination almost makes you want to just give up drums.
Man, what you do is a world heritage site, it is invaluable, I can´t believe that an hour ago i didn´t know about you and your amazing transcripción work...GOD BLESS YOU!!!

It's like watching a 'before-after' comparison. He went from having great technique here in these days to having superhuman technique now. Who could have believed at the time that in 35 years it would actually be almost incomparably better? Hats off to the transcriber.
