I have Nano S, but it's 'full' of apps (just BTC and ETH), and want to do a recovery with Nano X so I can restore the BTC/ETH assets on that device, and then start adding new wallets/apps so it's all in one place. So, this video is very helpful. My question is... once I do this, what happens to the assets on my Nano S? Will they be a clone for the BTC and ETH but not the other assets that I start adding to the Nano X? Hope this made sense. Thanks,
yep! Keep in mind that a Nano X or Nano S that's set up using the same recovery phrase will result in the exact same set of keys and addresses. Even if you add/remove/addBack certain apps, every time you do so the keys and addresses will be created using your master key (which is created from your recovery phrase) so the result will be the exact same every time. I'm pausing it now because at the start it seems to assume that we don't have LedgerLive downloaded yet, but I do and it's fully functional with accounts for two devices....Do I have to delete it and reinstall it in order to follow the recovery steps? Hey man, I'm getting ready to start staking my ADA and I just found your channel and I like your videos and info. I have seen other larger UA-camrs channels showing there pools and I would like to be in your pool as your a smaller channel trying to grow. But I see your pool has missed a few epochs according to your tool. So I'm just wondering if there is a reason that happened or if you just sometimes don't have the pool online and running at all times leading to that. As well as the most recent epoch had really low rewards even though your stake increased drastically. I don't have a ton of knowledge on the staking world but just hoping you can at least explain why these things are. I really hope to get a reply. Sorry for the long message just wanted to be as clear as possible with my reasoning and questions..either way I plan to use your pool to be of support just looking for information.
Good questions! Blocks are assigned probabilistically, so sometimes a pool will get more blocks than others. For smaller pools, this sometimes means 0 blocks in an epoch. This is the nature of “lumpy” returns vs consistent returns. We dig into this in our video Choosing the Right Stake Pool for you. If your Ledger device is still intact, then all you need to do is reinstall Ledger Live on your phone and pair it again with your Ledger via Bluetooth. Everything else should be good to go.

If you still have access to your ledger (but not the recovery phrase) I'd recommend moving the funds off your Ledger onto a temporary wallet, reset your ledger with a new recovery phrase, and then move your funds back to the new ledger address. Make sure you double-check your addresses back and forth.

As long as you purchase another BIP-39 compliant wallet (all Ledger wallets are), then you can restore using the same recovery phrase as shown in this video. good question. What you'll need to do is make a *new* Ledger (as shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/1trWdjxRI0A/v-deo.html) with a new recovery phrase. Then on a separate Ledger, restore your previous accounts (like shown in this video we're commenting on), and then transfer your funds from your old Ledger to your new one. A that point the new one is completely independent from the old, so you're good to go.

no worries! What we'd recommend is to try restoring your Ledger using both sets of recovery phrases just to be sure. Then for each one you can check the transactions and balances and see which line up with the one you were looking for. You can just do the restore process that we show in this video with recovery phrase A, check the balances/transactions, and after you can start over again with recovery phrase B. The restore process can be done as many times as you'd like, so there's no problem restoring from recovery phrase A, then recovery phrase B, and then recovery phrase A again.

absolutely. The Ledger uses what's called a Secure Element chip to hold the private keys, and that element is never exposed to the internet, even when signing transactions: www.ledger.com/academy/hardwarewallet/why-you-should-choose-ledger-hardware-wallets
Good question. The keys and addresses are derived from your recovery phrase, and are generated per-app. But as you’re implying, you need to remember which coins/apps you had. You can always just install different apps to double check, and uninstall if they’re at 0.00

I'm only asking this question because if with a small portion of your portfolio you are kind of messing around selling and buying a bunch of these small altcoins...it's going to be really hard to remember what small coins you might have had when the device crashed. no, you shouldn't have to. If you have your recovery phrase, you can just follow the steps in this video and restore your device. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, including Ledger support!

How did you have x2 BTC addresses on the same ledger live? Did you just add another BTC when in the selection to create the 2nd address?

absolutely. The Ledger uses what's called a Secure Element chip to hold the private keys, and that element is never exposed to the internet, even when signing transactions:

Good question. The keys and addresses are derived from your recovery phrase, and are generated per-app. But as you’re implying, you need to remember which coins/apps you had. You can always just install different apps to double check, and uninstall if they’re at 0.00

I'm only asking this question because if with a small portion of your portfolio you are kind of messing around selling and buying a bunch of these small altcoins...it's going to be really hard to remember what small coins you might have had when the device crashed. This honestly doesn't seem like the best backup solution in my opinion.

no, you shouldn't have to. If you have your recovery phrase, you can just follow the steps in this video and restore your device. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, including Ledger support!
